Shower of hail. 2.1c was snowing earlier but end of week could be more productive as high further out West than now. Still that too could change in the timeframe

We need subzero temps at night though. Snow has been lying here but is melting in places as the temp is hovering just above freezing.

I would prefer to be down around -1c to allow for a rise in the air temperature during showers.

1992, first week of April is a forgotten snow.

The front page of The Farmers Journal the following week had a pic of lambs in snow in Kildare.

The latest guidance shows nothing but cold weather for two weeks, just slight moderation between 2-3 day cold spells. Spring blooming will be "frozen in time" in more ways than one. Could be the GFS going off on one, we'll have to see if this trend locks in.

Running out of window space, hopefully can get the plants/seedlings outside soon. Appears to be a frost forming on the cars here in Galway.

That last shower there covered the ground, all is white now including the roads.

The Snow is now frozen on the decking, grass and roofs.

The pepperings do appear to increase a little overnight tomorrow night over the NW of Ireland on the latest UK Met hi res run:

but given the slight west of north flow, is it possible that you might be subject to the wrath of the ' Inishowen Peninsula shadow' effect (if such a thing were to exist that is"? )

Forecast prep chart from the UK Met hi res model from this time last night for this time tonight.

And this time tonight in the actual (radar image)

    Not bad at all.

The radar is beginning to liven up with some fairly heavy looking showers over NI, hopefully they make their way further south for the rest of us.

Here too. No windowledges even so an improvised table in the bathroom. I did leave a couple of trays of seeds as yet nor shoots outside deep in a cardboard box, lidded at night so may try the same with the peas that are going to get leggy else

The art of gardening is the art of improvising.

I have just been out to tour the " estate" and no snow anywhere. But that northerly wind would freeze the marrow in your bones.

Although I lingered to gaze at the magnificent sight of the Atlantic wind-tossed and wide as the eye can see.

Now if you add a comma to this part of the forecast ...

Some patchy light rain and drizzle in Connacht and Ulster will sink southeastwards later

(it's later this week not imminent)

Looking at netweather photos, looks like Antrim had more snow last night / this morning in the Eastern half of the island than say Derry in the west
Decent covering in the belfast Lisburn area down to Newry

Snowing fairly steadily in Co Sligo

A few loud showers out here but only the bitter COLD now. For some unknown reason I bought a sack of coal last week which I never do in April... It is being used!

Very bright and sunny in between deluges.

    Volatile weather.

I'm in Moira on the Antrim / Armagh boundary and can confirm we've had quite a few snow showers both yesterday and overnight. We have snow lying on grass, roofs, cars, etc - but nothing on the roads or paving. The surfaces are now too wet / warm, and the showers don't last long enough for a full covering to occur.

The snow itself was very dry and powdery yesterday. Big flakes that exploded to powder as they made contact with the ground. Wind then blow the white dust all over the street.

We had graupel all night and the temp rose each time a shower fell, so we were hovering between 0c and 1c.

From experience of northerlies you need the temp to about -1c to keep any snow on the ground during showers. It’ll not stick properly otherwise.

But yeah not sure why our showers turned from snow to graupel pretty disappointing.

Went for a drive it seems this area didn’t receive much in the way of snow at all. I suppose most of our showers being of graupel would keep the totals down.

This is a problem with these unstable flows they actually bring more hail type precipitation than snow due to the large updrafts.

So if there is another cold spell... can we please have snow showers rather than graupel? And actual subzero temps at night ta.

That would be the pesky Atlantic sea marine layer
Lot of land between Moira and the Atlantic for example to dry it out further East

No marine layer here, it was 0c at points. If you actually read about graupel it’s caused by updrafts.

Light snow flurries blowing about here near Arklow at the moment in an air temp of 6c ( ) ,a dewpoint of -4c and a wetbulb of 1.1c
    Rather them than me :D
    They're quite feathery flakes

This weekends cold spell is still on track. 850’s won’t be as cold though still acceptable for snow at -8c/-9c. The heights will be lower so potentially more precipitation.

Not bad! (Just as long as it doesn’t divert east in the next day or two)
