    I’m not sure if this info was shared elsewhere on the forum already but this thing probably deserves a thread. Full details are already up on the BMW.ie website:

    BMW design has been pretty poor this last decade or so. Looks like an X3. Does not look like a >€100k vehicle.

    And before anyone jumps down my neck, I have had more BMWs than all my other cars put together. BMW is my favourite car make of all time. I actually miss owning one.

    Yeah I would agree that this is the least impressive of their EV designs. The tech is interesting though. The more the merrier too.

    Infairness the x40 as starts at 80k. But cheeky advertising 11KW charging at home

    Could it be that the ad was aimed at the home market? Many homes in Germany have a 3ph connection, so can charge a car at 11kW or even 22kW (if the car allows)

    Personally I have to go to my favourite German retailer in Ireland to get some free 22kW juice while I do my weekly shop :p

    What's the issue, if it can do 11kW? It's not their fault if most homes can't do it. But some can, so why advertise a lesser spec than the car can actually do?

    It's not though. They're listing the car specs, not your home's specs. The car can charge at 11kW, can it not? If someone sells a supercar which can do 500km/h, are you going to accuse them of being misleading because the speed limit is 120?

    It’s misleading. Your analogy isn’t the same because people can Still go 500kmh.

    Looks lovely. Is this the "iX5" or "iX7" equivalent?
    They really need to sort the naming conventions for EVs - there's the i3, the ix3 which made sense.

    It seems to be X5 size from what I can see, naming is a bit weird alright.

    Have been doing some quick googling and yes it seems to be x5 sized but top of the range - like the X7 - for the "X" of evs if that makes sense.

    Also no tow rating so far, would expect it could tow.

    I love a good large SUV and love a good fast bimmer and this is both

    There's no more VRT grant, VRT is a flat 7%.
    Even with the 5k SEAI grant, we still pay 7% VRT and 23% VAT on EVs compared to almost 0 in most other EU countries. An incremental 30% tax on that segment of car adds up quickly!

    Would it matter. It's ambitiously ugly. Like a real yak looking thing. BMW really lost their essence of late. I don't see this Bentley psuedo rip off aging well either .

    Maybe, I'll judge it when I see it in the flesh. I'd rather the look of an X5 tho.

    In saying that, it's not Tesla ugly. IMO.

    It is though the low shoulder lines running down the length of the top of the doors the high ridge of the a pillar roof all the way back. It's actually looks like one of the Chinese collaborations from ten years ago where they would steal bits of other marques design and make a jam together.

    Given that I hate the weird kink lines, odd proportions, strange bulbous growths and hilarious large grills that have crept up on nearly every BMW in the current generation, I was fully expecting to click on something I hated. Strangely, I don't mind it. It's far, far better than the X7 I was parked next to yesterday.

    Good Lord that front end and grille is horrendous. Chrysler Ypsilon on steroids. I realise beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that but generally BMW's are decent looking

    Looks ugly af in pics, maybe it’ll be ok in real life. The grille makes it look all narrow and tall. It’s very uninteresting, was hoping for something like an evolution of the i3 design for this.

    I've been a BMW fanboi for many decades. I've owned about a dozen of their cars. My last one was a straight 6 petrol E60. When it came to the time to replace it, there was nothing out there, just sh1t cancer diesels. Had a look at other makes then like Mercedes and Jaguar, was the same. So I bought a brand new electric Hyundai.

    I'd like to get back into the fold, but there is nothing, not even in the pipeline, from BMW that even remotely interests me. Why can't they just do a fully electric 3 series or 5 series as a hatchback? Preferably without those idiotic grilles?

    BMW had a good start nearly a decade ago with electrification until that asshole Krüger blocked that division and caused it to pretty much dismantle. Now BMW are so far behind, they might never make it back :(

    A real model X competitor. If this gets here before the cybertruck I may end up with this instead.
    125kWh battery and 600km range with 200kW charging and ionity support?

    NOw if we could just stop getting outbid on houses and actually get moved any time soon I may order it! I see the dealers are taking €1k preorders already

    600km is 400 miles not 300.

    125kWh to do 600km is 209wh/km which is actually comparable to an MX

    Ah right, it's the 111.5kW battery that gets 300 miles. Not brilliant compared to other EVs but ok I guess for SUVs of this size. Was hoping to see a hatchback or an estate coming out from BMW rather than another luxury SUV - the market is saturated with them.

    This. I don't give a rats that SUVs are fashionable. I want a hatchback. Super low centre of gravity and all the practicality you need for a family of 5 + dog. I carried a complete large PV installation in my hatchback yesterday, including 12 oversized solar panels. And I didn't even need to use the frunk or any of the seats.

    Or indeed an estate but the missus dislikes their form factor.
