Need the link dude, thanks  But provisionally thats some effort at the high risk.

10 pts for the progression (once 10.00 validated)
    5 pts for 5/9
-6 pts for missing 3 splits (such is the high risk)
    Provisional Total 9 points

Edit: No real need for validation as you have 10 point on the table already. Goes to show that a simple progression is 10 points but the high risk is high risk!
I'd recommend folk try the -5 or so first and bank 10 points. The bonuses are not easy.

    High Risk
    10x exact 1 sec consecutive drops = + 10pts
+1 point for every 1 sec faster split achieved plus +1 for hitting all 9.
Remember its -2 points for a same/slower lap
    Should this read "9x exact 1 sec consecutive drops = + 10pts"?

Emmm yes you got 5, but lost all of your base progression score

10 pts for the progression (once 10.00 validated)
    5 pts for 5/9
    -5 pts for missing 10.00 (10.01)
-6 pts for missing 3 splits (such is the high risk)
    Actual Total 4 points

@fletch - you are right.. Kurt_G pulled me up on that already :)

10 Mile attempt in the bag. Wasn't feeling 100% today so skipped planned session and did this instead. Went for the 15 sec drop per mile, planning to start at 8:15 pace and work down to 6min miles and that actually felt like a bit of a stretch the way I was feeling.
It sort of gradually occurred to me as the run went on that I'd really have to put it in coming home. At the same time my lunch choice of spicy cous cous was rearing it's head and I was feeling under pressure from about 5 miles on. Figured I'd come too far not to finish the thing so got it done in the end.

Didn't get the 15 sec drops, was close on the majority. It's tough to get them bang on! If I had of tried for the last couple, it would have more than likely of been myself that would have been dropping into a ditch, so i backed off a little.

I'll let Shotgun Vorderman work his computational magic :)

    My reading is the following;

    8:10
    7:54 (-16)
    7:38 (-16)
    7:23 (-15)
    7:07 (-16)
    6:51 (-16)
    6:35 (-16)
    6:18 (-17)
    6:07 (-11)
    5:56 (-11)

Edit: Just looked at the OP by Shotgun. I actually stole the term 'Royal Flush' from Martin Yelling on Marathon Talk so I can't claim any credit for that :)

Attempted the challenge this evening. My first mistake was forgetting to change my lap alerts to each km instead of each mile... and then many mathematical errors were made resulting in a pace much faster than intended for the final few kms! I think I only get a paltry 3 points thanks to my stoopid watch adding 0.01 at the end, and a failed progression in km 6 :-/

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,208 ✭✭✭shotgunmcos

Healy 10 points, nicely done and close!

ReeReeG 3 points. In fairness you were 1 second and 0.01km off 10 points!

Had a go at the high risk. Splits were as follows, see activity here

    KM|Pace|Difference
    1|4:30|
    2|4:29|-1
    3|4:27|-2
    4|4:26|-1

    7|4:22|-1
    8|4:21|-1
    9|4:19|-2
    10|4:18|-1

    I think that's 6 points?

From Strava on the first split, I see 4:29, 4:29 for the overview or 4:30, 4:28 for the laps

So I count 5x -1 which would give you 15 points for this, the top score so far for March and the overall lead :)

Perhaps Garmin gives you that first split? Either way, hell of an effort!

That is strange...I see 4:30 - 4:29 for the overview on Strava. I'm currently downloading the Connect IQ SDK to see if I can develop a data field with millisecond lap pace accuracy

:D Leaving no stone unturned :D Here's what I see. An the overview show 4:29, 4:29. I did say I wouldn't do decimal places for my sanity :(

Apologies for being sticky about it, but if you show me the -1 for the first split, I'll pump it from 15 pts to 16 pts. Then I'll do a table update before I lose track

Lap Distance Time Pace Elev HR
    1 1.00 km 4:30 4:30 /km 8 m 133 bpm

I see the table you quoted above in the Laps of the activity alright (which would give me 15 points) but on the Overview, I see this (which would give me 16 points)

That is very strange...I didn't photoshop...I swear :D...go with the 15 points and I guess I'll go out and give it another shot...although I think I've got 5 points then in both the low and high risks so I'll have to give the medium a go for the brucey bonus :)

You have the +5pts in high but not low. You got 5/9 for +1. You need +5 bonus for each challenge to get the last bonus...

Med bonus you basically need to hit 5/5 -1s.

Each risk is challenging and the last bonus is super challenging :)

In the spirit of posting poor efforts too... went for the high risk option this morning.

    Didn’t go so well, lol.

    Drops were (-1.6, -0.7, -1.8, -0.9, +1.1, +1.2, -1.0, -1.1, -1.4, -0.8). Also forgot to stop the watch at end and ran 10.06.

So ended up with about -5 for the run. No need to check shotgun!

What’s interesting is those times above are from garmin. But Strava shows a bonkers 5th km split for me. It’s about 6 seconds quicker than any of my other splits.

Think that was my last effort with this challenge. My running pace is just not smooth enough to hit splits to 1 second resolution. And I need to see a physio about my left shoulder now.

I'm giving up on the high risk. going by watch I had 6 from 9, when it uploads its 4 , Strava has it at 3. At least i stopped the watch at exactly 10K this time

Must be the day that's in it but i went for the high risk one today too.
    Mile 1- 7:49
    Mile 2- 7:49, ah flip
    Mile 3- 7:47, ah here
    Mile 4- 7:46
    Mile 5- 7:45
    Mile 6- 7:44
    Mile 7- 7:43
    Mile 8- 7:42
Mile 9- 7:41 I'm thinking this is a pure doddle!
    Mile10- 7:42 FFS!

I was slightly too fast towards the end of the last mile so slowed way down and then forgot that my Garmin doesn't beep for a full 2 seconds after the lap goes from 0.99 to 1.00 and a mad 10 metre sprint couldn't save me!
Amd then to cap it all my car was just up the road a small bit so never thought of stopping tye watch and ended up doing 10.05 miles.

I won't even bother uploading a screenshot this time round, will have another go next Monday!

Strides :) It wasn't necessarily planned as a go at the challenge but I had 10k easy to do so why not. The strides at the end were a planned part of the run. I might have abandoned strides if I was on for a full high risk bonus.

Points on the board. Nice hilly route I wasn't within an asses roar of getting any bonus. I've done better progressions with less mental strain in the past. I was only going for the 10 second increments too.

    https://www.strava.com/activities/4956321827

    1. 5:43 - missed my 5:40 planned start
    2. 5:30 (-13) - okay I'll get into the swing of this. Steady now.
    3. 5:13 (-17) - NOOOOO! Need to reign in or I'll be into 10 k pace by the end.
    4. 5:02 (-11) - So close
    5. 4:53 (-9) - So close again
    6. 4:43 (-10) - Finally
    7. 4:29 (-14) - Useless. you got cocky kid.
    8. 4:23 (-6) - YES 10 seconds I thought. NO when I realised I was working off the wrong number when I got home.
9: 4:09 (-14) - It really is a nice day to be out
    10. 4:00 (-9) - Just make sure it's a progression at least.

PS - I now hate my watch. The lying b*****d.

Had another go at this last night.
Conditions were not great and did relatively better but still no bonus points.
On my Polar watch my progressions were -9,-7,-10,-12,-9,-11,-10,-9,-12.
Strava was a bit more generous with the roundings: -9,-8,-9,-12,-10,-10,-10,-10,-11 but still not enough.
That's as good as my watch accuracy will allow but I might still roll the dice once more next week as it fits well with my training at the moment. Keeps those Tuesday runs from being boring and sets me up for a few short hill reps at the end.

    Attempt #3 on Progression Tuesday.
Can't complain about the conditions this time.
Started out at recovery pace 5:23 /km and ended at tempo pace 3:50.
In between the increments were: -8,-9,-10,-10,-12,-12,-11,-11,-10 - only 3 on target so no bonus. Strava was no better. Did 12x hill sprints after again.
There are 2 more Tuesdays left in the month :D

Since I was last here, I moved my attempts to flat location with no trees, put on my glasses so I can read my watch...and switched to manual lap rather than auto. First 2 attempts with this approach failed as some laps ended up at 1.01 (and the following 0.99)and the odd time the watch skips a beat when I press the lap button.

The same happened today with the watch sluggish when I press lap button. Some of the times were very tight, but it all worked out today :) for 20pts?

Since I was last here, I moved my attempts to flat location with no trees, put on my glasses so I can read my watch...and switched to manual lap rather than auto. First 2 attempts with this approach failed as some laps ended up at 1.01 (and the following 0.99)and the odd time the watch skips a beat when I press the lap button.

The same happened today with the watch sluggish when I press lap button. Some of the times were very tight, but it all worked out today :) for 20pts?

This confuses me, I thought it was the rounded times? not the decimals...not that it made a difference to me, but I was rounding to nearest second on each split.:confused:
