In all the posts I've being reading I'm just wondering what age do posters deem it acceptable to say "as sure it's ok , they were old anyway, " with regards to Covid. Genuine question.

I'm sick of restrictions, I'm sick of groundhog day everyday . I'm worried about our future

BUT I understand why we have to have a lot of the restrictions that we have. It doesnt mean I like them.

Anyone who suggests that there are people who enjoy the restrictions are just taking the pi**.

I think it is quite pointless comparing ourselves to other countries at this stage because there are a lot of factors to take in not least of all our border with Norther Ireland

You're the one not producing evidence.

    The onus is on you.

It's you and others that come on boards day in day out with an agenda and nothing to back it up except feelings.

    Ask and ye shall receive!
    https://github.com/OxCGRT/covid-policy-tracker/raw/master/data/timeseries/OxCGRT_timeseries_all.xlsx

This is based on the Oxford data, but as you so correctly pointed out that was only an instantaneous measure of restrictions.

So now there is a time average of all restrictions. I cant attach the excel file as its too large for boards, so below is the final average, and if you wish to reproduce it you have all the info you need. What you will find is that the only countries with a higher average restriction rate since Feb 2020 are basket cases, and Italy/Portugal. The reason for this is because Italy and Portugal were both more proactive and put restrictions in place earlier than Ireland - so in the average stakes they will have a longer average in that time.

If you were to average each series based on the time restrictions first took place then I have no doubt that Ireland would rank highest in Europe.

Even today the language is wrong. We don't have a lockdown, we have restrictions.

No one is confined to their homes.

You cannot have visitors to your home.

Only essential workers should travel to work. You should work from home unless you are providing an essential service and need to be physically present.

    In addition:

You should only leave your home if you have a 'reasonable excuse' for doing so.

If that’s not a lockdown I’m not sure what is.

    Cases: 115,397,905
    Deaths: 2,562,643

That's the data that proves the point. It was China that allowed 5 million people fly out of Wuhan for the Lunar new year last year.

I'm sure it could have gotten out other ways but the measures were not in place and that's why we are in the situation we are today.

Then of course democracies struggle more to take the measures they should take.

Only strict lockdowns and isolation can stop a potentially deadly novel virus like this spreading.

It's not me saying it - it's suppose to be standard practice.

Sorry infections and death does not equal how we are more lax than other countires.

Surely you, as master of demanding data and facts, can prove you claims with data.

There seems to be a small but surprising number of people who do enjoy lockdowns. I don't think they are particularly representative but have seen posts on boards and facebook where people claim they were happy to have an escape from social obligations. In a thread on whether posters wanted to go to heaven after they died, a few posters claimed they would only want to go if they could be alone there for eternity. Some people do prefer prolonged aloneless that though that must be fairly rare.

However what's far more common is deference to the technostructure, which goes like this: The experts/Government/the European Central Bank are the people who understand these things. They have competence and no reason to not have good motives (notice the double negative, phrased that way on purpose since that is how the argument is ultimately understood) therefore we must do everything they say and there is no need for individual judgement (which is illegitimate and bound to be wrong). Scientists whose opinions, findings, conclusions go against official beliefs and conclusions in any way (as decided by officials, government and international media) are deluded or corrupt.

.............So we can stop with the nonsense of having Europe's "harshest" lockdown then because we don't according to that analysis.....

.......But Ireland managed to avoid that rollercoaster until Christmas by having what I deem a pretty lax regime to keep control compared to what we have now.

Get off the stage. You said you believe we had lax regime after saying it was nonsense that people believe having Europe's "harshest" lockdown.

Its pretty clear what you were getting at.

Or is it this your view "we are not more strict than other countries but not more lax than other countries"?

People will have their own interpretations of what is lax.

Given the nature of the problem it's been lax everywhere.

There has never been, outside of China and a handful of other areas, actual "lockdowns" - there have been restrictions to varying levels.

An actual lockdown I would consider something to be magnitudes greater than what we actually had prior to Christmas.

Even today the language is wrong. We don't have a lockdown, we have restrictions.

No one is confined to their homes.

Thankfully the voices recommending communist party of china lockdowns are still reasonably muted. Your posts are sound like a cranky old man shaking his walking stick at a cloud.

You have dismissed people's claims that we are more strict than other countries. Which must mean you think we are more lax than other countries.

Or is this a case of Schrodinger's opinion?

    Fresh delays this week afaik

"In a statement, the HSE said it was alerted by AstraZeneca late last week that two deliveries, one last week and one this week, totalling 25,000 vaccines, were deferred.

It said that this will have an impact on vaccines administered both this week and last week.

The HSE said it has been assured that the shortfall will be recovered during this month."

    https://www.rte.ie/news/coronavirus/2021/0303/1200589-coronavirus-vaccine/

I suppose the target was based on what they thought they were receiving

I do hope this isn't a regular thing though as we need to get up to 250,000 - 300,000 a week to achieve June targets

These were missed deliveries in the last week. This was widely reported. Do people only read headlines?

The 4th news item was the failure to meet vaccine target
