When this neverending **** show of a pandemic eventually exits stage left, and we are once more allowed to depart this soggy Isle of mediocrity. What will your first destination be?

For us in the boot house we can't wait to get back to Efteling in the Netherlands, magical place, like Disney but darker, more European and not as much of a ripoff.

Can't wait to hit up Berlin again, was there just before this **** all hit, only scratched the surface, need to see more.

Then the obligatory sun holiday to somewhere pleasant cheap and likely Spanish.

Edinburgh. It is a city I worked in and visited regularly. I don't want to do anything wild. Just visit my favourite restaurants/coffee shops/parks/even travel on the bus route that took me to work.

Amsterdam, this Covid dry spell is a pain.

Maybe fly to Spain then for some sun.

Second Berlin. An absolute fantastic city I never get tired of. Usually visit each summer. Amazing nightlife as is Amsterdam. I may even decide to move over to Berlin or Amsterdam to look for employment.

Interrailling Europe again is also on my list. Would love to see Serbia, Croatia and Italy by train.

    I've got tickets to:

    * a four day festival outside Amsterdam that is nominally the end of June but will be rescheduled imminently to the end of summer
    * a two day festival in Utrecht that is scheduled for September
    * a gig in Manchester that is scheduled for September

Whichever of those I can actually go to will probably be the first trip away.

    Bray. I'm not even joking.

    Town, and real shops.
Then family, to hug my loved ones.
    Then pub and restaurant
    Manicure, pedicure
    HAIRCUT!!
Then travel in Ireland, camping with friends, parties in houses -

Sun holiday, sure; but not as essential for happiness as mingling with my friends and offsprings.

Would love to move to Berlin but unfortunately am in non-software engineering and it's weirdly the one spot in Germany where it's a bad fit. Netherlands is a definite runner though, liked the look of that a lot.

There's a few festivals in Europe posting serious line ups for this year Rock am Ring, Nova Rock etc. I think it's a bit fanciful tbh. Still have last years tickets for Green Day in the RDS and that won't be happening this summer either. Who knows, maybe our more pragmatic cousins in Europe will move on with things a bit quicker.

Back to Ireland (and UK) to visit family. Almost a year and a half since I've seen my parents, sister and the rest of the family.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 113 ✭✭ByTheSea2019

I'm not going to book anything too expensive to start with while we're still coming out of this thing and it's changeable, but there is a coastal path around the Wales and if tourists were allowed I'd like to go cycling around it later in the year. Maybe a few days in Cardiff tool.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,819 ✭✭✭✭Thelonious Monk

    Bray. I'm not even joking.

I was gonna say Bray. I'd love to just take the dart out there and hike up the hill and go to the Harbour Bar. With covid restrictions, you can understand why these places were holiday destinations before we were a rich country and cheap airlines.

Whereabouts in Wales is it? I wouldn't mind cycling or walking it myself.

Glasgow. I have only been able to visit my dad's side of the family one time since he died - I was planning to visit a hell of a lot more often until this all happened. I also want to visit a buddy of mine up in Galway. A relaxing pint in a local pub, having pointless conversations about pointless shyte -- that's all I want.

Nearly the whole way around. 870 miles. You could do whatever part you want.

Straight to the airport and on to see my family. I am going to hug every one of them for hours - especially my dad and gran, whether they want me to or not.

I want my baby to meet the other side of his family, I'm sure he thinks they live in the screen or phone. On the way to the airport I might drop by the pool and swim until I can't anymore.

Then I want to meet up with friends I haven't seen and miss terribly.

Then I want us to have the honeymoon we didn't have, and I'm happy to go almost anywhere for that.

Then I want to have an overnight away by myself, as I haven't been alone for a single moment for almost a year now and I miss me.

I don't care where I go, I just want to know I can go anywhere.

If I could go soon it would be Malta. If we get a spell of good weather here first im very tempted by Greenland

Think when all this is over I’ll book us in and treat myself to a stiff one at the Snowdonia bar at Butlins; Pwllheli.

Well I am abroad (Switzerland) for thirty years... but due to health, have been isolating for the best part of a year.

At this stage I’d settle for being able to walk the 100m or so to the local restaurant of an evening, order a coffee or a beer and play a game of cards with the neighbors as we used to do.

Just go if you haven't already, meet outside or sit in your car with the heating on and socially distance.

    Nothing is worth that.

Vice Versa obviously that they could do the same with you.

I know restrictions are there for a reason but nothing is worth that.

What's stopping you? There's zero enforcement on public transport in the Dublin area.

I will do a grand tour of central Europe.

I would say not being the cause of someone’s sickness or death within sight of finishing line is worth it.

Imagine having to explain to one of the grandkids that grandma/grandpa died because you could not wait a couple of months until they had the vaccine!

Vietnam. Absolute mayhem and fun - for a few days of cheap drink and eye-opening havoc, before another few days luxuriating at one of those beach resorts where you just kick back and relax totally. A culture-vulture rail trip around Italy either. Like many here though, a pint in my local would be bliss.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,636 ✭✭✭FishOnABike

To the beach the first day there's any half decent swell. It's just teasing me at the moment. I'm less than 5km from the coast but more than 5km from the nearest surf spot. So near and yet so far.

Before Covid I had trips to Tirana, Marseilles, Glasgow and a Caribbean (cruise) booked so I'll hopefully pick up where I left off when it's safe to do so. I only took 4 days annual leave last year and I have no plans to use any more before the leave year rolls over again so I will have a whole load of it to use for when I can actually go somewhere again. Would love to head to Japan and Colorado as well.

They would seem to be very different places. At least to me. You must be a very interesting traveler. :)
