In theory if these are publicly accessible spots then breaking the law also. I don't think it was a waste of time reporting to Tesla

I'm heading from Co Louth to Waterford city next week.

I'd usually stop at Ballacolla on my runs to Cork but don't propose leaving the M9 to do that.

Can anyone recommend a stop somewhere? The Ionity at Kill is too close to home; the Circle K at Junction 5 in Carlow seems to be the best bet?

    All replies/suggestions gratefully received!

Paulstown, Circle K at Tinryland, Amber Service station on the way into Waterford if you're heading for Ferrybank area.

Knocktopher is close to the motorway too. Closer to it than Inver (which I assume is what you mean when you say Amber). Though none of these are Superchargers.

Thanks all; I'd prefer a supercharger to make the stop as quick as possible.

Plugshare suggests that J5 is the only one except Ionity at Kill?

Noticed the Charleville Park Hotel included on the latest list of hubs from ZEVI

Considering Tesla like to use hotels for their supercharger sites I think there's a chance of one here, I'll be keeping a close eye

I've had an ongoing query with Tesla as my Tesla credits were not used in Springfield, they have confirmed in writing that credits issued in Euros will only be applicable to Euro charges so as SF up the North my Tesla credits do not apply.

This will also impact anyone looking for Tesla credits to be used against Tesla Belfast service/repair costs etc.

Bit of a kick this one, the previous SuC awards work everywhere regardless of CCY/location

Anyone every been it hit a Supercharger Congestion Fee?

    https://www.tesla.com/en_ie/support/charging/supercharger/fees

At certain Supercharging locations, congestion fees will replace idle fees. Congestion fee is a fee you pay only when a Supercharger site is busy and one of the following applies:

    - Your vehicle’s battery is already at or above the congestion fee level of 80% battery charge; or

    - Your charging session has ended

The congestion fee encourages drivers to charge only as much as is needed for their trip, rather than all the way to 100%. This increases the availability of Superchargers so that everyone has access when they need it.

I would imagine Sandyford is probably the most likely site for this to occur and over in the UK or the mainland.

Never, it's punishing so well intended to free up SUC once you're done, I've never overstayed in over 5 yrs and that included a S with free SuC where I'd just leave it there for ages, now I rarely spend more than 10minutes with improved charge rate

I'm more interested though if this applies to any sites in Ireland, or if its idle fees alone, hence why I was wondering if any had been hit congestion fees as opposed to idle fees.

I rarely see any of the SuC sites in Ireland completely full, with the exception of Sandyford and Mahon Point as I never visit these two.

I would charge above 80% every couple of weeks at a SUC, but never been hit or warned (AFAIK) of such fees, only idle fees.

Oh, misread, I've charged above 80% from time to time as I needed to and never hit with a congestion fee.

Enfield has been full in recent stops there by me

Never even knew this was a thing only for coming here. Seems Mahon Point is the only location that applies it in Ireland, all the others have the old idle fees. I wonder does this work on non-tesla vehicles, can the superchargers read the battery level of say a Kia or VW and charge accordingly?

The fee is 50c per minute at busy times but it's waived if you move within 5 minutes so you can charge to 80% plus 5 minutes which would get me to about 87% in my RWD car

I can see SoC in Tesla app of my non-Tesla vehicle when charging on SuC.

Not fined but used up my free pass. Next time I'll be fined.

Although I had the charge limit set to 100% Tesla, dropped it, I think to 80%, because it was a busy site. Although 4 out of 8 stalls were free at the time we arrived. I didn't see the warning notifications and it was only when I got back to the car that I saw that we had "overstayed" by 10 minutes. By then there were only us and 1 other car there.

Ah yep - didnt think to look in the app. Pretty clearly marked.

They give a free pass? To be fair, including the 5 minutes grace period, those 10 minutes would only have cost you an extra €2.50 - so not too bad. A bit odd that they do it when the site is half full though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,520 ✭✭✭wassie

Yeah - but normally you can just push the charge limit back up past 80% and you'll be fine.

Its sort of why I asked my question because a site that is designated as having Congestion Fees instead of Idle Fees, like Cork, I wouldnt be able to do that.

Taking the car to France this week and just planning our route to attend the opening Ligue 1 in Rennes. Just so happens theres a SuC at the carpark.

Stunned by the pricing. Cheaper than charging at home charging price during the day

You need to change your energy supplier if you are paying 20c per kw off-peak.

Thanks - fixed my post there. One too many sherbets last night I'd say!

One of the few benefits of Nuclear energy but makes for cheap motoring. EV’s don’t seem too popular in France though. They seem to still have a predominantly diesel fleet. In recent years E85 has also got very popular as it’s very cheap over there for some reason.

It's a form of support for French farmers producing bioethanol from maize etc.

The French are quite patriotic with their vehicle purchases and traditionally Peugot, Renault and Citroen have excelled at making small cars and failed miserably at making large cars. Until recently, small EVs were a rarity so there wasn't much choice for French customers. Teslas would have been the most common EV I'd have seen while driving around France. I would expect with the R5 and similar that there will be an increase in French EV ownership.

They used to be patriotic, not so much anymore from what I’ve seen there over there in recent years.
