Interesting, suddenly wind spiking here too (about 5km from there) in Loughlinstown.
Worst morning in quite some time here.

Have a weather station?, why not join the Ireland Weather Network - http://irelandweather.eu/

May has been or as at least seemed a lot worse weather wise than April. So far no nice days at all and this morning is beyond a joke. Beautiful sunsets in the west there last night unfortunately nothing like that here in the south east just more dull dark cool evenings.

Same here in Firhouse Dublin 24 wind has really picked up now and is roaring like it's November! Teeming rain.
    Miserable.
So fed up with constant showers, rain, cool temperatures and generally below par weather.
When oh when will we get some warmth?
I'm not even looking for heat, just an end to wind and rain that lasts for more than a few days......

The wind started just after 06.30. Followed by driving rain. It feels like we've by passed Spring and Summer and went straight to Autumn.

Met Eireann forecasting the strongest of the winds to pass around South Wicklow in the next 2 hours or so away from the coast, and looking at the Windy website it seems that most models are in agreement except for ECM which is out on its own with gusts forecast up to 92kmph and has winds strengthening right up to mid-afternoon. Regardless, it's certainly looking like a windy 18 hours or so.

Strong winds and heavy rain this morning in cork city, sounds loud due to the leaves on the trees. This May has just been awful.

This ME farming report may explain why some of had a good May

Over the past 7 days, cumulative rainfall amounts were quite variable owing to heavy and thundery showers. Amounts were well above average over Munster, south Connacht, south Leinster and north Ulster, with rainfall as a percentage of average coming in at between 120% to 273%, equating to between 19.4 mm in Gurteen and 38.8 mm at Cork Airport. It was driest in the north midlands, north Leinster and north Connacht, generally 65 to 105% of the average, equating to between 8.7 mm at Dublin airport and 16.5mm in Mullingar.

    Bad week ahead.

Unsettled conditions will prevail through much of the coming week, with heavy rain tonight and tomorrow, Thursday, and with showery conditions following, all areas are expected to receive above average rainfall amounts with 2 to 4 times the normal amounts.

MT's forecast is disappointing. A few days of respite next week and then back to the unsettled sh1te. Really hope a washout summer pattern is not in place, with things opening up we need some decent weather!

Not getting a good feeling about our prospects for this upcoming summer.

Things can and often do change quickly though in the world of weather so we live in hope!

Outdoor meeting up is relatively risk free as long as people not crammed together.

You will have to put on your big boy pants and get back to living at some stage.

no its a bad thing - bad weather will entice people to congregate indoors which is where the problem lies - outdoors has a lot less risk

Not to drag it off the topic of weather but has a point if delivered a bit harshly.

Vaccines are a gamechanger and life has to move on.

Will be heading to a beer garden as soon as they are opening as long as the weather plays ball.

Any chance we could talk about weather?

Just misting/drizzling away here in cork city with a decent gusty wind there - a fine Jan.... ah May day

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,754 ✭✭✭✭Thelonious Monk

From about now onward is the only time I really start to get p*ssed off with our weather here in Ireland, the winter we just had was grand, Spring nice at times, and now this unsettled rubbish. It's just because our window for proper summer weather is so small that it's bloody heartbreaking when we get rubbish like today and what is forecast!

I was wondering why half of the posts on this page where hidden...........anyway just over 10mm of rain in Castlebar so far today, no heavy downpours so far but steady and persistent showers, near 100% humidity making it slightly oppressive outside.
