Finally getting the finger out with the ‘Turkish iTunes method’ has made me also sort out access to things like HBO, iPlayer, ITVx etc. on an Apple TV device. It’s been long overdue!

I'm an an android user, never had an apple phone or tablet. I picked one up for €40 off adverts a few weeks ago, followed the method linked above and it was very straightforward. Got the iTunes card from Turgame.

With android devices you can find APKs for apps that are not available in your country. So it's relatively easy to install HBO or BBC iPlayer or whatever. On apple devices you can't sideload apps, but if you set your apple account location to the UK as an example you can then download the UK-specific apps such as iPlayer or ITVx. Once installed you can use the free ones anyway just by using a VPN, for paid ones you'll obviously need an account.

The benefit of this way for Apple is that the apps should update when needed (whereas on Android if I sideload an app and that version later becomes deprecated I need to find a newer version of that app and sideload that).

Sick of being cancelled by Poland every month after signing up again with vpn. so I'm biting the bullet and opening a polish bank account later during the week when I'm there. Just need to buy a polish sim first so I have a number to receive bank texts.

Hi folks ive spent a fair bit of time trying to set up the Turkey Apple route and wanted to checkout with Paypal for the Itunes card but having issues topping up my Paypal account to cover the amount and not really happy using my main credit card as the payment on the G2A website,am i been over cautious?

Have tried various ways and logged in to most of the setup on the ipad so the Paypal account and all is linked through that, bank declines transaction through Paypal so topup was the way i thought!

I'm sure they are getting suspicious now with the few cancelled transactions 😮

Revolut disposable card is probably the safest method, that's what I used.

Why are you so paranoid about using CC on G2A? They use Zen for as their payment gateway.

Question wasn't directed at me, but I installed smart tube (I have the Turkish ITunes set up) just for curiosity on my android TV, and have to say I was very impressed.

I subscribe to a lot of travel vloggers (bald/bankrupt, Kurt Kaz, Small brained American etc) and annoyingly a lot of them are now running with embedded sponsorship crap.

Smart tube very intelligently skips the ad completely.

If I get booted from Turkey, I'll not be signing up again with YouTube premium, and instead will be going down the "bootleg" route, and if YouTube makes the pricing more realistic and affordable here again, I'll return.

I hope any Google/YouTube agents snooping on these threads read this too 👀

Is there anyone on Boards selling a spot on a YouTube family?

Also interested in this if someone is doing it, thanks.

I've been using it for the last day or two, really impressed with it as well, Sponsorblock is brilliant.

I'm running it on an Android box connected to the TV and it's a lot faster/stable than the Youtube app on the SmartTV.

Great to not have the worry that your subscription to premium could end at any time.

It'll pay for itself as well in time and I can use the box for streaming as well, once I find a good IPTV provider.

    Hey folks,

I setup on India and used a friend of mines credit card from India and I still got kicked out a month later! I have appealed, saying I live there 6 months of the year etc… but no reply and still kicked off premium. I bet you need to use VPN for the first month then it'll be ok. Next up seems to be the iTunes card via Turkey from the posts above. Will give it a go.

Is there any way of getting such software on a Firestick?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,268 ✭✭✭jackofalltrades

Yeah looks like it's supported. From https://github.com/yuliskov/SmartTube

    • supported: all Android TVs and TV boxes (incl. FireTV, NVIDIA Shield & Google Chromecast with Google TV), even older ones with Android 4.3 (Kitkat).

Download the install from APKmirror and try sideloading it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,786 ✭✭✭Nollog

I use it on mine, it's designed for the boxes.

I also use the bridge https://github.com/yuliskov/SmartTube?tab=readme-ov-file#voice-search

So i can just say open youtube and it opens, search doesn't work like the original app when open, i haven't tried saying youtube before my search query, as it says there tho, original app didn't need that.

Theres newpipe or something and revanced for android phones etc.

Interesting, I was about to sign up to millennium bank in Poland tomorrow, If that's the case then it's not worth the hassle.
