I think Dulpit said it best:

Booo. Charge €52 or be up front that you're taking money for doing nothing.

    Not the boards way.

To repeat. Boo. Be open that you are charging so you get it for free for essentially zero effort.

Got kicked out of Poland. Tried all cheaper European locations and most others as well. All required a card from the country.

Ill give up today and try again tomorrow. Otherwise I'll be investing in an iPhone.

Was kicked out of Poland too. Israel worked with VPN and same revolut card I'd used for Poland. Works out a few euro cheaper for family sub, about €11.50.

Love the fact my VPN and Premium YT give loads of free movies when I’m on U.S VPN soil.

Anyone ever come across this scenario.Today I decided to top up my Netflix Premium account with a Turkish 2000TL gift card from G2A. The account is already up and running but payment was due in two weeks. When I put in the gift card number I got a popup saying you have been credited with 1000TL and it should bring you to next October. ? I'm reluctant to contact Netflix chat as they might twig real location and cancel the sub. I tried the gift card code again but it flags has been previously ussed. What would be the best way to proceed. I would be interested if this had happened to any one previously. Thanks

Tried Israel just now. Used my virtual Revolut card. No go. Tried PayPal. No go. Tried my physical Revolut card. No go. Kept getting:

Transaction declined. This purchase requires a payment method from your billing country. Doesn't give me the option to give an Israeli address, just automatically sets it to Israel. Bummer.

79.99 Turkish lira taken from my Revolut backup card, the feckers who supplied the virtual credit card have snaffled my money, fcukin' robbers 🤬 at least the backup worked which is good.

Ah crap. I just used a virtual visa, not disposable.

I close the YT app. Turn on VPN then open incognito browser or Firefox focus, something that won't be logged in to Google account anyway. Then to go YT website pick premium, makes me log in and it worked fine.

It looked like I was going to have to add an address but it just had "Israel" there in blue text.

You'd imagine Google will find it easier and easier to shut down 'non-local' YT subscriptions. If people just move their account from one country to another using the same email address it can be easily traced on their side. Just depends on if they feel l it's worth the effort.

I got an email this morning saying they had trouble processing my payment, premium is working perfectly showing due next month. I'm assuming the email relates to the virtual Turkish credit card I bought through paysultan. Feckers.. I feel like Basil Fawlty when he was conned by lord Melbury when I think about it😆😆

Has anyone tried using a turkey YouTube gift card? Is that possible?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,458 ✭✭✭✭Kolido

You mean Google play credit? Not sure if that works as I havent seen it mentioned anywhere

You can buy cheap disposible youtube premium individual accounts online, it would mean you're using a new account though, not your own

Reported Youtube family price rise in Aus & France

YouTube Premium has raised the price of its Family Plan in Australia. The monthly cost has gone up from AUD 33 to AUD 40, a 21% increase. In U.S. dollars, that’s about $26 per month. This change starts with users’ next billing cycle..

It’s not just Australia seeing higher prices. The Family Plan price in France has also increased, now costing €29.99 a month, up from €25.99. This suggests that more countries might see similar increases soon.

Re price of joining an Irish family account. After losing my Argentina account I joined a family group with a boardsie a few months ago through an non Irish account for a €35. Let me share my experience which is no reflection on the lad who I signed up with. I just checked and over a month we had 39 emails due to various problems where it stopped working after a week then worked, then stopped working. Eventually I was given a full refund BUT I was locked out of joining another family for 12 months as you are only allowed change families once a year byYT. I then joined Poland at 6.70 euro but after a couple of months got kicked out like so many other people. I then posted I was looking to join an Irish family account with a new email address (cause my 'real' address is blocked from moving) and had no replies. After a week or so I decided to set up my own family account with 3 family/friends, one boardsie all at 60 euro. Trust me When I see all the issues people are having I would have happily paid 60 euro if another person had offered no problem. I was paying 80 for the Polish single account.

Stay on your own and do the Turkish ITunes method. I got lucky that my getflix VPN wasn't recognised by YouTube when I used the Turkish virtual credit card method, that method is now shut down.

I think you're quite entitled to ask for a bit extra . Very few people seem to want to take on the so called hassle of starting a family account either here or on the Netflix thread . Lots of posts of people looking very few people offering.

If people don't like it then don't pay for it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,966 ✭✭✭✭dulpit

It's no extra effort, and at least if you're asking for essentially a free account be upfront and state as much.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,387 ✭✭✭NATLOR

No extra effort but the majority of people couldn't be arsed to do it but more than happy to ask for a place .

The maths aren't difficult to.work out that he is a few quid over

Id happily pay €5 a month if I was too lazy to source my own accounts

If anyone is looking for fill a family slot let me know. Thanks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 254 ✭✭Setanter

Well if its so little effort and you care so much about the Boards, why aren't you setting up groups on demand?

Nothing wrong with people presenting others an opportunity, up to them whether it's good value or not, no body forcing them.

Begrudgery alive and well on here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,966 ✭✭✭✭dulpit

I did? I set up a group with 4 other people, I have 2 slots they have 1 each. I charged €52 for this as that's how much it costs.

My point (my repeated point) is that on boards, FOR YEARS, there was an ethos that people would share benefits, share bargains and would not shill for others or profiteer. It's sad that this has changed.

I fail to see the begrudgery at work here?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,458 ✭✭✭✭Kolido

If you are looking to have a YT premium account for yourself, then not much extra work involved setting up a family sub, sure you have to wait to fill the slots and collect the money.

Not sure how it would work if someone was setting up multiple family accounts to help out folk here. What do you do with the multiple manager accounts, you would only require one for yourself. In that case the other 5 members would pay for the manager account as it would not be used or would there be some way of using it for someone else?

Just wondering how it works if someone is running multiple family account, someone here was doing that before I think, haven't seen them here in awhile, there was some hostility against them afair
