Looking at Israel and how successful there reopenings have been it is encouraging. We will be watching our neighbours over in the UK and seeing how they do with the reopenings region by region

Regarding here there might come a time when we will be forced to reopen and live alongside this virus like we do with many others, successful UK reopenings could put massive pressure on our Government. A nervy thing is the problems in the HSE and that could be a factor.

I don't think covid will end but think it will join the flu and other illnesses that cant be eliminated

I think what's happening in Israel is terrible. They have a two-tiered society there in that unless a person takes the vaccine they can't take part in normal life. I hope there are countries that don't go down the vaccine passport road. It'll be interesting to see how the UK's reopening goes.

The point is that if it's 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th generation vaccines then the other poster is right to be concerned that there's no end in sight.

And then we have the Prime Minister of Israel talking about vaccination every 6 months: https://twitter.com/factrealist2/status/1377204298740813826

They were referring to continuous lockdowns but this sounds like we might have a regular vaccine like a flu jab, which will keep us out of lockdown. There might not be any other alternative or do you think there is?

The idea of being vaccinated every 6 months is a bit scary. A yearly voluntary vaccine for the elderly and the vulnerable would be okay.

We were told that vaccine meant normal life resuming. Now they're talking about 2nd and 3rd generation vaccines. The goalposts keep moving.

    Getting vaccinated is normal

The goalposts are always going to move in an unfolding situation and what we know now could change in a few months time, that's just the nature of things. We're doing first round vaccinations now and if we find that new variants keep arising, with some resistant to the vaccine, we'll have no other choice but to vaccinate against that, if it takes hold again. 6 months is a bit much, I've confidence that we'll develop a capture all for the virus as a whole eventually. You have to remember we've only had a year to develop this one and research is still ongoing. Continuous lockdowns will never become a thing though, whether this virus is here to stay or not.
