Certain yellow card; absolutely no doubt. Could very easily have been red. Very easily.

Sullivan was committed to perfectly legal tackle, Lowry dips very low at last second and they clash, it’s caused by Lowry dipping.

    Can't be red

    Lowry ducked

Sullivan went low with genuine tackle attempt

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,093 ✭✭✭Brewster

Doesn’t matter lads. Gilroy got a month ban, having originally got a yellow last week. Tackler has to go lower.

    Brilliant from Marmion

The framework makes it clear its not red

    Sullivan went low, to tackle

    Lowry ducked down.

There is two points of mitigation in the framework which make it not a red

Gilroy got banned for a shoulder to the head with no attempt to wrap

Lowry is 5’7 - he was gonna get tackled low chest if he doesn’t dip. That’s as low as can be reasonably expected. Absolutely not a yellow.

    Brilliant passage of play

Look, I think on balance, it was a yellow. Red would have been harsh. I accept this. But you simply can’t risk those sort of tackles anymore. He should have have been tackling a few feet off the ground to make actually sure he was safe. There was serious serious force in the hit.

Two decent conversions from Doak to be fair.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,093 ✭✭✭Brewster

Needed that to get back into it.

Vermeulen throws a couple of punches (none connected properly or Wootton would be unconscious probably) and penalty stays with Ulster. Joy Neville is a poor tmo

Super speed by Robert Baloucoune to be fair. Good try.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 887 ✭✭✭Zeugnis

Yep very poor officiating, was Vermeulen getting away with that in the top 14. In fairness, i think Sullivan should have gotten a red as well, so poor officiating letting both sides off the hook.

Anyway, shame that after all connacht's good defensive work in the last twenty minutes, we get burnt by Bobby Baloucoune, he is a joy to behold though.

Disappointing to conceed right at the end again....

Wooton seemed to come flying in but got nowhere near the ball or the man but all season we seem to get caught narrow quite a lot with how we jam in in defense.

Thought there was at least enough in it to turn over the penalty in our favour.

Going back to the yellow I thought it was fair enough by the rules but was very surprised Lowry didn't ha e to go for a HIA aswell. I think same was the case when zebo hit him and was red carded a few weeks back.

Wooten would have woken up next week had that connected. Very surprised he just got away scot free. In fact Ulster got the penalty.

That can’t be a red. Lowry causes the incident he’s 5’7 and he dips at the last second to go probably well under five feet. Sullivan is going to make a perfectly legal low-mid chest tackle and Lowrys actions cause a clash. It shouldn’t even be a yellow for me but no chance it’s a red.

Definitely won’t be a popular view but if Joy Neville was James Neville wouldn’t be reffing at this level. Just repeatedly makes very poor mistakes.

You can’t blame Lowry. The tackling player needs to be aware of the player he is tackling. If we are going to be serious about player welfare, then players simply need to be more aware of the situation. On balance, Lowry is going down and this is mitigating. On reflection, yellow card is the right decision. There is so much force in the hit. Connacht player didn’t return such was force of hit. Joy Neville is a fine ref, she has been involved in many games and proven herself.

Cracking turnover and finish. Super final pass.

    Ridiculously embarrassing dive there

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,274 ✭✭✭ClanofLams

Earlier you were insistent it was a red now admit it’s a yellow.

I agree we need to be serious about player welfare but things need to be taken in context. Lowry is 5’7 officially and those stats are generally inflated in my experience for all players so he’s prob not even that.

When Sullivan commits to the tackle he’s committing to a tackle four and a half feet off the ground, perfectly legal perfectly low. Lowry dips a head suddenly at the very last second and there is a clash. There is no serious argument for that to be a red otherwise people will just have to stand off Lowry or maybe dive at his ankles and you might be safe. Rugby incident and not a yellow as the BBC Ulster co commentator said.

As for Neville I have seen many of her games and she’s a poor ref. She’s only at reffing five years, she was promoted up far too quickly.

Doak is such a joy to watch. Between himself, Lowry and McIlroy (not forgetting Hume obv) they'll be serious players for the next decade.

Prendergast is everywhere, getting through absolute mountain of work.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,093 ✭✭✭Brewster

Look, to be fair, I said it could have easily been a red on first viewing, having considered it, I changed my mind and agreed on yellow. I’m watching on premier, and Ferris and Keatley both said yellow.

Doak looks like he has the tools to get by Casey. He has a decent chance of going on summer tour to NZ if he has a big end to season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,365 ✭✭✭SqueakyKneecap

Lovely defending on the 5 for the last 20 in fairness. Marmion has been really good defensively all night.

God bless em but McGrath and Tuimauga are not up to this level.

There goes Connacht's Heineken cup qualification for next year.

Cardiff will surely beat them to 8th with 2 games at hand
