A bean bag round to the back was hardly going to stop a fully grown man wielding a large knife and lunging at a Garda was it? Especially that the use of pepper spray and tasers hadn't already discouraged him from continuing his rampage.

It was a straight forward situation, George had to be immediately neutralised with live ammunition to prevent the maiming or death of a Garda doing their job. Once George was attempting to enter a house he was barred from while wielding a large knife all bets were off, it was time to preserve the safety of potential innocent victims.

Less of the amateur ballistics on this tragic situation would be helpful. A shotgun loaded with buckshot could have hit anyone including George, and beanbags were highly unlikely to stop him. The ASU are trained for this, aim for the torso and shoot until the threat to innocent life is over. I pity the poor Guards who were put in the position of having to make that decision. They had to take one life to save other(s).

I believe that the Armed Gardai have a duty of care to protect the unarmed garda in this situation. One shot had no affect in this unfortunate situation on this young man and i find this hard to fathom as I am a Registered Firearms Safety Officer and how a 9mm bullet did not put this guy on his back is something i dont understand .End

Theres definitely an undertone of threat about when they find the Garda, this was undoubtedly influenced by the BLM rallies that had happened earlier that year.

Too many people in positions of supposed moral responsibility jumped to stating that racism was the cause of George Nkencho's death and stirred up this type of nonsense.

We acquiesed to lock down mandates being abandoned to allow BLM protects to take place in Dublin in summer 2020, the message there was that Ireland had exactly the same problems as the United States in relation to institutionalised racism in every level of society. Not allowing this patently false narrative to be pushed by crowds of people in the middle of a pandemic where people were being confined to their homes would have caused offence, and we can't cause offence, even when people are offending this country by stating it is institutionally racist when it isn't.

The reaction to the George Nkencho case was always going to follow this pattern, crying racism, holding rallies and protests, intimidating people, threatening violence and ignoring facts were the trendy responses and they all played out as anyone could have predicted.

The idea that it doesn't work outside is nonsense.

Have a look at some of the videos from the other night when the brave patriots started screaming and running when they got a whiff of it and not a direct hit to the eyes.

The family of George Nkencho have initiated High Court personal injury actions against the Garda Commissioner, Minister for Justice Helen McEntee and the Irish State arising from the 27-year-old's death in 2020.

Actions by Gloria Nkencho and her younger brother Victor have been lodged, solicitor David Harrington of Harringtons LLP solicitors, confirmed on Thursday to the Irish Times.

The actions reportedly involve claims for nervous shock arising from the death of George Nkencho on December 30th 2020. He was shot dead by a member of the Garda Armed Support Unit outside his home in Clonee, Dublin 15, during a stand-off with gardaí.

(I'm not sure if one case by the family as a whole or a case taken by each family member individually, the word "actions" used so I assume multiple cases)

I have plenty of empathy for the family as it was a horrible thing to go through.

The question remains why compensation sought from those who are not the cause of said horror (George was) are being pursued and why compensation will magically relieve them of such. We're all human but possession of morals doesn't seem to be equally shared.

Dodgy solicitors looking to see if they can get a cut is the only reason they are looking for compensation, the usual no win, no fee and hope the state pays for the legal fee's

IF the case comes to court and they lose the legal costs should be put onto the family or the legal company taking the case.
