I think I realise I spend too much time watching stuff on markets when it is closed for couple extra days and I find myself with a gap in the day.

Find all EV stuff fascinating. And no doubt fortunes have and will be made. I just can't get head around how you value the sector. Just outside my mental capacity and risk appetite. But will continue to watch from sidelines.
Saw this image on Twitter that sums up why I stay away from EV's. It's a list of SPACs from last year, and how much revenue they projected V how much they actually got and have guided for this year.

Every single EV SPAC has massively underperformed. It's the main reason they're all going the SPAC route, they can sawy whatever they want in the propspectus unlike in an IPO when there are more rules.

The SPAC bubble will burst as a result of EV companies. Which is a pity because I love EV's, the new ID4 looks amazing.

I had a look at it and my conclusion was the same, it is just prohibitive with the tax. I went with Investment Trusts instead.

What investment trusts do you use? Just looking for some broad market exposure, nothing amazing, thinking about F&C, Monks, Mid Wynd

Another boards special, Marathon, nice 15% pump today so I sold all my 220 shares for an 80% gain, I need to lock in some profits and reduce my growth stocks holdings after the last month's hammering. If it pulls back towards 40, and bitcoin holds above 50k$ I'll look at re-entering.

I've invested in IPOF but I'm down 25% or so.

But another SPAC I have my eye on is in Europe. It's called 2MX Organic.

It's run by Xavier Neil, who has control of Eir.

It's target is going to be organic food type company.

I am not an expert on SPACs but I believe if they don't get a target you get 10 euro per share back. It's currently trading at 9.93 so I don't see a downside.

    Anyone have any additional insights?

Dumped my Deliveroo stock this morning, @ 288p, I was hoping to scalp a quick 10% before Degiro blocked trading. This looks like it will fall a lot further over the next while, long term it will be an investment for me but not until we see the dust settle

Bought into Volkswagen 3 months ago and im up 100% percent so far , if any one is looking for an electric vehicle stock , i would recommend doing some research into Volkswagen as they will be the biggest manufacturer of electric vehicles in the future.

Also if any one is interested, Porsche own 50% of the shares in Volkswagen and are currently undervalued and by purchasing shares through Porsche , you own Volkswagen shares at a discount based on the current valuations of both companies.

Was in this earlier - didn't move a whole lot so left. Casino was rumoured to be target. The latter has rocketed recently - so I should have gone with that.

The downside on SPAC's is they get a target and either get a bad company or a bad valuation.

Ultimately dependant on the sponsor as I'm sure you are aware with IPOF. I got very lucky getting out break even at just the right time on IPOF as my BEP was 14.5

Think Porsche own 31% of VW (VOW), not 50% but it is still undervalued based off that alone. The group also own some other business ventures. It's my next purchase

Everything getting toppy now. Going to leave everything I have but think I will slow down rate of investing. Go back to building some more cash

Ive been 100% for about a month, transferred 4k back into degiro which will go in today/tomorrow but may still hold of if its still choppy. Was going to go EV's anyway, NIO/Tesla/CCIV.

Have a look at what Voyager Digital has done in the last year as well. There will be more growth in that space but they will crash hard when BTC does. Some people predicting around September but no one can time that market.

Yeah I was at a presentation about their EV investments a in January 2020 and was very impressed with what they're working on. I'm currently test driving an iD4 and it's a great car. This will be the next Volkswagen Golf. For all the lovely EV SPACs that we've all got distracted by, there's a far bigger chance that it's Volkswagen that's gonna be the leader in this industry (even ahead of Tesla).

Hardest part of investing in Volkswagen is figuring out the ticker - they have about 20!

Ignoring the tounge in cheek headline I thought this was interesting regarding the potential negative impacts of the rise and rise of passive investing

VOW3 is on DeGiro, not sure about VOW. Yep, PAH3 is Porsche Holdings company that owns 31% of VOW and VOW actually own Porsche brand I think which is confusing !

    UPDATE TO POSITIONS

Not much has changed in my main listing. I've included Intellia Therapeutics
as they have risen nicely over the last month and are a significant holding.
I sold some VOW3 this week only to reduce my exposure and keep the PF balanced. I sold spac Far Peak Acquisition Corp, and bought into HighCape Capital Acquisition Corp. I added to Skyworks solutions during the last sell off, happy with that move, I'm expecting good returns from Skyworks once the 5G era gets established

Main positions~ 75% of my PF
    • Intel
    • Exxon Mobile
    • Skyworks Solutions
    • UCB sa
    • Shanghai Henlius Biotech
    • Aryzta
    • Volkswagen
    • Baba
    • Intellia Therapeutics

    Crsprs (~8%)
    • Editas Medicine
    • Applied Genetic Technologies Corp
    • Beam Therapeutics
    • Vascular Biogenics LtdD
    Current Speculative holdings (~6%)
    spacs
    • HighCape Capital Acquisition Corp

Others (very small positions not all listed)
    • Cocrystal Pharma
    • Winston Gold corp
    • AbCellera Biologics
    • Edesa Biotech
    • BowLeven Plc

Holding about 8% cash now too.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,239 ✭✭✭Pussyhands

When you say cash holdings, do you mean of your portfolio or of the total amount of cash you have?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 204 ✭✭Chuckie_Egg

The cash value is 8% my portfolio that I use for trading in and out of stocks but I rarely let it go below 5%.

(I don't include other assets like property, land, cash on deposit etc)
