Monsoon like weather here near Lucan. Genuinely sounds and feels like Thailand (but without the heat). It's crazy!

Why do these cells spark furiously enroute to Dublin and suddenly cut out when they arrivre?

That shower over south Kilkenny aroung 15:30 today caused crazy flash flooding and had intense hailstones. I was near Callan at the time and traffic on the Clonmel to Kilkenny road was brought to a standstill with flood water and super low visibility.

While I'm enjoying the marginally drier conditions here on the West Coast, I'm getting quite envious of these daily thunderstorms.

We've had it all today, 3 or 4 rounds of it

Sunday (chart below) and Monday could be another couple of days to watch for the eastern half the country for some pulse storms as another polar sourced (slack) low hovers close to the county. Sunday itself will depend on how quickly the initial front clears through.

Sadly cattle were killed by lightning in the late afternoon storm near Tinahely in South Wicklow yesterday,we could hear the storm and see the lightning here about 20kms SE of it
It must have been ferocious underneath it

It only takes one strike to take out a whole herd of cattle. Because they stand on all fours, the potential difference between their front and hind hooves causes a current to flow through their body and heart. I remember hearing old wives' tales about staying well clear of animals during a thunderstorm as they "attract" lightning, but this false conclusion most likely came about due to the above.

Having said that, there was a good bit of action there alright.

Saw that there were calves killed near Tullow on the 15th as well , reported by Carlow Weather. Looking through Twitter there were a lot of CG strikes recorded, and a fair share of funnels over the few days ,the storms were quite potent at times.

As highlighted by Oneric Sunday is looking like giving thunderstorm potential post frontal airmass, a bit away but models showing a very cold upper pool of air over Ireland, possibly even colder than yesterday but surface temps look cool. Will be interesting watching this evolve and to see if it coincides with afternoon heating , might be more shear available also.

What kills them aswell is if they are standing in a pool of water during a lighning strike and heavy rain
