Yeah, they're still stupidly expensive though and will be of no use to pretty much everyone for the foreseeable future.

Anyone on the Beta, can you invite others?

If so, can I please get an invite? 😊

Sadly one of the notes at the bottom may scupper that:

*PS5 beta access will be available to selected participants in the U.S., Canada, Japan, U.K., Germany and France (same countries as our last system software beta).

And not half assed like the Xbox, which while supporting Dolby Vision for games and streaming apps does not for UHD blurays.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 158 ✭✭Kevrano

It sounds the reverse for Dolby Atmos: The beta will not enable Atmos for streaming service, as the third party vendors will need to update their software, but this will not be supported during the beta:

***Media app providers can update their apps on PS5 to support Dolby Atmos audio, giving users another way to experience immersive audio in movies, TV shows, and more in the future (these app updates are not currently supported in the PS5 beta.)

Yeah, they cut a lot of countries out for some reason, i used to get the ps4 beta updates bit none for ps5.

    Oooh that is nice.

Need to leave my 2 x white dualsense into Cex and get 2 x midnight black from the Smyths offer before Friday.

    Then some black console covers.

Got my black ps5 controller yesterday, so now have one white and one black. Told herself it was so we could play 2-player games haha

I bought a few PSN gift cards from local shop. Tried to redeem them on the console and it says the value and asks if I want to add to wallet only for an error to pop up saying 'The prepaid card could not be redeemed, please try again later'. I tried on my phone and said incorrect or already used. Anyone else come across this? I usually get it online but had the cash and saw them in the shop. FFS!

Edit: Sony checked them, the shop never activated the codes. Had to go back and figure out how to activate them. Sorted now except one code which was tried too many times and the app freaked out. Have to 'try later'

TLDR - Avoid buying psn codes in a local shop!

Traded in my black PS5 controller and my son's blue starlight controller into Cex today. So got 48 credit for the black one and 45 for the blue 1 in cash. Went around to smyths around the corner and got the cosmic red 1 and another blue 1. More was handy to do as there brand new the 2 ones are and least longer in warranty now as I say the blue one I traded in was got when they originally came out and same with the black controller. So cost nothing as smyths selling them for 45. Was more just time and effort which took less then 45 mins. So if thinking about it people should do it before prices rise in smyths again.

Yip. Doing the same right now. For the warranty 👍. Makes sense.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,335 ✭✭✭RGARDINR

Exactly I would recommend doing it just for that even.

Picked up two black controller's today in Smyths.

I had to buy a second controller as part of a deal in PC World when I got the PS5 at the start of 2021.

I'll trade the old ones in tomorrow in CEX.

Pretty happy with resetting the warranty on my controllers and getting my preferred controller colour for €12.

Especially given the drift/potentiometer issues some people have had

The refresh of the battery is not to be sniffed at also.

Sold 2 and got 2 today. Guy in Smyths was giving a spiel about 6 month warranty which hes obviously told to say. I just said thanks and left.

Seeing that some of you got new controllers, what controllers do you currently have?

    I have:

White, Galactic Purple, God of War Ragnarok and Starlight Blue controllers.

I Have the white one, cosmic red and starlight blue. I am tempted to get rid of the white one as I have that since I got the ps5 but would of been the spare controller so hardly used and get 39 for it in cex and get the black controller for 45 in smyths. So that would mean I would have 3 new controllers less then a wk old then.

I exchanged my two white controllers for two black controller's, im a simple man with simple needs😁

Traded in my white ps5 controller and my son's white 1 as well into Cex. We're the spare ones we got when getting PS5 so they were more or less brand new as hardly used. Cost 12 euro then to trade them into smyths to get midnight black one for myself and cosmic red for my son. So that's it now all controllers traded in so have all brand new ones less then a wk old. So battery /warranty etc. Will be better on them. If people have a CEX and smyths near them they should do the same. Now only thing is CEX will check your controller for drift stick etc but literally 15 seconds test.

Traded in my black one, and brought in my old white one which, imo, had left stick drift but only slightly. Haven't used it since I got the Edge. He tested both and gave me €83 cash. I then got a new black one in Smyths. Pretty sure it's now matt, whereas the one I traded in was shiny. But it is an A model, so have the upgrade.

Now have the new black one and my Edge. I only need 2.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,493 ✭✭✭jj880

Wasnt aware of that. I got 2 x A models also nice. So newer models have stronger triggers and a different coloured component in the analogue sticks. Anyone ever find out if the different coloured component helps stop stick drift? I cant find anything that states this for sure.

That would be excellent as I did have some drift issues but thankfully within 12 month warranty.

Sweet, i didn't know about the ds upgrade! For anyone else wondering, Check the fcc id at the beach. The original model ends in 1, the upgraded model ends in A.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,335 ✭✭✭RGARDINR

Yeah that's class I checked on YouTube as I didn't know what the A grade was. All mine were. Saying that I took a pic of the back of my son's white 1 he got at for Xmas before I traded it in and that was an A one as well. But that's really good to know about that now.

Just wondering in regards the 12 month warranty with Sony in the box with the controller. Does that only kick in when you connect it to the ps5 for the 1st time and it asks for an update? So if you technically only do that say in a years time as you may only be using 1 controller you could technically be in warranty for a few years as you might not use 2nd controller for a year or 2. Or am I completely wide of the mark?

The warranty starts from the date of purchase unfortunately.
