We could start by stopping referring to obesity as being something to be celebrated....

That's only a small Vocal minority though, most people m, even if severely overweight themselves, know it's not a good thing

God poor Adele. She can't win. Constantly talked about for her weight for years. She losses weight and that's a problem too.

Maybe leave people alone and stop judging other people's bodies.

And fair play to her. She looks fantastic.

Women really can be their own worst enemies.
She can win, though. She's happy, talented, loved and loaded.

The obsession the media and some cohorts of the public have over the weight's of celebrities is something I will never be able to understand
Well women celebrities in the vast majority of cases. Why? Loads of reasons, some noted going way back in history* but these days it can be argued it's mostly all about the money. Keeping women insecure about their appearance makes many billions per annum for all sorts of commercial interests. Too fat, too thin, too old, too young, too blonde, too whatever, we've a product for that. Because you're worth it(tm).

The fashion and general media buys into this in a big way. So you could have one page of a magazine online or off celebrating Adele's "beach ready body", another lamenting her not "sporting her curves" any more and yet another with details of her weightloss plan and yet another criticising her for losing the weight. That's damned confusing crap, but again plugs into insecurity.

Some point the finger at the "male gaze" for this as a handy way out. Problem being and as I've noted before, there are more ages, sizes and ethnicities of the female form in a week of Pornhub's output aimed squarely at the "male gaze" than any fashion magazine anywhere has shown over the last century.

I dunno how it can be solved and worse it's gotten with digital manipulation to the point where women who match the current ideal actually don't minus photoshop.

*The Greeks and later Arab doctors recognised and noted eating disorders almost exclusively in women. All societies hold an ideal of both the male and female form, but the male ideal tends to be very much more consistent, whereas the female varies all over the place and rapidly with it. The winner of a Ms World type beauty competition in the 50's wouldn't get past the regional heats today.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

The likes of Lizzo etc should be banned/shamed for saying that fat is beautiful.

Congrats to McSharry for making it all about her.

Why the shock horror that a multi multi millionaire who can afford the best PT, the best nutritionist and the best chefs has lost this weight?

Fair dues, she put the work in too. If only finding excuses burned calories!

I don't know about banned but the promotion of unhealthy body image and weight is damaging to many.

OK, but how do we feel about people losing the rag about people losing the rag over Adele’s weight loss?

And are people losing the rag about people losing the rag about people losing the rag over Adele’s weight loss any better or are they worse?

    Banned? No.
    Engaged in rigorous intellectual discussion.

Everyone has a right to do what they want about their own weight. But they don't have the right to say obesity is ok. It's the single biggest health issue in the western world.... (Covid doesn’t get a look in)
