    Warning signs in Nowlan Park 6 1/2 years ago and Ger Loughnane the following night on TSG warned it could fall off the hurling map which has occured within the last two years if the GAA and county board didn't get things in complete order and so it has come to pass. Every stakeholder at each level should hang their heads with huge shame for allowing this to happen.

    I don't think anyone has a bone to pick with Offaly.

    The objections to your post are based on calling them "a disgrace". The only reason (if there is any) for calling them a disgrace would be if they're actually a top level team who either didn't try or didn't care and lost as a result. Offaly are definitely not a top team and haven't been in a while, so that's obviously not the reason.

    The only other option is if you reckon every team playing at that level is a disgrace for not being in the top tier. I'd hope that isn't the case.

    Donal Og ripped the Offaly myth apart on the Sunday Game one time and showed that the 80s and 90s were the anomaly for Offaly not current times. They are not some sleeping giant like Limerick with 2 AI in 80 odd years or underachievers like Mayo in football

    True but it's still very sad to watch especially with the paucity of top level counties in hurling which meant nearly a century and a half of complete failure by our supposed custodians in Croke Park.

    Irrespective of the state of Offaly, I think its worth mentioning that the likes of my county, Wicklow, who are in 2A, and indeed Down, only have a limited number of clubs to choose from but still give good value.

    Todays result is not a surprise for me.

    And the Joe McDonagh level is tough as well. Would Offaly have been able to compete with Kerry Antrim etc ? I'm not sure.

    What do you expect them to do have 32 teams that can win the AI. Name me one tournament in the world that is won by more than a few big teams every year. Little counties like Offaly shouldnt be expecting to be at the top table in 2 codes all the time

    No but hurling is meant to be the national game with perhaps 16-20 teams at the top level which isn't completely unreasonable. Not being able to win the main competition or compete shouldn't be an excuse for neglect of our national game.

    I saw somewhere that Offaly were 1/33 to win that game today!

    Both finalist get promoted to Joe McDonagh next year so that game doubled as a promotion play-off too.

    Hurling has always been a minority sport compared to our other national game of football. 16-20 teams at the top level is unreasonable when you look at the areas where hurling is popular and the number of clubs in weaker counties. My county, Donegal, has 9 clubs. 4 compete at junior level. Leitrim has 2 clubs. Fermanagh has 1 club. Football doesn't even have 16 teams who are able to compete at the top level.

    Donal Óg is right about developing hurling by providing more funding and putting good plans in place. Unfortunately, he has a tendancy to blame football for holding hurling back and some of his proposals such as the Team Ulster make no sense.

    Next week is a massive weekend in the JM cup, Antrim having the week off and They face Meath in round 5 and a draw will do but atm they look to have secured a final place

    Round 4 (Sat 21st Nov)-Nothing only pride on the line in the Meath vs Westmeath game but the Kerry vs Carlow match is massive, Must win game for Kerry as its their last game and a loss will knock them out of the championship. A Carlow win puts them in a great position for a final place going into Round 5 where they will face Westmeath

    Christy Ring Final - Kildare vs Down (both promoted too the JM cup for 2021)
    Nicky Rackard Final- Mayo vs Donegal
    Lory Meagher Final- Fermanagh vs Louth

    Not sure there doing the triple header in Croke Park this year

    Spot on, that’s the crux of it.

    These footballing counties getting away with a total inept attitude towards hurling.

    They have a hatred of hurling in counties like Meath, Louth and Monaghan from my experience of living there.

    Hats off to counties like Kerry and Carlow etc who have county boards who are forward thinking and trying to get their hurling teams up to a higher level because county boards have a lot to answer for the state of hurling in the Christy ring, Nicky Rackard and lory meagher counties.

    Hurling isn't doing too bad in Wicklow. We have about a dozen clubs with adult teams and half of them have two teams.

    A lot of clubs from these counties are going outside for underage which should see benefits in years to come. Carlow teams in Kilkenny and Laois, Wicklow teams in Dublin and Wexford, aren’t Naas basically Kilkenny at all underage levels?

    Getting beaten by better teams is the only way to progress really.

    It's an awful pity these joe mcdonagh Cup games are not picked up by main stream TV. Some of them are right good games

    And yet Meath are in the Joe McDonagh. Hurling has never been big in Monaghan but they have 4 or 5 clubs playing it.

    Which county? Most counties have football and hurling only clubs and I've heard of any fines being given out. Setanta in Donegal aren't fined for not playing football. And clubs shouldn't be forced to play hurling. That is the wrong approach and will only increase resistance to the sport.

    They seem to have a very decent hurling team since around 2015 onwards.

    In Kerry itself there's some very dedicated people but the general public don't care and despite the myth that we all work to keep em down in Munster I'd say you would find as many Limerick,Cork or whoever that can tell you where Kerry are in the league as Kerry people could. Same often goes the other direction for football as Kerry fans can be more knowledgeable about Limerick football than your average Limerick hurling fan

    North Kerry is the home of Kerry hurling with massive interest in county hurling championship with great rivallary between the senior clubs but only 8 clubs in a small pocket of the county .No real interest in any of the towns or the rest of the county so if they had a hand full of other clubs to pick from they could be a force.Some underage clubs starting up in Tralee and Killarney so hopefully things will improve in this regard

    Killarney and Tralee clubs contested the intermediate final this year Crokes beating Parnells. If the Munster club had gone ahead they would have been in the junior.
    Kerry senior clubs play intermediate in the Munster club.
    You also have Kilgarvan and Kenmare teams.
