Usually with the OEMs if you have kept up the full dealer service history youd get a goodwill gesture on an engine failure that close to warranty

I think you are Joking above but in case anyone takes the above as the truth, the car that went on fire was an old Mercedes ICE as far as I remember 🙂

The old bmw yes, current era bmw, not so much!

Indeed. They reckoned she wanted a flame grilled quarter pounder and cheese. Shuda went to Burger King.

Now you’re just adding fuel to the fire. I heard they wanted a Hot Zinger Tower meal from KFC….

I’ve to leave the car in to Sandyford to have the boot struts looked at /replaced. Not great on a 221. Anyone else had it done or know how long it takes? Looks like I won’t get a replacement car while it’s in the shop.

Should be a quick fix if they have them in stock. There was a recall to replace a rubber seal in the drive strut.

Which cars were affected? We had issues with the boot on MIC April 2021 build back in the day before the torque limits were adjusted in the software. Would be great to get this recall looked at before the warranty runs out.

Website says Jan/Feb. I’d say it’s a given as the refresh model is ready.

I ordered a M3 LR the day they came available to order and mine says Jan/Feb.

This just popped up from nowhere last night. I'll try and charge it later to see what happens.

That means there's some problem with the car taking your AC charge and converting/putting it into the DC battery. I'd do a hard reset and log with Tesla in any case in case something is starting to go wrong

My stuff on Adverts, mostly Tesla Pre Highland Model 3

m3 drivers aren’t prepared to trade their cars like most normal ownership behaviour.

There’s been just under 4,000 new M3’s registered according to beepbeep, whereas there’s just 42 (1%) available on Carzone today - it’s a massively disproportionate ratio compared to any other make & model.

its still the same adage - “the best value M3 is a new one”. And that’s never been more true now that the highland is coming.

if you really want value in a Freemont M3 (effectively 2 major iterations/refreshes old now) you’d need to be paying mid 20’s at most, and owners would clearly prefer to hold on to them rather than sell at that price.

Yeah, I was half interested in trading up out of my 2020 Fremont SR+ last year, especially when Tesla offered me €44k for it as a trade in October 2022!!! but since then, I'm realistic to know that I'd do (very) well to get €30k for it privately, and most likely €25k-€28k for a quick sale, so I've absolutely no interest at that price, and will happily keep it now for as long as it goes...

Even though its a Fremont built car and there have been a multitude of upgrades and improvements since then (and before Highland), it's still an unbelievable car which fully meets our demands and expectations... and we really don't have any need or reason to upgrade..

25-28k seems to be the lower price range for an SR+ with close to, or over, 100k km on the odometer? I'd imagine that a low mileage SR+ is still in the 29-32 margin, but that there might be people looking to do quick sales for less than that from time to time.

The dealership sticker prices are still from 29k for 100k km cars, which seems very high. Cheapest sub 50k km 192 SR+ is over 29k EUR, but would probably sell easy enough for 28k EUR. Add a grand or two for a 201 or 202 with 30-50k km on odometer, and another 4k for a LR equivalent.

Stuck it on an ESB AC charger there and it charged away no bother.

Also worth considering 202 M3s that were delivered in Q4 2020 as these were 2021 refresh models from Fremont.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,256 ✭✭✭✭AndyBoBandy

yes, this was a very short-lived version in Ireland that came from Fremont with a heat pump & the refresh interior but with the non LFP battery. It had a WLTP of 427km (up from the original SR+ of 409km). Then once Irish cars started coming from China in early 2021 with the LFP battery the WLTP increased to around 448km (can't remember the exact figure). Then the battery capacity increase came pushing the WLTP to 491km...

Thats what I like about my car.....all the goodness of the 21 refresh but still with the acceleration kick! 3 years on and I still thoroughly enjoy driving in it. Probably goes back to @sk8board's comment about low turnover of M3s.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,256 ✭✭✭✭AndyBoBandy

The early MIC cars with LFP battery also have the 5.6s acceleration time though as when most of them cars were ordered, 5.6s was the quoted time to 100km/h.... I think a lot of reservation holders kicked up a bit of fuss at the time that they potentially weren't going to get the car they ordered, so Tesla software unlocked the faster acceleration time.. but any new orders after they announced the slower acceleration got the slower cars...

    Hi Folks,

Just bought a 221 Model 3, came from a BMW 530e, cannot believe how much I am enjoying driving it and how soon I got used to the tech. Just one question please; I used to get the BMW washed in a Circle K garage, never any problems and car looked great after, any reasons why I should not get the white model 3 washed there also, I feel it would do a good job on the glass roof, any thoughts would be welcome....

Tesla paint is quite bad, so if you are into detailing and keeping the car looking as best it can for years to come then avoid automatic car washes as the brushes will destroy the paint...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,815 ✭✭✭✭josip

A lot of people say that Teslas have very soft paint and that car washes will leave swirls. I've only ever hand washed ours, but that's the same as for previous cars also. The difference being that previous cars might go 6 months in between washes whereas the Tesla never goes longer than 2 :)

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 42,530 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

I personally wouldn’t. Not because it’s a Tesla but. Cause I’d never do it on any car. Modern paint is soft due to the ban on certain chemicals some years ago.

On the positive side, a white car doesn't show marks as much as a darker colour. Also easier to polish out a lot of scratches and marks as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,141 ✭✭✭sk8board

As above, I’d never ever use a car wash on any car, but that’s just cause I hate swirls.

as for M3’s, I got a grey one polished and ceramic coated the week it was new about 2.5 years ago and the guy said the machine measured the paint so thin that he was afraid to polish some of the panels. He said Tesla’s measure the thinnest factory paint he’d ever seen.

as for my own paint, it was covered in swirls from the factory. The ceramic coating is worthwhile

Not sure how true it is but I was told by a Tesla sales guy at a test drive that the white and red have the most layers of paint. Think it's was 3 or 4 for the white and 4 or 5 for the red. He said all other colours only have two layers and will show up scratches much faster.

The white and red options are multi layer paints. The other colours are either standard metallic or solid.
