I haven’t taken the UMC out of the bag in years. Since I went from S to 3 and then Y.
For reference to anyone considering it.
I was the same, sat in the bag until we were rewiring our car park in work so I got a 32a blue socket put it, with our old S UMC they were 40a capable but alas with Gen 2 Tesla cut back to 32a for everyone. They used to sell a 3phase UMC for 11kW charging but it seems to have gone off their website, very handy for those with work access but not worth the cost over cheap 32a adapter
Did you buy a Y?
999 is for the untethered unit. I went with tethered. Tidy enough. Original plan was from the fuse board but this was more straight forward and no messing or cables in the house.
Yeah. Y LR with AB and 20” Induction Wheels.
No EU UMC was ever capable of 40A charging. 40A, 72A and 80A were the US standards. Indeed, outside of real edge cases, there is no 40A single phase in europe for EVs.
The EU UMC was only ever capable of 32A. The only loss was the removal of 3phase, which happened with the change from UMC1 to UMC2.
Could have sworn 40a, ah well, I never even used the adaptors when I had them, literally my paper weight now
See Tesla have had the chance to get trade ins up for sale, now 30 up on the site, there were certainly rows and rows of traded in Tesla's when I picked up my Highland in August
they’re just not selling privately, and many people just won’t sell privately anyway - so they have to swallow the Tesla trade price
Separately, looking at the €/km, the new LR RWD is head and shoulders better value than any other car available in Ireland, if range is what you’re after. It used to be that anything around €110/km was super, but the LR RWD takes that down considerably
(using the EV-database range, and the base Irish prices)
The new base INSTER is about the next best €/km, which just tells you how good the LR RWD is
Cars will always sell if priced and presented properly, I sold my 221M3 to first person at asking and I put it up a week before new car collection date.
The LR RWD is ~ €7.5k more and uses different chem, lots will not need this extra expense and it's been proven that over time the extra range of the LR chem pack will equalise out to the LFP RWD variant due to more degradation on the LR chem pack.
The RWD is better value now and into the future but folk might just see the extra range and make their decision on that which is a shame
I don't disagree with what you say except for the last bit. What do you think other people's decisions to buy something they want, given that you agree at worst the LR range with equalise to the RWD over time, is a shame?
I just think folk might not realise the actual day to day differential of the LR battery vs the RWD battery, the RWD battery can be charged to 100% every time and use all the capacity/range whereas you are advised to keep the LR battery around 80% for day to day driving which eliminates the range difference. Then there is the greater degradation associated with the LR battery (there's a reason Tesla have a higher mileage warranty with the LR battery pack).
Look, if someone wants to splash €7.5k just for range increase then they will be getting a great car, IMHO I'd rather keep the €7.5k when weighing off (my) cost vs benefit
USA had a 40a version i think.
Again I understand your point but I suppose people make subjective decisions all the time to get what they want rather than strictly what they need. I know a lad who spend €55k on a blinged up Q4 35 etron that doesn't do much over 200km at motorway speeds. I told him to get the 40 for the additional range but he preferred a power tailgate and big wheels to range. Of course constantly complaining about the range since and considering changing to a phev.
At least with RWD LR people are getting a substantial bump in range which will come in handy for longer journeys. Do they need it....probably not
They did, with plenty of melting complaints so Tesla did away with it
All batteries can be charged to 100%. Lfp have no advantage here and high charge levels damage the cells.
Guys driving during the week and a stone hit the windscreen and cracked it a small bit.
Auto glass repaired but the crack is very noticeable and when driving and the sun hits it glares while driving so I’d like it replaced. Would I better off going through the insurance for this or pay for it myself ? Anyone replaced a windscreen and how much would I be looking at ?
Thanks.
About 900, go through insurance if you have windscreen cover, hopefully that covers the lot and if not, then it should cover a chunk of it.
Autoglass had a delay of 2-3 months on sourcing a windscreen for me earlier this year, Tesla had it in stock within a few days.
Wait if you can.
Are you sure it's 900 as I had mine replaced and autoglass charged my insurance company 1,400 quid. I rang the insurance company to complain about the cost and they just shrugged their shoulders. No wonder premiums seem to be increasing.
I’m with 123 will that go against me claims wish ?
Check your policy, or if you cant find it, ring them and ask are you covered for windscreen cover. Alot of policies give you a windscreen a year but best to check.
And be careful for future policies as it goes down as a claim, even if it doesn't effect your no claims.
Make sure the camera is recalibrated after fitting and take it for a test drive as the 3 COD is precise so if not prefect you will get wind noise at speed
I've only got 10K left on my warranty and have decided to bite the bullet and get a new car.
I've got a trade offer from a garage which is reasonable, unlike the horrific excuse of an offer from Tesla, but there is no white RWD in inventory. Placing an order today, says estimated delivery is December, which i think if very very doubtful. more than likely Feb or March.
What do we think my chances are of one popping in to inventory in the next few weeks, before christmas?
No one knows, but Tesla are a PLC driven by Revenue so logic would state they want to make sales in December for Q4 uplift
I'm sure they've several live orders for a basic white RWD so if one does comes in and the matched buyer doesn't take it, I expect they'd go down the order list (potentially including as far as you) before putting it in the public inventory list. Something less generic like silver AWD with white seats and a tow bar might be less likely to have someone lined up for it so it's more likely to go straight to inventory. But you could be lucky, especially if you're able/willing to swap your order for something close enough that does come up.
That may be a reasonable expectation but cancelled cars usually appear in Inventory. Many people get annoyed that a car of the same spec appears in Inventory while they are still awaiting. However, I suspect that cars will appear in Inventory over coming weeks as some clients are likely to reject as they favour a 252 reg.
Graham Walker might be able to source a new car for you and trade in your existing one ?
Hi should I buy a new 2025 Tesla model 3 RWD( first time buying an EV) on Hire purchase over 3 years €15K down and €634 pm for 3 years at .99% APR …. I was originally thinking of buying a 2021 (LFP batteries) model with low mileage ( hard to find) however dealers are looking for between €25-27K model 3's seem to be holding there value well. Any advice appreciated ?
Me personally, I would put down the minimum deposit and put the remainder in a bunq savings account where you will receive 3.36% interest.
What you'll earn from bunq will more than cover the .99% Tesla interest and more importantly it'll prevent the savings from being eroded by inflation (0.1% as of October 2024).
