    Wow, thanks for sharing. An interesting and semi familiar read, as I followed the same path. The accounts receivable department I started in was a little more run of the mill though to say the least.

    Reminds me of the odd boy / son sketches by Harry Enfield.

    A boy is playing with cars and a truck.
    His dad asks him if they have broken down and he is fixing them.
    No the boy says, they fell behind on their hire purchase payments and I am repossessing the car.

    I've a cousin who has his own small building company, started off as a bricklayer and now has a degree in civil engineering. Far from ignorant.
    His work is all word of mouth now , specialises in one off houses or refurbishments of older artisan style houses .
    Hes booked up till early next year.

    Of course there are great builders. I know one who was doing a garage conversion on a house in a local estate. He started the work at the height of the recession. It took him three years to get out of the estate because so many others wanted him to do work for them.
    You will get the dodgy builders too but that happens with every occupation.
