Was one of our most consistent performers over those 3 years. Wasn't far off an All star in 2020, helped turn the Tipp game off the bench in 2022 and was one of the only ones who stood out and took the fight to Cork in 2022 up to the sending off.

Have a look at the highlights of another hugely disappointing day for Waterford in that period, 2021 v Clare, and that will tell you all you need to know about how the man has consistently been held to a totally different standard to other members of the team. He was brilliant that day, but quickly forgotten.

I'd agree I don't see the benefit of him getting 3 or 4 points from half forward as he'll get you that from half back.

I think club hurling in Carrickbeg whilst being left totally free as his marker roams is a fair cry from Munster championship intensity against the movement of Fitzgibbon/Barrett, Ormonde, Kelly or Lynch etc with pace surrounding them and free unpressurised shots like Sunday a rarity.
The points were incredible the other day but we have seen many days with club and county where these shots from 80-100 yards have sailed wide frustratingly for both the forwards and supporters. I even remember one this year from a Hail Mary shot from 55 yards on the turn against Limerick dropping short this year at a key stage when the shot wasn’t on.
Aussie was very good the other day but still needs to get himself fully fit as he has missed games with Mount Sion so far and came off early on Sunday, I think there is a lot of work for him before he is at the level of an intercounty centre backs required level of fitness.

100% agree. Thought he was excellent under Cahill.

Weekends fixtures, Ballygunner, Roanmore, Mount Sion and Lismore off for the weekend (and can go to Oasis if they want 😀)

Roanmore and Mount Sion when clubs were dominating in the city

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 509 ✭✭✭Teebor15

The dominance of Ballygunner continues to grow…

Senior Championship - Cruising through it.

    Intermediate - Into Semi Finals

Junior A - Into Eastern Semi Finals

Junior B - Into Eastern Semi Finals

Minor - Topping group, dishing out hammerings.

U16 - Topping group, dishing out hammerings.

U15 - Championship won with ease, also National Division 1 Feile Champions.

    U14 - Topping Group

U13 - Championship not started yet, but have already claimed Div 1 and Div 2 City League honours.

Watching the Ballygunner v Roanmore game, I know it was a dead rubber but the changes Ballygunner made beforehand and during the game made no difference to the strenght of the team, such is the quality coming through. Without taking the Waterford Championship for granted their sights and ambitions must be now continually on Muster and All Irelands.

Roanmore and Mount Sion appear to be the next best but still seem a long way from mounting a serious challenge either this year or ever…neither do any of the other senior contenders for that matter!

Tramore have the population and in fairness to them they are making decent strides at underage to capitalise on that but with their first team now in a Premier Intermediate relegation play off the wait will continue.

De La Salle appear to have dropped back in the pecking order, their move to Gracediu may have backfired for the moment. The intention was right, to locate where all the new houses were planned back in the Celtic Tiger but they are only very slowly coming on stream. Has this allowed Mount Sion and Roanmore to get a better hold of the large population in the Cleaboy/Hillview area?

DLS will always be associated with the schools st Declan’s and Stephen St NS, I think the old inner city lines that used to define whether you are Mount sion de la salle or Erin’s Own are long gone as it’s mainly non GAA populous living in these areas today, these clubs are mainly dependant on the descendants of people that originally hailed from the catchment areas that moved out to to suburbs that remained loyal to their clubs. Roanmore were a new club formed in the 70s that broke away from Mt Sion and probably have more of a defined Catchment area now than Sion including that new developed area that grew in the top of the town. St Saviours is a small tight knit area with an aging population and Ferrybank is niche over the bridge on its own, its very much a Redeveloping suburb with young population moving to the area but has its own catchment issues with most of the area actually situated within Co Kilkenny

Ballygunner are the in the driving seat in terms of clear catchment area, they know where their players are coming from. While all the other city clubs seem to live off scraps, competing with each other for the same players

Ballygunner 0-26 affane/cappoquin/tourin 1-15 in IPHC semi final

Is it still the case of Ballygunner having 2 senior teams next year if they win the Premier Intermediate final ?

Winner of Tallow and Ballysaggart will represent Waterford in Munster regardless

Who knows. Jordan Norris from WLR seems to think they would. Let's see how the final goes first I guess

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,024 ✭✭✭914

I would imagine the if BG won the losers would get promoted and represent Munster.

I couldn't imagine BG would want two senior teams.

    Christ no

Can you imagine a co. Final Ballygunner v Ballygunner

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,528 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

DLS 0-10 fbank 0-8 half time. Not a lot between the teams in first half. DLS missed a pen but fbank have hit a few wides

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,528 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

DLS win 0-22 to 0-9. Was 0-13 to 0-9 with 15 mins to go but fbank ran out of gas.

Tallow beat Ballysaggart in Intermediate Premier SF

Portlaw beat Tramore in Intermediate Premier Relegation final by a point

How are the Western and Eastern Intermediate Championships looking ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,528 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

Roanmore into Eastern final with a win last night anyway

Clonea with a 1 point win over Dungarvan. Dungarvan had a great chance to level at the end but went for a goal instead.

    2-15 1-17

Be cruel if one of the seeds lose but that's sport

If both are kept apart I can see a Ballygunner vs Mount Sion final and wouldn't it be great if it was competitive

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,582 ✭✭✭Mastermcgrath

Does anyone go down if Ballygunner win the intermediate and don’t go up?

Is that your opinion or is that fact ? Genuine question. It'd be fairly unusual ( if not unprecedented ) to have two senior teams from the same club competing to win the senior hurling championship in a county.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,024 ✭✭✭914

There was talk of this the last few seasons and I was of the understanding that they would remain premier intermediate with the losers being promoted

Unless something has changed, it would be nice to know for fact.

Perhaps the county board are hoping the final plays out so they don't have to make a calling on it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 911 ✭✭✭Deskjockey

I don't think any club would agree to have two teams playing senior, it would potentially cause bad blood within a club and would go against a club striving for a common goal

    https://www.wlrfm.com/sport/premier-intermediate-ballygunner-1450466

Im not sure anyone knows for definite. On first glance of this article I thought they would have two teams but on second reading the word "potentially" is used so the author is covering themselves.

"Ballygunner are now just an hour away from potentially having two teams in next year’s Waterford Senior Hurling Championship"

    I don’t think that’s right

im fairly sure there’s it’s a GAA rule around that, 2 teams from the same club can’t field in the same competition

I also don’t agree with the losers of PIHC getting promoted either, if you haven’t been good enough to win it you shouldn’t be rewarded with promotion . Simple as.
my query is whether anyone should come down.. if Bgunner were to win 3/4 years intermediate on the trot you’d end up in a farcical situation with a team going down every year and no one coming up

maybe a solution could be a playoff between pihc losers and relegation final losers?
