Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

No, look I'll take any advice to be honest. Just very new to this and wasn't sure on the importance of panel rankings to vacancies ratio.

Hi, yes as probably the same for you, I got a mail about something in relation to clearance in 2021. Just looking at responses from other CS threads and it looks like some got calls. Just an hoping they start calling people even if it's yourself first so that I can get an idea :). Well done on the placement btw, ranking that high is extremely good. So hopefully we hear something soon on movement but there could be a chance the covid or other factors could delayed contacting us :/

Hi yes got placed on panel there before Xmas but no call yet

Well done. Ah I'm just impatient :). Heard clearance can vary depending on department, but was hoping that they would of started to call up some people to get the ball rolling. However, it is only the first week in Jan and probably a lot of staff will be back starting from Monday. Not sure if they call or email or both?

Yeah I'd say next week before it get's going when people are fully back in but even still it could be another few weeks with the pandemic. you'll get a call first with an offer.

How many do you think they will call immediately off the panel, top 20, top 50 etc???

Yeah seems to be the case. Do you mind me asking where you placed yourself? . Oh someone told me they ask for references and then give you an offer, but I suppose an offer first would make sense.

Yep ur right there, they will check references first and then offer, I'm based in Wexford

I can't remember if they request referees first or did we put them on the forms?

As far as I can recall on my application no referees were put down. So I would say that I'll have to provide them to PAS?

  • Registered Users Posts: 554 ✭✭✭brownbinman

grand, I haven't said anything to my AP yet so was holding out to see what's offered

He's grand and all but I'm already an AO so not sure how he'll take it, more money and sort of stuck where I am. It's a better role for me overall

Best of luck, I'm external myself. Hopefully it works out for everyone :).

Does anyone know if we will have information about the role before allowing them to contact current employer for a reference? Salary is considerably less than what is being paid in private sector, so it would come down to whether the project work is more interesting than what I'm currently working on. But current employer may not appreciate me looking elsewhere.

Under section 5 of this link

    https://www.publicjobs.ie/en/information-hub/faq-info#5-i-ve-accepted-a-job-what-happens-next

    7. Why must I use my present employer as a reference before assignment?
We use your present employer for reference purposes. However, if you are working in the private sector, no contact will be made with your current employer without your permission.

I think once you accept the job then they will call your present employer. As far as I know you will enter in on the lower end / minimum scale 48k. So if you accept that then they will go about contacting your present employer.

I highly doubt PAS will know the project work going on in the department that you may accept.

This is just my opinion and may not be accurate.

I'm private sector also, I definitely cannot give a reference from my current employer.
I'm hoping they will accept my former boss who left the business as a reference.
It's a big enough salary drop for me also & I'm tied to location, I think I've only 1 department as an option to me.
It's strange we haven't chosen a location.. Its making me a bit nervous.. I really hope they are not going to say this was a Dublin only competition 😬

I emailed PAS today & got a reply to say there will be an email to all candidates next week & there are no vacancies in rural areas unfortunately

No rural vacancies in all streams?.

And an email next week :( the wait is killing me

  • Registered Users Posts: 30 proFriendL

Me too.. That's why I contacted them..

This was the reply I got

"We will be writing to all candidates next week
Unfortunately, there are no vacancies in rural areas at present"

So I don't know if it's for all streams or just the Digital Transformation

Fair play to you on the email. Just a waiting game ...

We're you holding out for rural?

  • Registered Users Posts: 30 proFriendL

Yeah I'm only interested in one rural location.. Hopefully something will come up eventually!

Presume it'll be vetting forms, then offer once clearance comes through

Not me I'm afraid. To anybody who has had an interview or is due to have an interview for any of the streams, at what point did PAS let you know who your panel members were?

"I am pleased to inform you that you are under consideration for a position as as Senior ICT Specialist – Transformation and Business Engagement, Office of the Government Chief Information Officer"

I have just received the mail. I'm assuming its Dublin based so I have replied to find out.. I wont be accepting if its Dublin based .. although if its a remote until further notice I could consider.

Well done anyways, be nice for you if it was remote.

Are they contacting you for references or anything?

There is nothing about references on the email but the Garda vetting, health declaration, document request for educational certs are all attached to the email

    Cool.

Again well done, be nice if they could offer remote for you. Shame the majority of positions are Dublin based.

the OGCI office is in grand canal behind the convention center

  • Registered Users Posts: 554 ✭✭✭brownbinman

Got the offer myself for OGCIO which I figured it would be for. Definitely taking it, it's the one I wanted

Would advise if people offered same and in position to take it, to take it. A lot of projects will originate in OGCIO for across the Government

Did they respond to you regarding office location? I've received a similar email and am wondering whether I can save myself the hassle of filling out the forms as I'm also not interested if the role is in Dublin.

"No, while there is currently no Remote Working protocol in place and in line with public health advice, employees can work from home. When it is safe to do so, and in line with public health advice employees will be expected to be available to work in the office, as the needs arise.”

& he said I can be kept on the panel for my chosen locations.
I haven't replied.. Im still thinking this through.. Remote could be for another year or so.. Who knows & transfers are possible & as above poster has said the department is an interesting one to get experience in..

Was there an option on the short application form to select locations?

    Hi,

Does anyone know how long the vetting process takes?

  • Registered Users Posts: 554 ✭✭✭brownbinman

I was emailing PAS as I lost my transcripts. They said it's no panic getting that in on time once other stuff is in. They also said they'll be waiting on vetting in the meantime, which takes a few weeks anyway

So in short, a few weeks

Did they specifically ask you for transcripts of exam results from your degree? I don't recall seeing any mention of that in the booklet. I graduated in the 1990s and while I do have the parchment in a drawer somewhere, I'd have a hell of a time trying to source transcripts.

College administration should be able to provide this. They're well used to it.

"original academic qualifications" Not the parchment drawer

I emailed DCU about mine, takes a week or two as they're not in office this week. They'll send them out, think it'll be A4 size. Vetting and all takes few weeks so PAS said it's no bother once I get the other stuff in
