I got the sim card in 8 days, switched today and something went wrong, old sim card disconnected, new sim card doesn't work. 48 said they are raising ticket and it will take 7 to 10 working days. I have filled in Comreg complaint and I will need to get a new number (had my old number for 15 years!). Be warned people ... don't switch to 48 if you value your current phone number.

Customer service online was totally useless ...

They have not lost your number.Tell them you want your number back.Do it repeatedly on chat quoting the report number you got from them so that they get the message.Did you get a report number on your initial chat/call? If not ask for it.When Comreg reply they will give you an email address for 48 complaints(in Limerick).Constant contact with 48 on chat is the key to resolution.Once every day get onto chat.Once for email complaint

Their email address is support@48months.zendesk.com. I found it on their website.

48 are owned by a company in China, so might as well say the Chinese government. Their customer service is run out of India entirely, and I'd doubt if you could escalate to speaking with anyone in Ireland even if you were the head of Comreg.

They were cheap when I signed up and so far that hasn't changed so I am more or less happy with that aspect, but since recently having tried using their CS, I am less oblivious to their faults than I was.

Zendesk seems to be an out-sourced customer service specialist in India. Just in the last couple of days I was onto a UK based online music platform about an album I puchased. Everything was handled by Zendesk, who I must say did an exemplary job of sorting the issue with good communications.

They asked me for my full name, email, phone n. and PUK for identification purposes. They didn't get the latter, I told them it felt like my bank asking me for my card's PIN. The jury is still out.

You could get lucky and have your email answered by a 3 rep in Ireland especially when you mention Comreg

I got a new replacement sim card last week. It came with an activation code, but i can't find where to input the activation code. I've searched the 48.ie website (logged into my account) and used google search but no joy.

I got another reply asking me for two more pieces of information on top of what they already got. It's like support person one asking you for all 6 numbers of your PIN, you give them three telling them why, then support person 2 writes back asking you for the remaining three.

Am I being thick or are they?

What do u think they're going to do with this info?

It depends on what their intentions are. If they're honest, nothing sinister. If they're not, they could use it to clone my SIM, steal my personal data/identity, etc.

"One moment please. We’re retrieving your account data.

If you’re still seeing this after 15 minutes, please visit our support page here"

Getting this when I log into my account. I'm unable to carry out any tasks like turn on auto renew. Just get an error message. Logged in on the app and in a browser. Been so for a few days now. I activated a new replacement sim card not long before this happened. Feel it might have something to do with it. Anyone experiencing similar?

The €12.99 plan now includes 5g coverage. No idea if older "for life" prices are also getting 5g.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,359 ✭✭✭davetherave

They have this in the terms and conditions

    30. 5G Access

You can use 5G as a 48 customer only if:

       a) if you have a 5G ready phone. and;

       b) are on the €12.99 All Data, All Calls, All Texts plan (Subject to monthly fair usage of 200GB, 5000 minutes and 5000 texts). and;

       c) subject to you being in a 5G coverage area (see https://48.ie/coverage-checker for coverage details). The coverage checker is a guide and is not a guarantee of signal coverage. Outside of 5G coverage areas you will get 4G coverage in areas with 4G coverage (see https://48.ie/coverage-checker for coverage details).

       d) 5G roaming is enabled where available in destinations outside of Ireland.

       e) 48’s 5G service may be affected by a number of factors including but not limited to the number of people using the 5G service, maintenance and upgrades, faults from other networks, the weather, other environmental factors, or degradation.

       f) Your price plan data allowance or add-on data allowance and any out of allowance data usage will be used for all different types of mobile data available to you (for example 3G/4G/5G/areas).

    And this on the forum

    9. As an existing customer on a different plan, how can I access 5G?

As a current customer on another plan, to enjoy 5G services, you'll need to upgrade to the €12.99 plan at your next renewal date. Simply Login to your My48 or click here

A reminder that if you upgrade to the €12.99 plan, you won’t be able to return to your previous plan.

What's up with 48's website and app lately. Seem to be permanently off.

  • Registered Users Posts: 248 ✭✭Sn@kebite

The app didn't work for last 3 days for me. Seems to be ok for me now.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,302 ✭✭✭robwen

Clicked on the app just now when I saw the posts here & I had to update it to get in, but working fine when I did update

Daytime speeds of 2mbs for the last few months here. 50 mbs in the early hours so that means handset SIM card and settings are all good I presume. I don't rely on it for work or anything but surely the speeds should be better than that. There's a mast a mile away as the crow flies.

Customer service just want me to check settings or sent me a new SIM card or both. I'm guessing my only option is to change provider at this stage.

  • Registered Users Posts: 19,694 ✭✭✭✭cnocbui

Might be your tower is congested. I'm rural and that was with only 2 bars signal strength, not to mention a non Irish server.

  • Registered Users Posts: 230 ✭✭Banjo Carney

Yes I expect congestion is the problem as it's ok in the early hours of the morning. I don't think they're going to do anything about that though

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,864 ✭✭✭Simi

Try limiting to 4G under 'Preferred network type'. May seem counter intuitive but I get higher download speeds with 5G disabled. Could just be my phone has janky 5G or a signal strength issue.

  • Registered Users Posts: 230 ✭✭Banjo Carney

Hi thanks for your reply. 5G isn't available so it's set to 4G

Does anyone have an old SIM card on the €7.99 or €10.99 a month deal? Looking to buy one off anyone that has one!

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,811 ✭✭✭✭flazio

What about the name and address attached to that old SIM? Doubt 48 would just accept a new name and address and just honour the old price.

  • Registered Users Posts: 463 ✭✭Spn744

You can change that in settings, €7.99 price plan is valid for accounts that have previously had the deal!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,295 ✭✭✭beachhead

The price might be available on the simcard if it was activated at e7.99 and kept topped up.Someone can tell me what is the max period that 48 allow between top ups.I'm on 70 days now.It could be 90 or even 150 as with Vodafone
