I look after a gorgeous silver blue coloured whippet and was getting out of the car at a layby in the road between Lisdoonvarna and Fanore I bring him fishing sometimes as he loves lying there watching me casting out from the limestone flat rock's. He sniff's around and loves jumping from rocks the rock.. and gets excited when I catch a fish.
One evening an English couple stopped chatting with me, and admired the dog and started asking for directions, then the conversation progressed to where I lived and worked etc.
I told them Im up from Kerry and camping, I could smell a rat...

House break in last night in Tipperary to take a dog. Owner seriously assaulted trying to stop them.

Another dog stolen in the same area.

Tipperary Gardai launched appeal.

17 dogs and guns and other proceeds of crime recovered earlier this week in a raid on a travellers camp near London.

It is time that this is tackled head on.

Wouldn’t be a great surprise if some of those dogs were stolen by their cousins in Ireland . Travellers are serious players in the drugs in the south east of the UK . Outside of Dublin travellers control huge swaths of rural Ireland’s drug trade .

The site in question, Star Lane, is a Gypsy site, not a traveller site. Gypsies and Travellers are 2 separate ethnic groups.

Calling a Traveller a Gypsy is the equivalent of calling an Irish person a brit.

I do find it amusing that the British press always try to claim good Irish are Brits and thenn when Gypsies are highlighted in the press as doing something bad they are Travellers. The Gypsy that got killed in London robbing the old man, he would be from this site

Gypsies and Travellers rarely mix and to be honest I actually know of this site. It has such a bad rep no Travellers would live on it. Bromley Council have not gone near it in years and they actually have responsibility for it

Dog theft is no hoax and it has risen substantially this year.

The hoax is people think a chalk marking (in a country with a lot of rain) or a cable tie (yep, they shine like a beacon on dark nights ) is a sign of a theft is about to happen. - That's the laughable hoax spread by fakebook and believed by people who simply cannot think independently and see how ridiculous such a suggestion is.

But definitely more dogs are being stolen as just like anything else, some people will pay over the odds and not question where the dog came from and also the punishment for dog theft is quite minor

You saw a drone in the sky, someone whistled at 3am and there was a random mark on a house.

The human brain looks for patterns and connects things. There is no house marking, dognapping conspiracy.

I saw a post in another thread that they were using fireworks to find dogs. (Hence all the fireworks recently)

BTW - if you are in Dublin, drive down Bird Avenue, there are HUNDREDS of cable ties there - marking every lamp post and 2 weeks ago there were chalk marking outside loads of houses.

Then Gas Networks came along, did the work they wanted to do and left. No dogs taken.

I doubt it, because there isn't one.

I never said dogs weren't being stolen, what I'm saying is there's no 'house marking, drone flying, people whistling at 3am to locate dogs' conspiracy - that's just lunacy.

Of course the Garda are going to tell people to take things like 'house markings' seriously if they see them. If you see something that you perceive to be unusual or our of the ordinary they'll tell you to report it.

Whether or not the house marking is a cartel about to invade your home based on a piece of chalk or a random kid drawing X's on people's homes is another thing...

Person captured a video of it (drone) scouting their dog kennell and back garden in Kildare which was taken seriously by Gardai.

Another person who knows more than the Gardai. If Gardai are requesting people to take this type of behaviour seriously, it is not down to you to tell them differently.

I saw the drone at 3am - and heard the whistling (as did others). While other people saw the car casing the place. It is not your place to call me a liar.

You are aware that drones have been used to steal cars? And that dog theft is now serious organised crime, so it plausible that the criminals would seek the same opportunities?

Well, as I said above - if Guards are taking it seriously, not sure why you would be going out of your way to discredit them.

One woman had the cables and a van watching and came back to see a white van reversing up her driveway, open the van, which had dog crates inside chained to the wall and he proceeded to call her dogs over to him.

Numerous people here on this post have stated they have seen the cable ties/marks in their area. About five posts up you responded to a poster that the cable ties were a hoax. This poster earlier in the thread had given a personal example of cable ties being seen in their area.

People here have stated they have heard whistling to attract their dogs.

Personally I have seen a drone in my area and I have heard the whistling. At the same time as suspicious characters were spotted.

Gardai/Community Text alert areas across the country have issued warnings about markings.

Here is a Detective advising of Cable Ties being used to mark houses in Kildare and what they are seeing in reality.

Unfortunately, many dogs are being stolen from Kildare. Pippa and Dora are just two high profile ones. This is a warning to people to be proactive with their security. The Gardai here clearly state that have first hand experience of cable ties being used, but some random person on boards knows better than the Gardai and declares peoples concerns as a hoax.

What you are actually doing is discouraging people from reporting what could be suspicious behaviour. Reporting that behaviour raises awareness and may result in someone's pet being protected, which is more important than a need to feel superior over others.
