he wasn't at home watching it 😁 so someone fed him bs for whatever reason

People in general really need to be less gullible…

    I'm partial to your abracadabra,

I'm raptured by the joy of it all.

I don’t know what game Eoin went to with a great atmosphere but I can assure him it wasn’t Ireland-Finland.

Considering he was there, and you're an Internet WUM, I'm going to have to side with Eoin's opinion on this one, pal.

One of the few times Id agree with you. Aviva was dead for most of the game. Thought it was an odd comment but maybe just where I was sitting

I was there too. Wouldn't say the atmosphere was amazing. Eoin was probably buzzing having his son there with him celebrating the win. Lovely experience for him

    Heimir out, I guess

Hard to even get worked up when these diabolical performances have been so regular since Kenny was gifted the job.

You're aware there's an Ireland England thread and an Ireland thread in general? This thread is about Second Captains and not just random sport opinions.

I'd imagine Ken will get worked up about the non-penalty in the first half. Guess we will never know if we coulda held on.

hope they get Damien Delaney back tomorrow but no chance they will.

He can explain how a ten that drops into a six or a full back that joins the midfield in possession could have kept it to 4-0

The November riots last year were not "right wing" despite being characterised as such by our media and establishment. Go back and listen to Ken's description of what he witnessed on the pod released the day after - he described the participants in the riot as akin to a Benetton ad.

Looks like we're gonna get Where is George Gibney levels of advertising for this new Cover pod. Genuinely the more I hear the ads, the less I wanna watch it, out of spite. I hope the ads stop from next week (by the way - no problem with the odd advertisement here and there, but constant ones are annoying).

How are Kenny loyalists finding the brass neck to email in after we all witnessed their collective insanity and detachment from reality in technicolour over the last three or four or forty years of Stephen Kenny’s transition year project reign?

Mark's narration style in the trailer is kinda putting me off it. He's trying a narration style that doesn't really land, unless its just for the trailer. I'll give it a listen all the same though

he’s on the indo sports podcast. I listened to it. I don’t know what to make of him. I’ve never heard someone who talks about systems so much and the actual talent and strengths of the respective football teams so little.

Sadlier delivered another classic answer a question with a question on second captains ; asking Eoin what it means to “give up”. Some man.

I enjoy Damien Delaney but it can all feel a bit numberwang when he's on.

The debate and outrage over Ferguson's penalty was tedious and dragged on way too long.

Delaney is perfectly fine and better than the likes of Dion and Miguel who just want to moan the whole time. They should just preface every segment with the disclaimer “we live in a society” and force them to actually talk about the news.

On the sport we’re actually good at, the lads groupthinking into pretending Crowley had a good game is some nonsense.

If Sam doesn’t get the start against Fiji and make a claim to be the 10 a combination of Crowley’s inability to do anything consistently with the ball at his feet and Frawley’s big, plodding nothingness is going to cost us a three in a row Six Nations where we have a DOA Borthwick England in Dublin and the only other challenger in France also at home.

And as Gerry points out, Faz clearly knows Crowley’s play isn’t good enough and is trying to get Sam up to speed as fast as possible. It’d be better if Simon, Eoin and Shaggy didn’t do the cheerleading routine when the facts are staring them in the face on this. Every player can’t be the answer.

Delaney is a bit too moany, Miguel is a bit too self-righteous, and Dion is a bit too dour.

Just give Ken a couple of Budweisers and a pack of fags and let him off the leash for the hour.

Agreed. The rugby coverage is very pally. They need need an outside voice who's willing to say such and such a player played sh1te/isn't up to it.

Talking in circles about their positive attributes etc etc is very tedious. In all the years I'm listening to Irish commentary on it, has anyone ever actually said Ross Byrne isn't close to good enough (I feel a bit bad because I'm always picking on him but he's the prime example in this case)? The Irish rugby community is too small not to have an outside voice on.

Really not sure why you feel the need to defend the motives of scumbags, but it absolutely was right wing, "get them out" and attacking an asylum centre. What happened after, looting runners, was opportunism - not defensible either, but to pretend that the whole thing was just a bunch of lads out for a bit of excitement is delusional in the extreme.

He’s trying to be dramatic and portentous but I agree it doesn’t really suit him. He was better back on the pod when he was more light hearted and sarcastic

Sadlier is a great man for that type of thing alright.

"Football?...what exactly do you mean by football in this context?"

On a separate note, as people are talking about it, can we all just accept that we'll definitely be getting a weekly push towards Cover? We're going to hear the theme music and a 1-2 minute highlight reel every week. Actually, probably more than once a week. I mean, let's just accept that that's going to happen. Let's not be too shocked, that's all.

I guess I'll have to accept and not be surprised when people complain about it multiple times per week also.

I do think it's going to be interesting though. Possibly more so than the Gibney one as it's probably a bit more far reaching and relevant to our history and future.

Ken had a bit of a swipe at Murph today going on about himself in relation to a growth spurt when they were discussing Brian Fenton. It didn't sound jokey. Murph has an annoying habit of sidetracking interviews to make something about himself, he did it when they interviewed the Tipp camogie player Eimear Ryan last year about her book. Was good he was put in his place but it made me feel a bit uncomfortable the way Ken did it!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,208 ✭✭✭jones

I think it was just the usual banter between them to be honest and it's what I'm here for. It was classic

How in the name of Jesus did the logic go when it came to bumping Katie winning an all-timer of a fight for an emergency pod on a Dublin player retiring?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,668 ✭✭✭atilladehun

Yep, complaining about it was far worse than the ads.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 736 ✭✭✭bamayang

Paul Flynn is an awful man to exaggerate everything. Saying Dublin might now struggle to win Leinster without Fenton, come out of the fog.

In lieu of Second Captains covering the biggest Irish sporting event of the weekend, there’s a very good mini-pod from The 42 with the two Gavins about Katie’s fight.
