boards seemed to do something weird to the links. If it doesn't open for you copy the address text and paste it into a tab and it will open. It's boards using skimresources.com that seems to be not playing nice with it.

During the payment stage after you added it to the cart. You will get an option to add a coupon.

Worked for me first time with Revolut card, no problems getting for that price either. I'm interested to see how it performs vs Firestick too, the Mi box is a great piece of kit so expecting similar results here.

Ya I'm asking for his friend too.

Can you download a VPN and other apps like BBC iPlayer?

You can download either from the official android os playstore which has plenty of options or 3rd party app stores like aptoide. All apps in the official android os playstore work great as they are optimised for the android TV os but any app that is not there you can usually get from aptoide and usually work reasonably ok.

All the major vpns have Android TV os apps so no worries there. BBC iPlayer would be not in your playstore as you have an Irish account but can be got via aptoide. The iPlayer app isn't great without an air mouse so I usually just have the VPN connected to the UK on the box and then open the iPlayer app on my phone and choose to cast from there. This works perfectly and obviously as it's casting and not just mirroring the screen you can do what you want with the phone when it's playing. The phone really just acts as a remote control or sends the command to the box to open the particular stream from bbc.

Here's a look at the initial setup and through the menus.

It comes with Netflix, amazon prime, youtube etc preinstalled but they are really only the tip of the iceberg. With a vpn you can access content from around the world, not to mention you can sideload on apps or get all sorts from Aptoide. The box is very capable of running various IPTV services etc. I don't want this thread being closed so go and do some research on google about all this box can do.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,321 ✭✭✭sham69

am tempted but have 2 mi boxes already and a mi tv which i assume will run faster than the stick as the stick only has 1gb ram (boxes and tv have 2gb)
Might get one for the kids rooms though as I am sucker for xiaomi stuff.
    Thanks op..

Any of the Asian electronics shops in Dublin sell these?

Probably not so soon because it was only released a few weeks ago. If they do you can be sure they will be charging €50 plus for it. Some would probably have the Xiaomi mi box s which is essentially the same thing in box form instead of stick.

title on the dh site says 4k HDR but output resolution on the specs says FHD or 1080p
is this 4k stick or just HD stick?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,654 ✭✭✭Mad_Mike

    It's definitely only 1080p and not 4K

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,420 ✭✭✭✭sligojoek

Tried TSB, Ulster Bank, AIB and Revolut.

No joy with any of them.

    Any workarounds?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,211 ✭✭✭✭Suckit

This has been on sale for the same price on aliexpress for around 3 weeks ish.
The 2GB/4K version is apparently coming out soon..

There is supposed to be a 4K version of this launching soon so it could be a mix up on the sellers behalf but I doubt it.

I'm personally holding out for the 4K version, differences will be a better quad core processor, 2GB of RAM and USB-C for power. Rumoured price is about €79.

Tried twice with Mastercard credit card and was refused. Didn't even get to the verification page

Worked first time with UB Visa Debit though

I'll try again with UB. If no joy I'll forget it.
It's 24e with eglobal but they want 20 postage on order below 50.

tried revolut, asked me to confirm the purchase through the revolut app, did that and then it was declined. tried my PTSB credit and debit cards and both were declined. after the revolut attempt the discount code could no longer be applied.
pity, looks a good alternative to the firestick

If you use Gmail you can set up a new account with dhgate and just insert a full stop somewhere in your address, you will still receive the email but dhgate will accept it as new and you can use the code again.

    Joebloggs@gmail.com
    Joe.bloggs@gmail.com
    Joeb.loggs@gmail.com

    You get the idea.

Perhaps trying enabling online transactions in your revolut app if it's not already on?

Argos Ireland sell firesticks (not 4k version) they aren't on the site, and I'm guessing it's because they're technically not supposed to be selling them here, but they 100% have them in their stores.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 111 ✭✭tglynn

Just a note, this worked with my Visa revolut card but wouldn't work on my mastercard revolut card. both on the same account. Maybe that's the issue for some people?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,420 ✭✭✭✭sligojoek

I gave up and signed up for Skrill. With their 1% charge it still came up as under €27

    Thanks OP

Cheers I didn't think to check their shops, I ordered it on Currys.ie yesterday, why are Argos so cagey, Curry's have it on their Irish site, is it not legal?

Log in and check the payment status in the account. The email might refer to items you added to the cart previous times.
