Do you find Sacha Baron Cohen Funny?

He might not be everyone's cup of tea.

The only comedian to impersonate a white man ..impersonating a black man ..and no blackface was involved.

Or do you think he insulted people and went too far?

He has an amazing ability to make me both laugh and cringe at the same time. He's a very smart guy, and close to comedy genius at times.

Some of his early Ali G stuff (not the flim) and Bruno were up among my favourites of all time.
Don't care if it's immature or offensive, it's hilarious.

More hit and miss with his later works though.

    Has he ‘apologised’ for Ali-G?

It took me years to appreciate him. When I first saw Ali-G I did not know he was played a character and was kind of aware of him in the background not something I sought out to watch. Borat was a revelation. I'd love to see him do an Irish theme, I'd say we would hate it and love it.

He's very good. Even The Dictator, which wasn't particularly good, was still an enjoyable watch. He is also very good in The Spy which is a serious film where he plays a Jewish spy in some Muslim country, Iran or Egypt I think

His 'Kazakh' is hebrew and i am pretty sure he uses yiddish in that clip.:D

Maybe he will make a parody apology.

Maybe he will make a parody apology.

Yeah as a Jewish guy parody of a Muslim Trump acolyte.

Ali G and Borat were very good.

    Bruno, not so much.

But yeah, he's a funny guy.

it wouldve been interesting to see him as Freddie Mercury, as it was initially him and not Remi Malek, but i think queen didnt want him to turn it into a r rated movie

Him as Jared Kushner would be better.

I used to love Ali G. The Borat movie is class and he's excellent in the spy. His R rated version of Freddie Mercury would've been great to see as well. If nothing else he's bumping uglies with Isla Fisher so hat tip to him!

Ali G and Borat were genius.

Didn't care much for Bruno but this clip is up there with his Ali G or Borat stuff.

Borat is the most I’ve ever laughed in the cinema. My stomach hurt from laughing.
    Yes. And handsome.

Yeah, he IS handsome. I’ve never really thought about that before because he’s usually in character when I’m watching him.

that would make it even better.

it wouldve been interesting to see him as Freddie Mercury, as it was initially him and not Remi Malek, but i think queen didnt want him to turn it into a r rated movie

    There are two stories:
The first is Sacha Baron Cohens: He met the remaining members of Queen and they told him all the stories we never heard. Sacha said cool lets make story. Queen said no you cant make that story!!!! Sacha said Try and stop me. They said fine, but you will have to make it without the music for the sound track.......... Then Baron-Cohen realise "****!" Baron Cohen has spent about a year method acting being Freddie Mercury. Imagine poor Isa Fisher waking up to next to Freddie Mercury for a year?!?!? All that effort wasted.

The second story is that Queen didn't like where Baron-Cohen was going and he wanted to totally sensationalise it.

What was the truth? There was no way Queen was cool with Freddies lifestyle and were understanding that he was HIV positive. So I guess the truth was somewhere in between. I believe bands have high hi's and low lo's and tempers were more fraught and they well knew about Freddies peccadilloes

I'm particularly fond of the time the anthem from Borat was accidentally used in real life at medal awarding ceremony.

I think he's funny, others don't, however, nobody can deny that he's balls of steel. Here's a clip of Borat singing a spoof version of the Kazakhstan anthem to the tune of the Star-Spangled Banner in front of a hostile US rodeo audience.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,357 ✭✭✭The White Wolf

Ali G was peak Sacha I think. Pulled off some amazing strokes without the gross out moments of Borat (still easily his second best creation) and Bruno.

When he sticks to the artful takedown such as with "Throw the Jews down the Well" no one living really touches him. That's why it amazes me that the same bloke will give us utter bollox like The Brothers Grimsby. I can only assume such ventures are purely for the pay cheque.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,239 ✭✭✭Jimbob1977

    His characters are amazing.

He has a remarkable ability to convince his interviewees that he's a legitimate journalist, e.g. Jacob Rees Mogg, Boutros Boutros Boutros Boutros Ghali, Tony Benn, etc.

    Ali G
    Borat
    Bruno

People are jealous of his success because they have inferior potassium.

    The Kazakh anthem was genius.

Do you find Sacha Baron Cohen Funny?

The latest show Who is America, was funny alright. This politician lost his job on account of his behaviour on the show (he was up for re-election and dropped out of the race on account of the backlash). It really shows how some people hold such far out views.

It’s a weird one... she’s well.. stunning and well he’s... Sacha Barron Cohen

Bit of the ‘odd couple’ about that one in every aspect.

He's a funny ****er when in character, not so much out of character.

He's very well educated, he's funny, he takes the piss out of everyone, from left wingers to right wingers his comedy is very much so equal. If your stupid enough to fall for it :pac: then your fair game.

As for AliG he was never really white and he was never really black he looked like a middle eastern who wanted to be a rude boy.

Yup Masters in Communications from London School of Economics.
He is from a Persian Jewish family.
Check out his Uncle Professor Simon Baron Cohen an expert in Higher functioning Autism, aka Aspergers. That explains a lot.

Like all brilliant comedians he's had hits and not so hits.
When he hits he's belly ache funny. It must be incredibly difficult to reinvent himself as a new character that doesn't rehash jokes.
I like him. Balls of fcucking steel!

I think he's a very good looking man, a very smart man, and a very funny man. He's also an exceptional straight actor, as anyone who has watched the Netflix show Spy will agree. He's extremely audacious and has pulled off some very clever stunts, and I've liked most of his output with the major exception of that Grimsby mess. An exceptionally talented person.

Yes, he's very funny, but also very clever. Incredible talent, probably genius.

Not that it really matters in the context of his brilliance, but for those implying he's out if his league with Isla in terms of looks - he's a very good looking man.
