Not a fan of the IFA by any means, but would talk to them they are well aware of what’s going on there and are involved on the ground with lots of problems and you shouldn’t lose money because of TB which you didn’t infect your animals and most importantly look after your health as this can wreck your head, we have lots experience of TB.

yes for definite he should contact IFA… like you im not a fan in general… but they put us onto a guy who was very very good… and he made us aware of our rights etc..

The 3 factories can give what they like. I had an experience with 3 fr bullocks about 3 years ago that went down. Had agent to look at other cattle that were fit and to glance an eye over these 3 reactors. He said they were well fit and should be grading O's and at worse 3- for fat cover.

Kill sheet comes back and line behold all grade P= or P- and the best fat cover was 2=. All paid a crap price from the factory at approx 1/3 of there value had they no been reactors. Differing balance was funded by DAFM. A lot of folks feathering there own pocket on this gravy train bar the farmer

There is provision for retention of treated animals in the TB rules, however it will mean extending the period of restriction. Have had this issue before and its an inconvenience but workable. In our case we held stock until the date passed, sent to factory when ready, and were paid compensation in full. No hassle once it was talked through with DVO.

Full compensation will be paid after the period elapses.

now it is 13 years ago but when we went down around this time of year in 2011.. think it was 140 reactors that we had the 1st time.. cattle ended up staying on the farm for a full 6weeks after test had been completed… so the treatment being dished out to Jay is total bolloxing

It's worse now In some countys neighbours Had cattle on farm for 8 weeks no explanation.... he enquired at the finish and someone was on holidays........... apparently

Letter printed 20 years ago in the IFJ about the Dept's approach to TB: "the scheme has only eradicated billions of pounds" and "many farmers"

Don’t take the bait, reactors are always less than normal cattle price wise, and a lot of factories don’t want the work that goes with reactors on kill line and offal etc to be kept separate.

I was going to post my friends return sheet, 1.50 Inc vat. But I changed my mind.

It's better for you to believe that the meat factory will give better money for reactors. Hopefully you will never find out.

If you have 11 reactors you have TB in the herd unfortunately, so best to face up to it. 40 years makes no odds.

You will get compensated once the withdrawal period passes and the animals leave so no need to go to war on that. Were they treated after the notification to test was received?

The milk advisor knows the rules on milk assembly and is under no obligation to know the DAFM compensation rules so that is largely irrelevant. All the rules are on the DAFM website for yo to know yourself, which of course you know already.

He won't get paid that quick from the dept for animals.

Had animals go four months ago and not a cent from dept yet.

Have you sent in your disinfection certs? They won't pay out until they're in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,539 ✭✭✭✭Say my name

No that's what I'm missing. I'm still working on it. Have one shed still occupied.

If all 11 failed because of the Severe interpretation rule and weren’t clear failures it doesn’t mean there is TB in the herd

What kind of cost do people run into to hire in someone to clean and disinfect to required standard?

How much of this is recoupable?

This bolloxing on boards for new posts not appearing on a new page till there's a few new posts is fair annoying

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 328 ✭✭grass10

When you are notified of a test you get several sheets of paper with dos and don't this has been sent out with many years and included in this list is no dosing to be done where the animal is still under withdrawal at test time if you have not adhered to this rule you have broken the rules and no point making an enemy of dept officials also in relation to valuation all drystock are only valued at the value they would sell live on the day the dairy man seems to get special treatment getting a valuation for dairy cows on their potential of what their milking value will be in the future

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,539 ✭✭✭✭Say my name

No special treatment. Valuer has the same valuation sheet that's sent out to the farmer. It's the interpretation on how much it would cost to buy the same animal at auction with the pedigrees and milk yield taken into account.

A screw cow will make screw cow price regardless of enterprise.

They go on average herd milk yield and scc if not milk recording. Three teats, lameness, condition, appearance, ebi, etc.

were you not the same poster got their knickers in a twist when it was mentioned that lorry drivers turn the washer on the bulk tank?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,735 ✭✭✭Finty Lemon

That's usually it. They will pay out once the cert or the deferral request is sent in.

For anyone who does defer, be careful to have the disinfection cert ready for when your test to go clear is done.

You won't be able to sell until its processed, even after your clear test. That's a killer on the day you go clear, you'd be ready to go but the herd is locked up until cert in. One to watch for.

Good luck to anyone navigating TB for the first time. It takes a few goes to learn the ropes and is wicked frustrating.

I’ll let you know next week …getting someone to do cow sheds (cubicles/feed area /slats ….

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,735 ✭✭✭Finty Lemon

I'm afraid it does. The probability of 11 reactions even if severe interpretation is tiny, I would say.

More likely that lax interpretation in previous tests is coming home to roost.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,879 ✭✭✭straight

It's called replacement value I'd imagine. Not much point in valuing a dairy cow on weight alone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 328 ✭✭grass10

I fully agree its called replacement value and that's what it should be be I am constantly listening to lads gloating about they are after getting 2200 to 2500 per cow for bog standard milking cows when at the same time you could pay the top price at any dairy sale and not spend anything near that whereas a 1 yo steer goes down and all you get is mart value on the day what I wrote may not be popular but its the truth

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,792 ✭✭✭✭mahoney_j

agree with this …my test was on severe enterpetation due to neighbours big out break …not doubting jay but 11 inconclusive animals and no reactors wouldn’t happen ….I’d just class them as reactors …..my 3 went yesterday ….Dvo has been wushy washey in how he dealt with me …no blood tests was done on reactors ….I asked about blood testing herd …no chance …then throw in lax situation with badger set ….if you ask me there hands are tied ….loads of reactors and big breakdowns and funds getting tight I’d say

You are as bad as the daiymann poster just phishing and ye know it all.

I got from 950 to 1800 for cows.

They'll only give replacement value. And then you are at the loss of milk sales and sale of stock from being locked up.

Factory you'll get 300 and 400 for cow stock that'd make 1200 to 1600 normally in factory.

I have a relation a sheep and tillage farmer. He's the greatest expert on dairy farming. He gets his information from those winding him up. You try to correct him but he wouldn't believe you.
