For the uneducated, what are the main points with dynamic pricing, will it be a good or bad thing for us?

I tend to charge my battery at night and sell most of what I produce back to the grid.

good news if implemented fairly, and based on the CEG payment implementation, I'm moderately optimistic. would finally be able to utilise myenergi's dynamic price tracking feature, possibly?! 🤔

The people able to leverage the dynamic pricing will do very well.

Octopus in the UK seems to be the only one doing it over there. And there's different levels of dynamic-ness

Am I correct in saying the FIT will not be dynamic under the same contract? The paper only seemed to talk about importing electricity

hmm, as solar PV generators, we both buy and sell in the market, dunno

After reading Bord Gais, Electric Ireland's and the Electricity Association Of Ireland's response to the start date I'm not so sure if it will be next year but who knows.

I suppose I should spin this out into its own thread.... Anyway

I've skimmed most of the paper.

What I understand is that there will be 3 factors,

    Standing charge,

    Base rate

    Dynamic charge,

So the unit price (kWh) will be base rate + dynamic charge.

On the day ahead rate, there is a cap of €0.50/kWh. There is no price floor, can go negative. On SEMOpx https://www.semopx.com/

Suppliers over 200k customers have to have a dynamic plan before 1st Oct 2025.

    The five suppliers are Bord
Gáis Energy, Electric Ireland, Energia, PrePay Power/Yuno and SSE Airtricity.

    No mention of export.

Hi, can I ask if you are still getting your FIT payment, as I believe ESBN have stopped it to old meters reversing & now require houses with PV panels to have a Smart Meter before FIT is payed?

I'm in same boat, PV installed 2023, 2000 units clocked back.

ESBN just received my NC6 this August & want to put in a SM, but I'll loose my units if they do this?

I Don't give negative readings to supplier.

I never received any due to not getting a smart meter. It's still better for me at the minute to keep the old meter but that might change in the future. Deemed export was stopped in September 2023 AFAIK so apart from the odd one I've seen getting it with old meters the majority are not. Have a look at this thread where a member mentions it the other day, Post #40.

You'll get screwed by esbN, when I changed providers I took photos of my meter readings and submitted them, a few months later I got a SM installed and esbN wrote to my old and new provider with totally made up readings, basically they said that it was impossible for me to have so little usage in the few months between starting with a new provider and getting the SM install (that I dickied the readings).

I had photos to prove my readings were legit, I also have a large battery pack so use virtually no day units and a combination of my wifes car (EV) off the road and being out of the country was the reason for little night usage (plus my battery was powering the gaff at night also).

Both my providers told me that esbN have made the call and they have no say in the matter, I made a casual enquiry to esbN and there is no "appeal" process.

Cost me guts of €100 but more in time lost and frustration in trying to figure out what happened as esbN told me nothing about it or made any contact with me whatsoever.

    Via email from EI today:

From 1st November 2024, Electric Ireland will be reducing the Microgeneration rate from 21c to 19.5c per kWh (unit of measurement for energy).

Just got it too. €1 a day for me 🙄

Well, I'm just out of contract, so……

Early days getting quotes for solar PV install and hoping to get them installed before Christmas. Our current energy provider is SSE (elec and gas) and they’re up for renewal in December. I mostly WFH and we’re looking to get an EV next year so with that said, is there a preferred energy provider by most on here? I’ve gone in to various comparison sites and Energia seems to be the one popping up

The Energypal.ie website is fantastic but it analyses you past consumption and if you are planning to stay the same consumtpion profile then thats good. But if you are planning to get an EV this will be by and far your biggest energy user (I see you dont have a Heat Pump) You will be able to shift all this load into the very low EV rates out there so you will have to make an educated decision, I moved to BG over a month ago and I was able to significantly move my consumption into this 3 hour window and BG is the cheapest for me.

But whack you HDF file into this site and see for yourself.

My consumption profile…but I have an EV and a Heat Pump that I schedule to heat hot water at this time..

Edit…They only pay the FIT rate twice a year ?? so you wont see savings on you PV monthly if thats a concern.

I recently switched electricity (11 Sep 2024) from SSE Smart Night Boost to Energia Smart Drive. I was with SSE since 27 July 2023, around the time I got Solar PV and began to export power.

Export from ESB Networks, and viewed on EnergyPal (SSE FIT rate changed from 24c to 19.5c on 1st Jul 2024)

    from 27 Jul 2023 - 31 Jun 2024 = ~3126 kWh at 24c / unit. = ~ €750
    from 1st Jul 2024 - 11 Sep 2024 = ~1129 kWh at 19.5c / unit = ~ €220

    This is ~ €950 (4245 kWh)

I have received two CEG payments from SSE so far.

    8/01/2024 payment of €259
    8/07/2024 payment of €215

    total of €474

I have been told I should get a forecast payment of ~ €372
(should be paid at end of Nov, although I had to wait until Jan previous)
This seems to be ~ €104 less than I should receive…

Anyone else identify differences in what ESB Networks are showing (and displayed via EnergyPal date range) and what the providers are paying???

Import for the same time frame was 3682 kWh (over 413 days) - usage was ~8.9 kWh per day and ~10.3 kWh export

Just changed over to BGE for my electricity and I'm a little confused by their wording regarding feed in. My account says maximum feed in is 5kW. Am I correct in thinking that this is the maximum feed in rate/HR and not maximum amount that I can feed in per billing cycle? This is all new to me so it may be a silly question but I just need to be sure before the cooling off period ends and I'm tied in to the contract. Thanks for any advice.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,235 ✭✭✭con747

It's not per billing cycle. They only pay FIT twice a year so be sure your ok with that and they might not be the cheapest out there so make sure you check the below thread.

Yeah, I understand those aspects of the contract but am I limited to how much I can feed back to the grid? My assumption is that I can feed back as much as I like but not more than 5kW/HR?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,980 ✭✭✭✭the_amazing_raisin

WTF, how is that still a thing? Every other provider manages to do it per billing cycle

5kW constant output for one hour is 5kWh = 5 "units". The ESB's Microgeneration / NC6 form will define your system's limit. In theory you can feed back and get paid for your limit all day long if you have it to send. How close you get will depend on the sun, how many panels/inverter size, roof orientation, how much you use yourself, etc. There might be tax to pay if it makes you too much money.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,235 ✭✭✭con747

As said above, there is no limit how much you can export once the NC6 has been sent in with the inverter details so work away.

    Hi

I would appreciate some advice in relation to the microgeneration payment by my supplier. I had my solar panels installed last April and have yet to receive a CEG credit from SSE Airtricity. I emailed them several times and finally got a reply stating that the CEG would be on my January bill (I had been expecting it in my most recent bill received this week). They said I am due a payment of €54, yes just €54!. According to my smart meter, I've fed 1016 kw to the grid since April, and so at the 29.5c per kw rate I'm supposed to get from SSE, I should be getting a payment of €299.72. Are they trying to pull a fast one with this? I received an email from ESB Networks in May to state that they had received my NC6 form and certification and so it isn't the case that my system was never registered for the microgeneration scheme.

Can anyone advise if they have been offered a similar paltry amount by SSE?

    thanks
