    I think it’s ridiculous the backlog. Just bloody announce it when you have the figures

    There was 14 positive tests last 24 hours.

    So they were notified of 36 cases of which only 14 were tested in the last 24 hours?

    what's going on here with this backlog?

    People were swearing blind here yesterday there was no such thing as a weekend or Monday lag, even after the CMO said there was.
    There's no testing lag, positive tests are reported as normal. They're just not reporting them. The data is there for everyone to see.

    This is the 3rd time this has happened in the last 10 days, all 3 days were above 30.

    Nobody around here knows, but you will hear a lot spoofing with authority.

    I haven’t been following the R number but I did say it to somebody sitting beside me and they said surely the R number couldn’t be 6 as that would be a disaster.... so I’m glad that post you quoted was sarcasm!

    I'm saying there's a lag.

    You are saying there's a lag.

    So what's the problem?

    Journalists can be more excitable with bad news. There's not much of a news report with "only 6" and that can upset a crafted concerned narrative.

    I said they're not reporting them, that's not a natural lag, that's holding back data.
    9000 tests Sunday -> 6 cases reported
    6000 tests Monday -> 36 cases reported

    Its like was said yesterday by Glynn. Of the 270 reported cases in the last 14 days only 211 were in those 14 days. So where did the 59 cases come from and when did they occur and why were they included in the daily figures now.

    So theres clearly a lag in reporting somewhere again this week as there's not been 36 new cases found in the last 24 hours

    To be fair, we don't actually know why they aren't reporting them, it's all guesswork on all our parts.

    Delay/lag/holding back data - we're splitting hairs here.

    I know that's what happens but I'll never ever understand it. Just report the number of cases and no emotion good or bad.

    I agree we don't know but we should. This has only started happening in the last 2 weeks, as Stephen said above there's 59 extra cases just thrown into those figures according to the CMO.
    It's ridiculous honestly, the 24 hour figure should be reported, it's not giving the full truth to the regular public who wouldn't know anything about testing figures etc.

    Unless the HSPC have some specific criteria that needs to be verified in some manner before publicly reporting cases? It may be easy enough to count positive tests from the lab and update the dashboard within the same 24hrs or so, especially as it's just a total and no issues with denotifications or counting people twice.

    It may be that there's a lag over the weekend with case data being sent to HSPC and verified to ensure no double counting. Although they do still end up de-notifying some times. I'd bet it's an IT issue with various systems, likely with some human input/verification somewhere in the chain.

    The HCWs and clusters are added after contact tracing, usually 24/48hrs behind

    I don't know why no journalist has asked about this in the briefings yet. Basic stuff, they should be asking about it.

    Who'd have thunk the place with the biggest concentration of people has the biggest concentration of cases. Shocking.

    I think we need to stop caring about daily cases from now on tbh, I'm converted to the 7 day average :D only 17 cases per day over the last 3 days.

    I'm a numbers guy, always have been since school and I study statistics as part of my university degree.
    I'm really not a fan of how we're basically manipulating figures.
    We've had 58 positive tests in last 72 hours and 52 cases reported. These numbers line up, but our way of reporting them is not.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,780 ✭✭✭✭ninebeanrows

    The numbers are so off,

    It is like they save up to give a big number on one day to suit their narrative. It is really dodgy the delayed reporting of the cases, can some journo ask some hard questions and not pander to the constant negative stream.
