Been very happy with Airwire myself on Fixed Wireless - good updates on Twitter usually when things have gone down and customer service is pretty good.

If I ever get to switch to FTTH I'll likely just pay the extra and stick with them even though others have offers.

The only reservation I'd have is if you wanted the gigabit connection. There seems to be some capacity issues at exchanges for this

Has anyone else lost their FTTH connection with airwire this evening or is it just me?

Just got in the door and the wife was on the phone to support who had no fault reports but while I took over chatting to him more fault reports started to come in.Weird one as my Fritz box days active dsl.

Support guy said faults were arriving from Athlone and Clare Morris , I'm in monnasterevin but he said we are routed on same network.

Back here for me now , I'm on vdsl by the way.

Now thats what you call excellent support, wife got straight through to a sound Irish guy who was very helpful and super polite.

Problems with hardware in Athlone is a somewhat frequent problem. I don't believe they have redundancy that larger ISP's have.

The actual issue was not in Athlone, but it affected some exchanges that are terminated on the Athlone interconnect. About 5% of customers on that interconnect were affected.

So this has nothing to do with Athlone or not.

We simply moved the connection manually to a different interconnect until the problem was resolved.

And in regards to redundancy, we have doubled up on everything, but not every scenario can be failed over automatically, when you rely on a distribution network ran by another company. So we sometimes have to make these changes manually. More than often the outages are caused by problems within the OpenEIR network. But we will deal with them in a timely manner, where we can.

How did you test that ? Where did you test it to ? How are you connected to your router ?

Full ethernet, pings to various servers, speed tests to various servers.

    Netflix buffering etc
    Normally rock solid 100mb.

Yes, poor speeds and intermittent high latency, check your support emails.

Same for me last night, Xbox Live was all over the place with disconnects and Netflix just outright refused to load. Other streaming services were fine tho.

Didn't get a chance this morning to see if it was back to normal, hopefully sorted by this evening if not.

Seems to be working okay at the moment. Was getting disconnected on PC and PS4 until the early hours, every 4-5 minutes or so. Watching stuff on Twitch also kept throwing errors, along with a stream upload to YouTube having 99% dropped frames, which was at least interesting to watch in the stats monitor.

One of our upstream carriers is having issues, that resulted in 5 minute re-routing cycles on anything that went over that circuit.

We put a work around in place approx 10:30, which sorted that issue, but there is some more work to be done.

    edit :
Definitely getting back up to normal speeds now thanks guys.

I'm in Limerick and still seeing drops to 2-4 Mb/s every now and then, admittedly on wifi but I've never had any issues since it was installed in April. Going to try a wired test soon and if it's the same contact Airwire. Is email the best way to get them?

Yeah email is the best way, they are very quick to respond. Also in Limerick and everything was back to normal yesterday evening for me.

Speeds stuck at around 4Mb/s for an hour or so after posting but back to normal now. I was working so didn't get a chance to try anything or contact them but it's all good now.
