Can I ask do they still race on that airport runway somewhere ?

    Used to love that race.

Which one? There's been several airport courses. 😛

StPete still runs (airport front stretch), but Cleveland and Edmonton don't anymore.

    Thank you, it was Cleveland

Overtaking was great and they had a mad close finish one year.

Cleveland - fantastic track , wide allowing multiple racing lines

I remember Alex Zanardi coming through from the back of the grid after being penalised,to win - probably the greatest open wheel race I have ever watched.

Great to see Pato and McLaren getting their first win, looking good for Indy , chevys seem to have a fuel advantage over the Hondas.

O Ward, does he have any Irish heritage?

Was that 1997? Loved that track. And that was a great season of racing.
You used to be able to see the track layout on Google Earth.

As much as Tim O'Glock does :pac:

O Ward, does he have any Irish heritage?

Just googled there and is listed on a few articles as Irish- Mexican. Theres also a podcast where he explains his second name but I didn't listen to it.
There would be areas in Mexico that would hold a few Irish second names due to Los Patricios or 'Those of St Patrick' who went over from Ireland to fight for Mexico and ended up staying there.

Uncle Bobby had died, aged 87. His stories were brilliant.

Three podcast is an episode of the Marshall Pruitt podcast from early 2019. My podcast player says I listened to it, but I've no memory of it at all...

Anyway, this link says his great grandfather on his father’s side is Irish: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.presstelegram.com/2019/04/10/grand-prix-of-long-beach-patricio-oward-uses-boxing-to-punch-up-his-endurance/amp/

    Indy GP this weekend.

    FP1 Friday 2:30pm, FP2 Friday 6pm
Quali Friday 9:30pm. Race Saturday 7:30pm.

And then into Indy 500 practice next Tuesday week. Early signs are... no Sky coverage... :(

Okay, it's probably not due to my passive-aggressive tweeting at them, but I'm going to take credit for it anyway: SSF1 have added live practice coverage.

Sky listings are updating with Indy 500 practice! :D

    Tuesday 18th
    • Practice 1 & Rookie Orientation — 3-7pm
    • Practice 2 — 8-11pm
    Wednesday 19th
    • Practice 3 — 8:30-11pm
Unfortunately the start of that day's session (5-8:30) is being bumped off for the F1 show, the Monaco driver's press conference, and a repeat of the F1 show

    Thursday 20th
    • Practice 4 — 5-11pm
    Friday 21st
    • Practice 4 — 5-11pm
    Saturday 22nd
    • Quali 1 — 6-11pm
Missing the first hour of qualifying due to F2 feature race and Ted's notebook.

    Sunday unavailable yet.

    Grosjean takes pole!!

Brilliant! Hope he does well. Each of his times in Qualy were getting faster and faster. He's getting a handle on the car's performance.

Delighted for Grosjean, he is such a likeable chap. After everything he's been through between the ridicule and the accident, this is an incredible response.

Interesting race so far. Hard to know who's going to win this, and now the weather might make it more interesting.

Gutted for Grojean but fair play to Veekay

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,625 ✭✭✭Charlie-Bravo

Grosjean still learning but great job done otherwise. Hard tyres were a struggle for him but was turning great laps all race weekend on reds.

If he could've got by the lapped car it would have made things very interesting, especially with Veekay running low on fuel

Earlier initial runs will be better as they will avoid the heat of the middle of the afternoon. Later initial runs will likely have to go again later on to try make the Top 9/30.

After everyone gets their first run, it's a free-for-all for further runs. There will be two queues on pit lane - Line 1 gets priority before Line 2, but costs you your previous time to do so. Gun goes off at 10:50pm. Car on track at that point can complete the run.

Top 30 are locked into the race. Top 9 go again tomorrow at 7:30pm for the pole.

Bottom 5 go again at 6pm tomorrow in a 75-minute session. Unlimited runs are allowed, but you give up your previous time on every go. Best 3 make it into the race as the last row.

Looking forward to quali - Penske struggling again , Ganassi and fellow Honda teams - Rahal and Andretti looking good.

I have enjoyed Sky's coverage of qualifying during the week but missing the first hour of quali is dissapointing.

Will Power in big trouble here.

He's in the bottom five, and his first run was a stinker.
