    My votes in Bold.

Soft Cell - Tainted Love Vs The Slits - Heard it through the Grapevine - Quite like the first, as I always have, and have not heard the second.

Eric Clapton - Cocaine Vs Motorhead - Heroes - Both good, but have to go with my nomination. Cracker of a cover version.

Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah Vs Neil Young - All Along The Watchtower - It took a while, but I learnt to appreciate it. Did not hear Neil's take on that song.

Jimi Hendrix - All Along The Watchtower Vs Marilyn Manson - Sweet Dreams - Fantastic performance from Jimi. The second is passable.

Match 17: Soft Cell (my nomination and a classic!!)
Match 18: Eric Clapton (not a fan of heavy metal)
Match 19: Jeff Buckley (one of the many great covers of this song)
Match 20: Marilyn Manson (Manson has some great covers, I was also tempted to include his version of Tainted Love in my list)

2025 gigs: Selofan, Alison Moyet, Wardruna, Gavin Friday, Orla Gartland, The Courettes, Scissor Sisters, Nine Inch Nails, Rhiannon Giddens, New Purple Celebration, Nova Twins

    Soft Cell - Tainted Love
Surely this goes without saying? The better song

    Eric Clapton - Cocaine
I like the motorhead cover but it's not as good as the original, I didn't know cocaine was a cover, it wins here for me,

    Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah
Just live listening to him sing this.

    Marilyn Manson - Sweet Dreams
I like this better then the original

One for Hendrix. Love Leonard Cohen, but can't bring myself to vote for Buckley's cover.
And one for Clapton, I guess - didn't realise it was a cover!

You do realize that it is Neil Young's version of All Along The Watchtower that is up against Jeff Buckley! Jimi's one is up against Marilyn Manson! Just in case...!

Soft Cell - Tainted Love. Great version, just missed out on being one of my nominations.

Motorhead - Heroes. Never knew they did a version, really enjoyed it.

Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah. Almost as good as the original.

Jimi Hendrix - All Along The Watchtower. The definitive version.

    Soft Cell - Tainted Love
    Eric Clapton - Cocaine
Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah - God Damn this is a tough one, love Neil Young and All along the watchtower is one of my all time favourite songs. But Buckleys cover of Hallelujah is iconic
Jimi Hendrix - All Along The Watchtower - AATW gets in the second time of asking

Votes above. One Grapevine version is enough and the best one has gone through already.

I wonder if anybody nominated the 11 minute long Creedence version? It's good, but still not as good as Marvin Gaye.

Soft Cell - Tainted Love ; big fan of this version of the song

Eric Clapton - Cocaine ; tune

Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah ; was overplayed far too much for a few years, but its great

Marilyn Manson - Sweet Dreams ; this made my shortlist, but just missed the cut, glad to see it in here anyway.

Ah man, that could have been the final!
I love Jimi but have to go for Manson, it's one of those covers that makes you hear the lyrics anew, it captures the essence of them better than the original. It's a truly amazing song

You were in time for Talking Heads. Kolido's post was above yours - it needed one more vote!
