I don't think the distance you can travel will be in place beyond the first period. It's probably only being extended to keep a lid on things as we start to ease restrictions. #staythecourse

That would be great and much more sensible.

No CMO briefing today just Leo’s announcements.

So effectively no opportunity for the media to question well anything at all today of all days!

Well apart from Tubridy on the late late show, Id say Leo is bricking it waiting on the grilling and hard questions that’s going to come out of that?

If they are doing 3 week periods and extending it by 2km to 5, to 10, to 20, to 50 - it will be August by the time people see friends / family. That is completely unacceptable. There needs to be some caveats in this.

I am sure the virus worries about caveats.......If they open up things too quickly then I can see this virus running wild through the population,

Based on my (albeit relatively limited) experience in my immediate neighbourhood and between home and the local shops, I’m not sure many over 70s have been cocooning. I’ve seen loads out and about so not sure that change will amount to much

Pretty much a copy and paste job.

Stay at home except for exercise or essential journeys.

I'm glad the press conference has been cancelled. The journos have been absolutely abysmal up to now, and those being questioned must be heartily sick of it by now.

There is little to explain really, we are following other countries apart from Sweden of course, we have to wait and see how they fare with unlocking the restrictions with an eye on our own ability to cope hospital wise. I do realise that many will disagree with me, but at this stage having gone through six or so weeks of restrictions, it would be madness to unlock the genie too quickly.

Let's wait and see what the Taoiseach says. He is not doing this to punish us but to protect us. And I am no FGer either, but we have to support the Government of the day unless they are killing us by being too quick to open things up. Some people will never be satisfied.

I'll be asleep by the time the LLS comes on. But no doubt will find out what happens eventually.

...and that the exercise must be solitary and you must have a written letter to show the police and the rest...yeah...copy and paste pretty much.

Feels like a bone being thrown to people and just expecting us to shut the f*** up.

The numbers must be low. Wouldn't want to give low figures out just before they extend the lockdown

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

The only real difference between our lockdown and Italy is we are allowed exercise close to home with members of our own family

Copy and paste everything else tbh.

And good for them. They obviously value their physical and psychological welbeing over the dubious advice of "experts" who have got us into this mess.

Microbes hate paperwork so a written excuse instead of a verbal one is a big factor in spread.

    Caveats?

It's not about getting sweeties for good behaviour. Until the virus is contained this is reality.

Personally, I think they've erred in - what looks like anyway - the lifting of the 2km limit to 5km. That will encourage more movement, and inevitably, further spread of the disease. A bad decision.

The meat factorys have riddled a lot of places who were otherwise doing very well.

And walking with members of your household is lethal for spreading it too.

I think some posters here might not realise that they have to grow up and live in the real (infectious) world at the moment.

Lift all restrictions too early and all the hard work done so far will have to be done again, and many will get sick and possibly die, because some demand to be able to do what they like.

Sorry now, it's time to be grown ups and deal with it. But I suspect a lot of the giving out here is against the Government, and has no correlation with anything else being done for the good of all of us.

If you think the powers that be don't realise that there were mistakes made early on, they did, but so did every other country that I can think of in relation to care facilities, lack of PPE and the testing systems and ICU capacity.

Give them a chance and do it for your country, your neighbours, your friends, etc. Not just for YOU.

Honestly the immaturity, impatience and sheer blxolgy going on here would break your heart.

It can be demoralising reading the selfishness on display here at times, but take solace in the fact that it's only boards - which is full of windbags and cranks - and it doesn't reflect what most people think in reality.

When is Leo due on the telly to announce the lifting of restrictions?

I'd have you at the top of the list :) you do know that you can have a balance without lifting all restrictions but I think you'd prefer if they kept them until 2030 by the sounds of it.

    Is there any need?
Virgin Media news and Twitter have already aired them.

Do anyone else feel incredibly depressed? I have not seen my partner for weeks and weeks. With the pity full increase to 5km will mean that I still won't be able to see my partner for another few weeks if not months

Arghus has said he thinks the lockdowns prevented millions of deaths.

Even though no medical expert now believes that (the ones who originally predicted millions of deaths revised their predictions downward by multiples.)

I wonder how many will put 'Lockdown' under Religion on the census form?

I'm in the same boat but throw in family too.

Looking forward to spending the next few weeks being told to man up, watch Netflix, do some gardening, pick up a hobby etc. etc.

Does that mean I can drive 5km to go somewhere interesting to exercise?
