Did you miss the post from the chap saying he was confronting people who aren't wiping down stuff? Not even a hint of realising that getting in someones face (who's potentially infectious) is epicly stupid and even more risky than using the non wiped down equipment. Completely missing the point, wiping equipment is just box ticking and is almost completely futile in a gym environment. By all means moan about something worthwhile, there's plenty in the gym to worry about. That really isn't it.

    Who got in who's face?

Show us that post as I must of missed it.

With businesses being told to revert to work from home until 13/9 today, wonder what this means for 'non essential' places like gyms etc?

I believe you're referring to me and you are completely wrong about what transpired. I communicated clearly to the couple from 2 meters away so don't be embellishing stories to suit your agenda!!!

Nothing new as far as I can gather...............

Workers will continue to be encouraged to work from home if it is possible to do so.

EH, you literally said you confronted the person.. which is precisely what I stated. Do you think aerosols stay 2 metres distance in an enclosed space?! Keep whinging about people not wiping down stuff if you wish, its completely and utterly futile, if people aren't wearing masks. As for my agenda, what on earth agenda is that? Science?!

Respiratory droplets don't hang in the air so it's not correct to say that wiping down equipment is futile or at least there is nothing to support that.

But not wiping down equipment after you've been sweating away on it has always been a bugbear of people and now it's in sharper focus.

But anyway, most people are just venting without letting it have massive impact on their day let alone get involved into confrontations.

You seem to be a bit behind on the science, the virus is airborne (see article here), meaning the smaller droplets DO hang around in the air and float over much larger distances than 2 metres.

As for sweating, people are talking about wiping down plates.. who is sweating on plates? People are clearly getting worked up over the fact of not wiping down plates and equipment (nothing to do with sweating) simply because another person has touched it and its nonsense in the context of what they should be worried about, i.e. the same folks are spewing out aerosols due to having no masks.

The chap I specifically referred to was talking about confronting people for not wiping down equipment. Sounds like a lot more than venting to me.

No problem whatsoever with folks not being happy with a sweaty bench not being wiped down, but confronting people because they didn't wipe something they've touched, is well.. i've covered it above.

In a lab and some of the tests are hilarious but there may/might/can doesn't mean they do. Fresh air dissipates whatever may be there very quickly and I'd imagine every gym has every window open. If you're that beholden to the "science" probably best to stay away from them.

I'm not the one obsessed with people who don't wipe down equipment. Windows are not open in any of the flyefits I've been to. And if hadn't noticed I'm specifically commentating on other peoples futile aversion to non wiped equipment. So perhaps your suggestion to stay away should apply to them.

Theres multiple examples/cases of infections/outbreaks relating to indoor settings, cruise ship, apartments blocks, restaurants. So your belief that these particles dissipate quickly, doesn't really line up at all with how easily the virus was spread in these cases with no contact whatsoever and in an indoor setting. The gym is a massively risky place re: the virus, and the vast majority of the risk is not with unwiped equipment. Tell yourself that it is it makes you feel safer. I'm merely pointing out the obvious.

is this looking like gyms will close again?

'indoor events will be limited to 6 people - reduced from 50'.

I'm not behind on the science. I specifically mentioned respiratory droplets and how long they are airborne. I didn't say the virus couldn't be airborne. There's a difference between respiratory droplets and aerosols and aerosols are known to be more likely found in a medical setting with covid patients. 74 particles per litre of air in that research doesn't suggest that people are blowing the virus far and wide, but there are other factors mentioned on the study notwithstanding

I mentioned sweating because wiping down equipment after use has always been a bugbear of people when the worst thing you might pick up is someone's sweat. It's understandable that someone might be a bit bothered by potentially leaving virus particles on equipment, which can happen.

Just to clarify, I never said it couldn't be airborne. I just said that it could also be on the equipment. There's zero evidence to suggest that people cannot pick it up indirectly off surfaces.

Not sure. But was the first thing that entered my head when I seen the above.

Unless they're included in the separate rules that shops and restaurants are, gyms will be closing.

It's not my belief it has also been stated in research. My own is big and airy and despite the grottiness of some people not cleaning stuff down it's generally quite clean. It's veritably spotless at the moment and I love the numbers control; it makes for a more relaxed session!

If Gyms are implementing reasonable levels of distancing they shouldn't be seen as places where people gather in groups, no more than shops or restaurants.

    Glazers Out!

In March they mentioned Gyms by name. All very vague this time around. A lot of emphasis on personal responsibility, I can't see Gyms closing until they are told to do so explicitly.

Barbers and hairdressers conspicuously absent from the statement also. I don't think the government want to be seen to be stopping commerce with this statement, more so encouraging people to be responsible.

    Glazers Out!

Just confirmed by Henry at the press conf gyms are open - a class should only have 6 people in it.

Can't watch it at the moment. So the only restrictions on gyms are the number allowed to attend a class?

Just booking training slot for tomorrow and a lot more slots fully booked than I've seen before. Seems to be greater numbers getting back into it now.

possibly the overspill of people who can't book in to the smaller classes of 6 now.

Does not make sense. If the max number of people that can exercise outdoors is 15. How can gyms have 50 or so indoors?

    Or am I missing something.

Michael Martin stated it was due to folks congregating before and after games, not the games themselves.

I wouldn't put yourself through the stress of trying to figure out the whys of any of the decisions this government makes as it's becoming more and more clear they haven't a notion.

There are no classes so nothing has changed there. I'd noted I'd seen 'Fully Booked' more often but tonight was a big change

Our gym has updated the booking system so that only 6 people can attend per class, but they have added some more classes to the timetable so I'm very happy with that
