They are still in the single market until the 1st December 2020 with an option to extend it if necessary. This is to facilitate the transitional period until they officially leave the EU.

So there should be no additional VAT/Duty on goods coming in from the UK.

The best of luck finding a non essential UK business open at the moment, and if they are dealing online their suppliers and distributers aren't!

Is it a standard optical scope, just expensive?

You’ll get just as good value here from shops. I did, shop around. Try and keep our local businesses going.

Funny I had a feeling it something night visionise...
It doesn't look like its 'weapons' mountable so you shouldn't have an issue.

I had two separate deals refused by UK businesses for a NV scope in the last few weeks. It was a bummer as I was getting them for a great deal compared to prices here.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION RELATING TO LICENSING AND EXPORT CONTROLS

Please note that the export or re-export of any riflescopes or night vision systems, be it image intensified, thermal or other, above a given specification is strictly controlled by ITAR regulations. All of these systems are subject to UK Governmental Export Licensing Regulations and dependent on specification, a licence may need to be obtained prior to the export, even temporarily(e.g if you are travelling overseas with your device on holiday), from the UK.

It is the responsibility of the exporter, whether it be a company or an individual to ensure that such a licence is obtained. Failure to comply is a criminal offence. For further information please visit

Or you can contact the Export Control Organisation on Tel: 020 7215 4594, Fax: 020 7215 2635 Email: eco.help@bis.gsi.gov.uk

I got pinged on the above, even using a Northern Ireland Parcel Motel, my credit card details raised a flag. Nethier company offered to assist me with a licence.

Not sure whether you are looking for a spotter or a scope.

Why wouldn't they pay VAT even when the UK is still in the EU?

As I said, shop around. You should get it for about €2200-2300.

If you had paid through PayPal or a Revolut card would it also have flagged?

One of them has a policy, for high value items, of checking credit card details versus delivery address, so this may have also been an issue.

In both cases I bought the scope through thier on line shops and it was the following working day or so that I got the cancellation. Obviously when the human element got involved things went pear shaped.

If you having probloms finding one send me a message, i have uk export licences with 2 supplyers that have them in stock, with the current exchange rate i might be able to find a deal.

I too was in the same boat on the very same xq38f I was pricing them all over the world and I found one in Australia for €2000 the more I thought about it the more I was put off buying it abroad purely because if it acts up and I need it replaced or repaired there’s an awful headache involved so I bought it local and have a full 3 year warranty with a shop only 20mins from me.
And to reassure you they are worth every cent the image quality is mind blowing!

• Registered Users Posts: 2,759 ✭✭✭cookimonster

I was very attracted to the lower price in the UK and would have gladly bought it. But after buying here, I consoled my buyers remorse with the same thinking that bought local would be a less PIA.
