Favorite Old School WWF Wrestler

I've run similar tournaments on the Pro Wrestling forum on boards but thought I might give it a wee go here and get a bit of nostalgia going. Nowadays, the main show in town in called WWE but many remember fondly the older days of the WWF with mad character and acts.

I've picked 30 of the best acts from the 80's and 90's and will pair them off in matches where you have to vote for your favourite. There will be a Last Chance Battle Royal then where you can nominate any favouites that you feel have missed out to give them a chance too!

    Rules are as follows

    * All draws are random selected using number generator.

    * You have to give a reason for your choice.

    * First Round matches are first to 5 votes.

    * If a match is tied after an hour, leading wrestler goes through.

    * If it's a tie before a decision is made, I'll cast the winning vote.

My knowledge of Wrestling is not extensive by any means, but this is probably the era I'm most familiar with, so I'll vote in the rounds where I have a clear favourite.

Gotta be The Undertaker for this one, even if you've never watched a wrestling match in your life, everyone has heard of The Undertaker. He's legendary.

The Undertaker wins this entire tournament, surely?! The streak, the entrance chimes, the coffins, the tombstone, Paul Bearer, even the terrible biker period was better than a lot of wrestlers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 294 ✭✭Darksoul

Undertaker win: rarely loses and goes on winning streaks, absolutely no contest here in all fairness.

Has to be The Taker. HTM was good on his day but Taker was so interesting and intriguing back then! Proper lived the gimmick too

I'm shocked a guy called Darksoul likes the Undertaker

    Undertaker for the win

physically superior in this matchup and also has the mental advantage with his manager by his side

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,100 ✭✭✭Notmything

Undertaker, he actually had you believe his backstory

Undertaker wins 5-0, another streak in the works maybe. Next match is coming up in a few and will be interesting.

Undertaker with Paul Bearer and The Urn wins hands down

American Badass Undertaker though Honky Tonk Man could take him definitely

Bret the hitman win: to me he was technically the best wrestler of all time in my eyes. Sharpshooter finish easy!

Bret Hart for me, personally my favourite wrestler of all time, excellent technically and at the top of the industry for a long time, surely one of the favs for the entire tournament.

Very close even match here between Hart and Piper

Bret Hart for the win as he is the excellence of execution

Loved Roddy Piper but it has to be The Hitman, brilliant tag team with Jim the Anvil Neidhart (spl) also.

The Hitman wins via submission with a score of 5-1

Bret 'Hitman' Hart for me, too. Him and Piper are two completely different style of wrestlers and personalities, but I think I quite liked Bret's cleaner image, and crisper entrance, theme, wrestling style, etc.

An overall better wrestler (perhaps not a better entertainer, though).

    Rocky Maivia

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,920 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

The Rock for getting himself over with everyone, despite having the worst finisher in wrestling. Most electrifying move in sports entertainment my arșe!

(I'll have more genuine reasons in later rounds!)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 144 ✭✭theunforgiven

The Rock just brought things to a whole other level. I used to be so freaked out that someone could bring a snake to a wrestling match 😂...and I loved the DDT...but it has to be the Rock...a clear cut decision as you could get I'd say.

    Rocky Maivia

Gotta give a reason. Don't be a jabroni.

The Rock. We are the nation of domination and promo king

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 610 ✭✭✭jay1988

The Rock for me, hugely popular, completely changed the game when it came to mic work and had some classic rivalries over the years, Austin, Foley etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

A clean sweep for the most electrifying man in sports entertainment.

HBK hands down for me, again an amazing in ring performer and probably the greatest entrance song of all time! DX and some legendary matches.

Easy victory for HBK even if he did break my young heart by putting Marty Janetti through the barbershop window :(

Mr Perfect for me here in a very close match.
Probably the best technical wrestler of the era and had all the moves.
    Great thread again Omackeral.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,915 ✭✭✭Chuck Noland

Mr Perfects vignettes are one of my earliest memories of wrestling BUT loved HBK since around the time he started teaming with diesel so gonna go with ol HBK here

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,199 ✭✭✭✭Igotadose

Mr. Perfect. Michaels always seemed disinterested almost in wrestling, where Perfect loved to show off his abilities. Not even close in my book.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25 Jeff88448

HBK. Mr Perfect wouldn't get up after being hit with sweet chin music

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,116 ✭✭✭✭Seve OB

hacksaw job duggan cause he was a bit mad

but c'mon lads, the Hulkster :D just saw the A team the other week with him in it.....he was brutal, mind you it all was a bit brutal but I was about 10 when it was on and I loved it :)
the WWF would have been nothing without him, he was the shows first big ticket star and he was loved and because of him, it grew to the massive heights that it did back in the 80's

HBK for me. His 2002 run onwards was arguably better than his earlier run. And his taker matches pure classics.
