I would pay for it if they put up a pay wall... best source for news out there
Lol, suppose we all need some wild humour in these end of days.

The Guardian is the website the BBC wishes it was. News coverage is excellent. Of course the opinion pieces tend to be liberal claptrap but easily avoided alongside the proper journalism.

No surprises at the posters who thanked that post either.

    I suppose it explains a lot.:D

Was there a thread this intense during the Ebola outbreak?

    https://www.rte.ie/news/ireland/2020/0226/1117632-coronavirus-ireland/

The Health Service Executive's Assistant National Director for Public and Child Health has said "it looks increasingly likely that the world will experience a significant outbreak of Covid-19 over the next six to 12 months."

From looking at the details on the 1st Greek report - it looks like Milan Fashion week may turn into a major infection point - a Fashion Designer from Greece looks to to have contracted the virus in Milan and with the the help of Ryanair brought it home.

The circus that is Fashion Week has now moved from Milan to Paris - so expect more report sourced to that gathering.

Besides the fact that a 50% infection rate within a population would be astounding, the 450,000 would require medical treatment of some sort but not all would require hospitalisation or ventilation.

Spanish flu nearly infected the whole world swine flu 60+ million its not altogether madness to think a country like ours if their was an outbreak it would reach those numbers. Its not a sprint its a marathon. Look how quick "seasonal flu" spreads here also as alot of people are comparing those, its alot worse than flu

Whole country was practically closed down for a few weeks, widespread cancellations of non essential travel & meetings. For sheep & cattle farmers, who when if out of pocket afterwards, got compensation. And the same lads who caused it feeding dodgy stuff to their stock and smuggling across the border.

    Obviously humans are more dispensable.

Dead people don’t complain. Farmers of dead animals are far more vocal.

When was there an Ebola pandemic?

First cases in Georgia and Norway, can't imagine it'll be more than 2-3 days before it is detected in Ireland

Ok, what is so bad about saying that for most it will be comparable to a bad cold or mild flu? It's true. Most people have mild or no symptoms.

We know it isnt either of those illnesses but as most people have experienced one or both many times in their lives is it not a good way of putting it in terms that people will be able to relate to?

In theory yes, although we really don't know what % of the population will get infected.

If it was like the pandemic of 1919, then 27% of the population would catch it. This would translate to 27,000 needing medical intervention in ireland. Not all, of course, at the same time.

My wife just told me that she read on a Chinese Ireland board ( for Chinese in Ireland) that there has been a positive case in Bray today, don't see it anywhere else though. YMMV, hope that's BS as its very close to here 😥

Tourism and flights as of 2020 and not 1919 floating over on a ship would make a huge change in them numbers.

Opinion pieces are woeful, apart from Marina Hyde, if you could call her article's opinion pieces. Her musings on current events are a joy to read.

Whoever is in charge of the world map for scratching off these countries and numbers will sure be kept busy. Then there's regions, sub-regions and cities that might all assign their own emergency levels.

How many people have "heard" that there is a positive case somewhere or other at this stage about to announced any minute now? seems like every other person on this thread going back weeks. Must be a full blown epidemic in ireland at this stage. Oh wait no, there isnt

We better hope there is no world war to coincide with this like there was with the Spanish flu

Bahrain now has 33 cases of new caronavirus with 7 saudi nationals among them. Big rise for such a small country in 24 hours.

Maybe, hope they got their wires crossed and misinterpreted why the PTA meeting was cancelledWe'll find out soon enough if it's true.

    Careful now.

The last poster who went down this road about 90 minutes a go was taken behind the back of a shed by the mods and given a hiding he'll never forget.

He hasn't been heard from since.

In a serious way though, what is wrong with that?
For most people, we have been told by Health groups, that this appears as a bad flu(with fever, tiredness and cough/could symptoms)

Yes some people will get it a lot worse. But for the majority of us.

To portray an illness in the way it will affect the majority, Seemingly, Is not a bad thing

I think we can be fairly sure we will get a real confirmed case by the weekend. Just the timings for incubation over last few weeks seem to be popping up now.
