There is no doubt there are other unconfirmed cases still going around unaware they have it.

I still haven't seen an answer to this question - how many tests are we doing with people suspected? Just the one? Because other countries reporting positive cases confirmed only after the second/third or even fourth test.

The sad thing is that the people in HSE making these decisions will never have to encounter a Covid patient ever.

Easy to spout from the sidelines.

I wish all frontline and surgical and emergency staff the very best and hope beyond hope that they are well looked after. They deserve it so much.

so have HSE traced the people on the plane on which this person travelled? They are going to be a risk too. We'll probably see a sudden cluster of people now in East of the country. Even that would test the HSE's capabilities.


Surely now Italy should be shutting its airports (or at least we should stop people travelling here from Italy or anywhere that has confirmed cases)?

Well I’m not sure if it’s widely accepted in fact I’d argue people are saying that numbers suppressed. But I will agree spurs are enough to be worrying about at the minute.

i honestly don't know how hospitals will cope with anyone needing Intensive care theres no beds no room, the Icu's in our hospitals are tiny and probably already at capacity and then where do the staff come from already under staffed to look after the patients they have at the moment. I had a relative in St James recently there were 2 nurses for a whole ward for the night shift thats a ward of at least 30 beds they forgot to give my relative meds on several occasions as they just couldn't cope its a shambles on an average day. And thats a mild story I have heard waaay worse.

Very good chance he wasn't even contagious on the plane - maybe he was over there a week, caught it mid hols. Be a while before he was even able to spread the virus. Bigger concern would be people he's associated with back in Ireland

? He would be contagious without showing symptoms not the other way round.

The HSE and government seem to be more interested in appealing for people to remain calm instead of doing all they can to avert this crisis. Here's a crazy thought, people would be a lot calmer if they had put a stop on flights coming in from a known virus hotspot a few days ago.

Do we even know if he's Irish or Italian or another nationality?

You don't suddenly become contagious after you get infected - probably more likely caught it in the airport than walking around outside in Italy

We ve known that for years and we havent sorted it, it was only a matter of time before something like this finishes the job, as a country we cant really complain we have let this happen.

What % of the cases globally are still those who have come from affected outbreak areas or their close relatives, friends, business associates? Obviously this isn't good, but if you're not up close with a carrier and just a passing member of the public are your chances of catching greatly reduced still? This all assumes there isn't a big cluster.
