What seems to be emerging, as Teresa Reidy said, is voters just going for the SF brand regardless of who was running.

Makes a change from just voting for who mammy and daddy and granny and granda voted for.

I asked what they wanted on the door and they couldn't tell me!
Knocked on wrong doors I'd say
Lmfao, I didn't see many knocking on doors now tbf.

Personally i don't get how why people draw real comparison between local elections and government elections.

There's a stark difference in reasons and influence.

I was just pointing out how much of a surprise that result must have been for everyone.
I think the original commentary on this was more of a what to expect than a prediction.

Hardly believable that a pretty invisible TD like Kathleen Funchion could top the poll whilst the very capable Lisa Chambers might lose her seat. Same for Mythen in Wexford - how/ why could people justify sticking his name to No1?

The SF election literature was not about the candidates, no contact information at all on ours for the SF candidate. It was just a photo of the candidate alongside brand Mary Lou, a bit of negative blurb on FF/FG and that was it.

Unbelievable that the electorate has fallen for this 'change'.
The SF election literature I got was all on local candidate (aeongus) and canvasser was same

Health care, child care and transport are a massive chunk out of my wages. FG have no intention of solving these issues

and other parties have no ability to solve these either. Most of the parties want to increase transport costs or are willing to sit down with the greens and blame them. Childare and healthcare can only be solved by dissolving unions and the book of quantum or piling stupid amounts of money at it that realistically has to come from your pocket and my pocket because therell be riots if those under 35k have to pay anything and those over 200k and corporations would just throw the fingers up and go live in malta or the UAE.

I'd say these must not have been written too recently, seem to underestimate the SF rise in a few constituencies.

From the counts so far it looks to me like Sinn Fein have taken a lot of votes from other parties like labour, solidarity and people before profit.

Be interesting to see how the transfers go

But now that you mention it very similar patter.

I was being semi serious, my uncle always gives him first preference because he helped him get the pavement lowered outside his driveway in the late 90's - won't hear a bad word said against him

Well SF did and that's why they ran the number they did. It's also the pool they all dip into for GE candidates, i.e. people, who have been successfully elected.

Murphy speaks well. Shouldn't have been in Housing but articulate and impressive.

There will be a lot of SF topping the polls (by large margins) due to FF/FG trying to get 2-3 seats

I expect a lot more SF candidates the next time around.
It would have been very interesting in Cork North Central had Johnathan O'Brien ran aswell as Tommy Gould. With all the change there, they could have gotten in 2 rather than 1.

    Neither have SF.

Pal, do you seriously think that these issues can be solved without screwing you for tax, because the Shinners supporters certainly won’t be asked to pay.

One way or the other, you.....will......pay

    Brexit tired people out.

Even though FG had to do the talks cause someone had to people just are sick of it.

I mean not that sick of it. They look to be the largest party still so far so we could still end up with Leo leading the government

Super interview with Eoghan Murphy there. Very competent and clear. No discussion with the fundamentally undermocratic SF at all. Definitive statement from a well spoken Michael's boy.

People wanted to give FFG a real bruising. Voting SF was the most convincing way of doing that. It has worked.

He doesn't seem to have a clue what's going on...so pretty much the usual.
Dobson not going easy on him to be fair.

No-one has said FG will be the largest party either in seats or votes?

and other parties have no ability to solve these either.

We've given FF and FG 90 years to try solve these issues. I think we can risk giving left leaning parties 5 years or so

Listening to him now understood why housing is a mess. Completely out of touch with reality like most FG hardline supporters.
