I think the UK has been pretty clear that it doesn't support handing over huge swathes of control to Brussels at least since the beginning of Boris' term as Prime Minister.
The British People Chose to run their own Country. They are hardly going to let Brussels do it !

I think the UK has been pretty clear that it doesn't support handing over huge swathes of control to Brussels at least since the beginning of Boris' term as Prime Minister.

Yes we know that, but it hasn't given any idea of how it intents to continue with the current benefits without the associated costs.

Despite the EU telling it time after time that it cannot have whatever it wants, the UK continues on the path that this is what they want and they don't understand why the EU won't give it to them.

Why should a non member be able to have benefits the same as a member? The UK have never been able to answer that apart from the usual "because German Car makers".

Although it would appear that to many of the UK simply repeating something enough times (such as 'we follow the science") is sufficient for them to accept it, the EU does not operate that way.

What is the UK offering to the EU in return for all this flexibility is it looking for?

I think that the EU has also been clear that handing over control of who is allowed to send what, and under what standards, into the internal market, to the UK or any other third country just ain't gonna happen.

It's a bit mad isn't it how Brexiteers twist things. UK wants to be able to import stuff to the EU. EU says "well hold on, we need to be able to agree on standards on what you are sending in" and the UK says "no, we want to be able to freely send what we like without restrictions and not have to observe EU standards - even though your local producers have to accept those standards for the protection of your population. We want to be able to able to send whatever old crap we decide to you people".

If they want a deal, those are the conditions. If they don't, well then, they can "piss off and get on with Brexit". Seems perfectly reasonable to me.

They must be going to let China do it then? No?

    https://www.globalmeatnews.com/Article/2019/06/10/China-steps-up-UK-beef-access-inspections

UK wanted to export meat to China - China said "we're sending people to check to make sure your things are up to our standards"

Personally, I think it's reasonable and acceptable for a foreign country to first insist, and then want to check that the products coming into it are up to appropriate standards. Chinese delegations also inspected Irish processing plants last year and approved some of them as being up to their required standard. There will also necessarily need to be documentation and evidence kept that those standards are continually being met in order for those plants to remain approved.

If EU insisting on their standards is being "run" from Brussels, then surely the China insisting on its standards is being "run" from Beijing?

Why are you letting yourselves be governed by Beijing???? eek.pngeek.pngeek.png

    No one cares anymore.

We're all happy for Britain to leave. They made that decision four years ago yet the only people keeping them in the EU is Britons, including Boris Johnson.

Anyone who disagrees with you is a Re-Mainer or a EuroPhile.
Nice way to label dissenting views.

Remind me again, how is it that with a Brexit majority and the leave majority in government, the UK is still in the EU 4 years later?

    Oh Dear :eek::eek:

    No one cares Blinding.

The only thing people care about is when Britain will leave the EU. It's the thread title.

Any ideas when your hero Boris will stop dragging his feet? He's had a leave majority for nearly 6 months at this stage.

Why would I tell you anything about myself? As I said I live here, the way you are talking/boasting does not represent the average British person wether they be leave or remain.

To put it mildly, you're an embarrassment ... Said in the nicest possible manner mods.

I didn’t ask to know anything about you personally. Why would I ?

You have come on to this thread current Affairs/ IMHO. It is usual to give your position on the matter at hand and argue your points if you can.

Anyway . I am not one afraid to argue my points, so work away.

As a British Person could you ever make an Inquiry on my behalf as to what has happened to the Part funded ( by all taxpayers ) Channel 4’s General Election Night Coverage. All the other Channels still have theirs up. Even the ones not Part Funded ( by all the British Taxpayers ). Tis a Fierce Mystery; Worthy of Sherlock Holmes / Miss Marple Combined. Thanks awfully in Advance ! ! !

You don't have to be particularly clever to understand that to trade with other countries/regions/blocs you must relinquish a bit of control.

If Paddy Irishman is trading his cabbages for Paddy Englishman's wheat then they must meet standards each other's respective markets will accept.

So the standards Paddy Englishman expects on Cabbages must be implemented in Ireland and the standards Paddy Irishman expects on wheat must be implemented in England.

That's where your logic falls down.

Plenty of English can't wait to get rid of EU standards, forgetting it was the British who wrote most of them.

I don't get this vibe at all. I don't think the average person cares. Actually, if anything they seem completely averse to the likes of US-imported chicken and for good reason.

The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the LORD your God.

It never had to get to the State the Eu has go into. Stuck in this that and the other and being used by politicians not to do stuff they do not want to do anyway ( as are coalition governments but that is another story )

The British voted to stay in the EEC ; A very loose trading group with as little interference as possible in Sovereign Independent Nation States ! ! !

The British people were never asked did they want the further and further integration that the Eu was continuing to do. As soon as the British people were asked they said ; No Thanks.

I believe the British People would have Rejected the Maastricht Treaty and the Lisbon Treaty had they been asked. Thankfully the British People have taken their Country out of the Eu. This is what they wanted. An Excellent Win for Democracy.
