Even without the remap, it wouldn’t exactly be slow.

Yes but who doesn’t want to go faster in a hot hatch!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,885 ✭✭✭hooch-85

Not slow but not fast either. A remap makes them properly quick. Faster than a stock GTi.

How was your GTD? Are they fun to drive too?

Car is only 5 weeks old, and I'm already reminiscing back to the few days we had it before total lockdown, and being able to drive it further than our local Tesco with Mrs. & Junior BoBandy on board!!

    :(

As fun as a four cylinder diesel can be i suppose. It was quick, very torquey and the remap was very linear so it held boost well up the rev range, it handled well as i had VWR springs on it as well. Was just missing the fun factor you get from a fast performance petrol.

What kind of numbers were you looking at after a remap hooch, 240-250hp? More torque than the GTi would make if feel faster alright.

Mine made 233bhp and 353ft lb. The Golf R is 280 ft lbs.

Never knew or looked up the torque figure of the R. Torque is for towing trailers :)

You have a tow bar on a Golf R?!

    Tossy's sarcasm game is strong:D:D

You can't fit one to an R due to the exhaust set up.

I remember a guy down here years ago had one fitted to an EK9 Civic to tow his Jetski around, always thought it was a good enough reason to justify one.

 Was thinking that! silly me

Picked up this Arona in March. Gave it a going over today with the hose and some polish.

Really enjoying it. It has the 1.5 TSI engine. Cracking little unit and quite nippy in the smallish car.

Ah family member has one of these with the 1.0tsi engine I didn't even realise you could get them with the 1.5 that is a great engine for it. Also the seats and Virtual Cockpit make the interior.

Cheers. The 1.5 is an optional upgrade only available on the FR. Very happy with the virtual cockpit. Its standard on the FR now.
