Yes the install you got was likely provisional- you’ll receive another nearer to the time you’re due to be connected.

You can check this with Sky or via NBI website.

Thanks for the info, yes on reviewing the email from Sky the word provisional was used. Not sure why they went to the effort of letting me select an install date on a calendar (and sending a SMS with install info).

No big deal to wait further, my trusty Starlink remains in place.

I believe NBI actually schedule the appointments.

I can give you all the low down on the scheduling etc as having just been through it.

When I ordered through sky I got an install date also, but just as has been mentioned that is a provisional date that your provider requests to NBI, who in turn send the request to KN circet.

IIt's actually KN Circet who schedule your install with you. In ny case sky sent out their router via DPD a few days before the date circet scheduled.

On the day circet arrived to install they were very helpful, the installer even mentioned they are paid to go into attics if required. I had planned to put a small cabinet into the attic a year or 2 ago to house a firewall and switch, I'm sorry I didn't now.

Anyway the install is very quick and painless provided you know where you want to locate the ONT and router.

I rang Sky last week. The agent put through a fake order for me he'd cancel at the final stage just to see when I'd get a installtion date timeframe. End of August.

thanks guys for the info, figured a quick turnaround in install time was too good to be true. Hopefully will be sorted by autumn time. I won’t be retiring the Musk dish just yet!

NBI progress so far, latest numbers

    • Designs complete 565,643 (100%+)
    • Premises Passed 361,101 (64%)
    • Premises available for order/pre-order 381,872 (68%)

Looking good to complete the rollout on schedule, even ahead of the contracted target date of October 2027.

I think they are well ahead. Our area wasn't due to go live until December, went live last month.

Placed my pre-order on Tuesday. Now for the waiting game.

Below is just for reference how my timeline for NBI has gone so far.

    NBI Journey below:)

Summer 2023 - Surveying . Can’t remember exactly but met a guy from NBI on the road looking at poles etc. It was circa July/August 2023. He said to me that day it would approx 18months/2 years before I would be connected.

    January 2024 -Trimming Hedges

March 2024 - poles erected in area and some replaced also

October 18th 2024 - got email from NBI that I could pre-order (It said I would be connected within 45 days of putting pre-order in). Pre-ordered straight away!

Late October - sales agents from providers calling to house with their offers etc

29th October 2024- Guy from TLI came to survey how it would be brought into house. I had it ducted so was able to get it almost to the house but duct was blocked where it entered house. He advised they may to do a bit of digging. If duct was’t a runner , they were willing to worm it up the lawn. Don’t be afraid to ask for this if thats what you would prefer to overhead. Also one pole would need to be erected at road by my entrance.

5th Nov 2024 - Civils came to put cable in duct & brought cable to outside wall. They had to dig last few metres as suspected they would to find where cable was stalling. Did a very clean job.

    14th Nov 2024 - my pole erected

Today - 21st Nov 2024 - my fibre cable slung to nearest distribution point

29th Nov 2024 - date my provider has scheduled for connection.

18th Dec 2024 - didnt happen on 29th Nov. Connected on the this day

As I had still 6 months left with LTE provider, I used my cooling off period to cancel straight away

I ordered with Sky today for 30 euro a month. Connection in 2 weeks. Ready to rock after doing all the provisioning work while NBI were in the area 6 months ago

Fair enough, but I wouldn't be giving them a free pass 'til Oct 2027.

NBI passed 120k last calendar year. If they keep doing that it gets them to 566k by EOY 2026. Why accept less.

I assume that readjusted contract completion date was just to take account of the issues encountered during COVID.

Around here they're moving faster than expected with first connections due Oct to Dec instead of 2026.

The sooner they pass those premises the sooner they get the subsidy cash.

in fairness, NBI are a private company, so not much concern they won’t make their goal. If it affects the “bottom dollar” it won’t be dragged out.

Consequently if they were written a blank cheque to arse about like say, I don’t know, BAM, might be a different story. As said above- no broadband no money.

IIRC they also paid a fine for non-covid delay which is reclaimable if they catch up.

I placed an order on our Vodafone Red Family account for 1Gbps NBI with Vodafone- not for my house but another family members on 1st of April. Installers called 3 times, 1st time to see what the layout of the property was like, 2nd visit to draw the cable, 3rd visit they connected the pole and said that they were still waiting for Vodafone to schedule a proper installation date and fit the connection in the house. Called today for Vodafone to say "Oh we've an issue in the Vodafone system and we need to cancel the original order and replace it". They proceed to now say it's a 24 month term and E100 installation fee on NBI and will not budge what so ever. I've spoken to 3 individuals so just say, oh terms have changed and you must now pay the E100 and agree to 24 months even though it's the Vodafone system issue.

Every single interaction with Vodafone gets worse and worse. Bottom of the barrel when it comes to customer care and their own care systems working these days in my view.

really there’s 100e install fee now?? Crazy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,853 ✭✭✭Ah-Watch

Surely it's an error on their side but I spoke to 3 different agents, all 3 said it's a fee on NBI now since beginning of May and mandatory 24 months if you don't buy online. They would not budge what so ever even though it was their system issue that meant the order had to be re-placed. Of the main operators, only 1 charges an activation fee that I can think of and that's only 50e and 12 month contract.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,659 ✭✭✭Raichų

yeah I see it’s free if you go online. Very interesting.

I am going to test this out myself- I’ll grab an NBI eircode and ring them. Are you pre sale or you’re already live? If you are pre sale would you be comfortable shooting me (by PM) an eircode in your area?

    Will revert back to you.

It has gone from presale to live since earlier this month…

People may ask, why not place order online in that case- it says you need to call them or go instore to do Red Family discounts. They placed the order when recontracting 5 mobiles with Vodafone last month and quotes 1GB for 30e a month on 12 month term with the Red discount

Hi everyone - I have a question about the ONT box…you know the DATA signal light on the box…should that be a constant green when everything is ok or could it flicker intermittently and only stay constant for maybe a second or 2 before it starts flickering again???
    Thanks in advance 😌

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 743 ✭✭✭Dero

The data light flickers constantly when data is passing through the connection. It's also different colours depending on the connection to your router. Green is 1GbE, yellow is 2.5GbE and blue is 10GbE.
