Ditto ! And then I logged on here.! Brendan O' Connor must be the most overrated interviewer ever to present a prime spot on RTE. Parochial musings, serial interruptions and verbal logorrhoea for whatever factoid enters his head are his shtick in trade. Bring back John Bowman !

I take it you’ve never listened to Joe Duffy or Ray D’Arcy then?

    Completely

It was The elephant in the room when he announced Adam Harris was coming on

I turned the radio up expecting BOC to ask “so was your brother Simon Harris involved in this scandal when he was recently the minister for health”???

It was the obvious question to ask....

Instead we got silence on that front and an otherwise very soft handy interview for Adam Harris (by the by, he sounds almost exactly like his brother)
Back in feudal times, the sins of the father were to be met with punishment on his entire family, who all carried the stigma of whatever wrong was done. It's still the same today in very rural, underdeveloped communities in northern pakistan and afghanistan.

I often wonder to myself if some of us wouldn't feel completely at home there.

The root of the obvious reply to your question goes back a long long way -

    "Am I my brother's keeper?"

Sorry - hold on a minute

Adam Harris is the ceo of an autism charity “as I am” it is called

This scandal is specifically to do with persons with autism and the dept of health.

Harris brother was the last minister for health

Surely it is a legitimate question to ask Adam Harris if his Brother the minister had knowledge of this scandal????

Or if they had even discussed it since it has come to light in the media ??

1 thing I’ve noticed is he was very much a “small state” slash the public sector type up until a number of years ago when he pivoted to demanding all sorts of public services particularly in terms of health care

Personally I think he just advocates whatever he thinks will be popular

I useta read him in the indo and follow him in the media, I found he began to change around the time his daughter came on the scene and his musings on the public sector took a bit of a turn imv

Well his daughter has special needs so I noticed a change in his attitude around this time, not saying its a bad thing btw anyway its just mv from reading him from a long while back

He had a child born with Down Syndrome. I suspect that is what is behind the pivot.

To be fair that is a pretty dramatic life-hanging event which will force engagement with govt services hitherto unknown to most. I’m not surprised he’s changed his tune somewhat since this; the extent to which he has done so is perhaps a little surprising given how outspoken he was previously but people also mellow when they get older too.

Ah, he settled down a fair bit once he got married and had kids. Anyone who worked in hotels around the city centre, particularly the quays, would be well aware of Brendan’s “wild years”.

His attitude changed when he “grew up”. Happens to the best of us.

It is natural for views to change as you grow older but it is a significant change in his case. On a related point it is relevant to issues such as reducing voting age and the increase in younger politicians and leaders....people making important long term decisions need to have significant life experience

I'm surprised so many are shocked at how much BOC tows the rte line and avoids anything controversial on his show.

He's in a gig paying 250k per year, why would you do anything to jeopardise that? He has a job for life now at rte, this is him now to retirement.

I'm familiar with the background and relationships.

Did you really expect a Cain and Abel story to be unearthed in the leafy suburbs of Wicklow?

A bit much to expect for a Sunday morning.

Stop over dramatising a fairly simple situation.

I simply would expect a question along the lines of

“Adam Harris - as someone with autism. this scandal must be deeply shocking to you -especially given the circumstances that your brother was minister for health up until recently. Have you raised this with your brother - did he know of this practise within his dept?”

There is nothing simple in the situation.

You could expect what you like but my point is that you would be left in a state of suspended expectation.

It is quite a simple situation that for whatever reason people are trying to complicate

Duffy and Tubs are contractor's too, they seem to be there for life.

Ballsy mind you came in around Lefty John but wouldn’t have the ‘pedigree’ the other two have.

    You know yourself.;)

Hotels on the quays? Morrison/Clarence come to mind. Near to where the indo offices were then.

You have to tell us more ...!!
