Ok. Something I wonder is: why is Humpty Dumpty represented visually as an egg? There's no mention of this in the nursery rhyme.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 201 ✭✭Alecto

Well, maybe it's because he shatters when he falls off the wall and they try to put him together again? Like I suppose eggs do break pretty easily. Then again I'm pretty sure a human would break if they fell from a great height too. This is food for thought :p

Why was he so important the King sent the entire army to try and reconstruct him?

What use were the horses anyway? I doubt they have eggcellent reconstruction skills.

Pffft... trivialities like historical accuracy don't concern me.

I wish I was a bot, then I'd have no feelings, that would be very very nice.

    Humpty History!

The original story! According to a number of military historians, Humpty Dumpty was the name of a cannon used by the Royalists during the English Civil War.

The conflict raged from 1642 to 1649, and in June of 1648, Humpty Dumpty was stationed on the walls of Colchester. It was one of several cannons erected to try and keep Parliament’s army from taking the city. The next month, however, the Parliamentary forces heavily damaged the walls beneath Humpty Dumpty with their own artillery. You can guess where this is going: Humpty Dumpty had a great fall, and broke into pieces.

And now Numpty Dumpty AKA Prince Harry is waging his own civil war !

Oh thank you for posting that, I learned something new today! So humpty wasn't a lego man or an egg, he was a cannon!

Runny egg and chips would be nice....

Mmm, oh stop Grem, you're making me hungry. Though chips with curry sauce would be good too.

I have a question! Why doesn't glue stick to the inside of the bottle? Is it because it's air tight?

Also, once you have used a tube of superglue once you may bin it, if you can with stuck together fingers, it's done, there is no second use of superglue tubes

I'm just in A and E with my 5 year old. He vomited a pint of blood but they think it's viral and that he's okay. Fairly shook up all the same.

That's terrible. I'm so sorry. As somebody who is not a medical professional, it really does sound to me like something children typically do, if that's any consolation. It probably is just a gastrointestinal issue with some sort of oesophagal tearing brought on by a stomach virus.

Jeez sorry to hear that Ush. I hope it is viral and that he'll be grand. No wonder you got a fright, I hope you'll be given the all clear and you can take him home soon.

Same. Whenever I threw up my mother used to say that's a pound out of the doctor's pocket :P

Yikes, that's very scary Ush. Glad it's nothing too serious.

Happened with my brother when he was a toddler. Walked into the kitchen with his cheeks all puffed out. My mother said what's wrong with you and he opened his mouth and spewed blood everywhere. Turned out he had shoved a metal coat hanger down his throat. For a laugh or something. Kids are weird.
