Sadly it hasn't been a toy show for years. It's more of a talent show for kids hoping to be discovered, with a few toys thrown in here and there. I don't think it can get much more woke at this point, a blind precocious Traveler child with Davy whateverhisface his. Various other precocious kids related to various RTE employees along with a few celebrities turning up to flog whatever album/book they've got out for Christmas under the guise of ''surprising'' some child on the show that's a fan of theirs. I pity kids who never actually saw the proper Toy Show. Last year was the end of it for me.

^^^^^^^a sprinkling of a few toys. Some are "reviewed".
The "toy show" has morphed more or less into a talent show complete with a 6 / 7 year old in traditional costume on a small bar stool telling some piseogs or reciting a poem.

I found last year very disappointing. It just felt flat the whole time. It just seemed to be more of a formulaic talent show than a show about kids playing with toys. Even the extra audience seats all around the set seemed to reduce the focus on kids playing with toys. Hopefully with the nostalgia focus it will go back to what made it great.

Don't forget to Buy the hearse. This is radio controlled by a "kid" from an approved "drama school" to race around the studio

Even when I was a child there was too much music and not enough toys.

Both Joe & Ryan have the same interest and expertise in actual toys.

With regard to books, well, the late late toy show would make a perfect vehicle for childrens bewks

And as for the competition details constantly being repeated throughout the programme, Should leave for one night during toy show, money money

Nobody will ever better Gay Byrne's style of hosting the Toy Show. That put upon doing it grudgingly face worked the best. A grown man trying to out child children is tiresome and irritating. I'll watch something else this year.

Oh, I’d forgotten about the “big opening musical number, which remains a closely guarded secret until the last moment”.

Cancer; but with a festive twist:

Tubridy's gonna come out dressed a massive tumour with tinsel and baubles hangin off him. And the opening number will be 'Death and All his Friends' (Coldplay), sung by Tubridy as all the kids dance around him.

I posted this in the UNPOPULAR OPINIONS thread

    And stand fully by it.

As a parent with 3 kids under 10, the Late Late Toy Show is

    1) on too early, it's November ffs and apparently they have to have the Xmas tree up for the show, so we now have to be like all the a$sholes with their trees up in November.
Why could it not be on next Friday? At least it would be December.

    2) on too late in terms on time. Starting at 9:35 ffs. My kids are usually sleeping by that time.

I know, I know it's a special night and all that. I get it. But it goes on til after 1130 and my kids will be like a bag of cats for days after this, like last year as they try to recover from the lack of sleep.

Could rte not start it at 830? Just for the toy show?

And RT would be the first guy to be moaning on his soapbox if something like this was being done too early. I'm sure I've heard him complain about Easter eggs being sold early in the past.

But when it's the toy show, how dare you moan.

And I remember saying to the OH about 3 or 4 years ago, " there was hardly any toys on that, it was more like a kids talent show"

They do it in November so that the Mammies and Daddies have plenty of time to go and buy all the ****e they're flogging!

If it was next Friday it would still be possible.

And it would be in December!!!

I bet you this is a modern phenomenon, anyone know how many toy shows have been in November before? I think last year's was too.

it's always this amount of weeks before Xmas (edit: in Tubridy and Pat K eras anyway) Sometimes the Friday falls on the 1st or 2nd of December though.

    2018 - 30 nov
    2017 - 1 dec
    2016 - 2 Dec.
    2015 - 27 nov.

100%. It's out of control commercialism, getting the kiddy pressure on the parents. This nonsense of boxes with new pajamas and sweets and whatever else for the kids to open on Toy Show night, and another one on Christmas Eve. The real Christmas trees are on sale in Lidl and another shop where I live. There's not a hope they'll still be alive in a month's time. Everyone has their own idea about when they start their Christmas but for me, I don't know why, it's always been around farmers day out and I'm not even a farmer.

There is no reason NONE WHATSOEVER to put a Christmas tree up in November. As for Tubridy's claims to be focusing on homeless kids, how can he justify starting the whole three ring circus in November. All it means for homeless kids is that it drags on even longer reminding them of what they don't have. Our tree won't be put up until at least the second weekend in December.
