C'est La Vie though I don't know it because I *hate* How Bizarre.

I obtain from the other match as I don't know either.

    Match 5
OMC, the lesser of two evils of two songs I don't like.

    Match 6
Sugarhill Gang. Not a hip hop fan at all, but that song is an absolute classic.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,026 ✭✭✭Declan A Walsh

    Match 6

    Sugarhill Gang - Rapper's Delight
This gets my vote. A classic and iconic rap song. This was reputedly the first ever rap song. It is also noteworthy for its sample of the bassline from Good Times by Chic.

OMC, it's now stuck in my brain and I hate you for it :p

Sugarhill, stone cold classic. I know the other one but could never have told you who it was by, so it obviously never impacted me that much

    R1 Match 5

OMC - How Bizarre Have it on a one hit wonders compilation and I don't press skip to next track...How Bizzare is that?

    R1 Match 6
Just played both, can't say either did much for me and I cut the rapper one with still 12 minutes to play

    Sugarhill Gang - Rapper's Delight 4 Vs 3 Olive - You're Not Alone

  • Registered Users Posts: 657 ✭✭✭irishejit

How Bizarre first of all....had never heard of the other tune, just had a listen and jesus christ that's terrible

And Rappers Delight for number two....Olive was a weak enough dance tune at the time, and just gets shat on by the fact that Rappers delight was the first rap song to hit the US Top 40....when you look at today's charts talk about a trailblazer

Feck it, chalk me down for Rappers Delight for the second match.

Reason: You're Not Alone is pretty god awful.

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,361 ✭✭✭✭Kolido

No opinion on the first one.

Black Velvet though is a cracking song, so voting for that in the second.

    Match 7
This one is really tough, because I really like them both for different reasons, but gonna give it to Turning Japanese because it's just a fun song.

    Match 8
It's yet another one that almost made my own nominations and an absolute belter of a tune so gotta be Black Velvet for this one. Hopefully it goes far into the competition and would be a worthy winner if it got that far.

The Vapors - Turning Japanese - I'm gonna vote this, I think I'm gonna vote this, I really think so. Why, because i want to.

    Match 7
Turning Japanese, the best song ever about **** (allegedly)

    Match 8
Black Velvet, that dollar song is so bloody irritating

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,794 ✭✭✭Squall Leonhart

Turning Japanese is before my time, though I know it and like it, kiss the rain is one of those crap songs but whirls me back to a point in time, Billie Myers it is.

Aloe Blacc beats black velvet anyday, though I dispute his labeling of one hit wonder, the Hey Brother track with Avicii was ridiculously popular, as was "I'm the man". I just love the sound of "dollar", so po'boy!

    1. Kiss The Rain, because I remember it being out at the time and because Turning Japanese is a bit annoying.

    2. Black Velvet, another absolute belter, can't believe I didn't think to include it myself (mainly had mid-late 90's on my mind though). Much better than that Need a Dollar song.

Turning Japanese because it's fun and I have bad memories of a friend of mine repetitively singing the other one.

I'll reluctantly go for Black Velvet but wouldn't ever decide to listen to it by choice again.

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,857 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

Wow, in both cases one name jumped out at me and I assumed that would be my pick, then the other song won within a few notes. I just couldn't place the names instantly, for me it's...

    Kiss The Rain
    and
    Black Velvet

Kiss The Rain because Turning Japanese gives me bad memories.

And Black Velvet cos who doesn't like it in that slow southern style ;)

Turning Japanese - great catchy new wave tune

    Match 8
Black Velvet - wonderful slow groove

Black Velvet , cos it'll bring you to your knees ...:p

The La's - I love Drinking in LA, I just love The La's more!

    The Proclaimers, obviously :p
Da da da (da da da)
Da da da (da da da)

Edit - Letter From America, Sunshine on Leith... I love The Proclaimers but I can't vote for them as a OHW. So I vote Cutting Crew

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,503 ✭✭✭✭Also Starring LeVar Burton

    Match 9
Drinking In LA is still one of my favourite 90s hits, so despite being up against tough competition, it's my choice for this round.

    Match 10
(I Just) Died In Your Arms Tonight was one of my nominations and an absolute classic, so easy vote for me here.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,149 ✭✭✭Tammy!

The La's. Don't know the other one and There She Goes is a perfect little one hit wonder.

I just died in your arms tonight is a proper power ballad and 500 Miles also gives me cringe shivers in my spine. I actually don't mind Letter to America though.

  • Registered Users, Subscribers Posts: 47,284 ✭✭✭✭Zaph

    Match 9

Drinking in LA. Tough call this time, but I love that song and it could have been one of my picks if I’d thought of it.

    Match 10

500 Miles. Probably overplayed at this stage, but who cares? One of the great singalong songs.

First time I'm torn. There she goes is my vote, timeless, first riff I learned on guitar too. But drinking in LA is a classic also, original sounding. (one of my choices was actually going to be "walk away" by Cast, founded by a member of The La's. If you don't know it, look it up, very Verve-esque, great great song)

I'll go proclaimers, I've had fun over the years with it. Cutting crew too... I dunno, over the top cheese
