Fritzbox's are mesh enabled. I have 4 of them providing a mesh in my house.

If you already have 4 of these , I understand , but surely you’ll get something better otherwise .... He after signing for 1Gb package, could 3-4 fritzboxes shift 400-600 mbit wirelessly around the house?

Marlow said he had no loss in speed around the house but I think his connection is maximum 70mb down.

Yea, bad example, at 70 mbits anything will do.That is not a challenge.

Is anyone using Vodafone and not having problems? Looking back at a few posts i'm a bit worried that it all goes to crap in the evenings. Eir has been stable but is just too expensive for me.

Worst case you could use your cooling off period with vodafone if you're not happy and move back to Eir again at new customer pricing??

I got them at a discount. However I know people who have bought Amazon warehouse Fritzbox 4040s and run them as mesh devices. Cost them about 80 Euro for two.
Two of mine are are cable connected and one is via WiFi. The LAN connected ones run as fast as the device can connect to them. The WiFi one tops out at around 180MBps even on a device connected to it with 5GHz. But I don't pay for a 1Gb connection. If I did, I'd be looking to use it with wired devices. Wireless devices are never going to be able to benefit from the full 1Gb.

They won't but 180mb is not great. I can't remember mine been that bad. For me it was the range was the issue but went down the ubiquiti route to solve it.

It's the location of it - two block walls and a metal stove in the way. Although I'm struggling to find a reason to require more than 180Mbps on a wireless device...

Ah, what do you get standing beside it?

No. It's connection to the mesh master is two block walls away. There's no cable run to the device and it was a dead zone for WiFi, so only solution is wireless. Power line adaptor connected to it gave only about 70Mbps.

There could be anything connected to it.
The point of these mesh networks is to get good speeds without running cables all over your house.
Someone could have their main work PC connected to one of these points.

From the research I did last year very few devices could provide reliable 500+ let alone 300+ speeds without spending hundreds or else wiring one AP as a halfway point in the mesh.

    Has this changed?

I went with a Fritz extender 1750e for €55 from Amazon warehouse and am very happy with +-200 for the price. Use an old archer c7 in WDS mode for similar results in the other end of the house (old house, stone walls, no chance of cabling).

I changed from 300 to 1000 two days ago and continue to pay the same price for the next 2 years, however I do notice unlike the 150 and 300 which are consistent on speedtests all the time 24/7, the 1000 is a bit more up and down, could be down to my network card or slight contention kicking in at times. I mostly get between 700 and 850, a few times it's been in the 600s and the odd time I hit 900.

    Speedtest just now:

    Speedtest late last night:

Generally Eir's network is really good and very consistent, latency is particularly good.

when did you contact them about switching your plan ? my contract is up on the 15th of august should i ring that day ? or before

Eir's website changed the pricing of the 1000 plan from 85 euros to 64 since July 1st so I thought to myself why am I continuing to pay 64 for an old profile that won't get upgraded while everyone else is getting boosted to 500 on other providers.

I sat on this for 3 days, I was considering changing providers anyway up to this point, but the lure of paying the same amount as always and going from 300/50 to 1000/100 is what made me decide to recontract with Eir, especially as their network is really reliable 24/7.

I ordered the 1000 plan through Eir's website on Saturday the 4th of July and the speed was upgraded by Tuesday the 7th of July. When I log into myeir it shows me that i'm on a 2 year contract with a saving of 21 euros per month for the two years.

Very happy with the 1000/100 plan particularly that upload. The only thing i'm not happy with is the old F2000 modem but I'm going to buy myself a fritzbox, it can only be better than the F2000.

Saving €21? or paying the same amount for better connection?

paying the exact same amount for a better connection. After 2 years the price increases to 85 but I will have to move by then if that 1000 still costs 85 by then.

I got a fibre line and ONT run into my house a couple of days ago by KN. The service provider is saying that they cannot install a modem yet as KN hasn't informed somebody that they've done the work. Is this normal, or common?

oh right thanks for the reply - whenever it goes off like that (which has been very little I must say for the year I have had FTTH off you for the last year) I always start the ol' paranoia that its something my end especially seeing as there was no LOS light and the other green lights were lit fine, and start shutting down and restarting laptop, restarting router and ONT but i wasnt getting Internet on my phone by wifi and the chromecast was saying no internet so then I knew it must have been some kind of outage.

I came across this thread hoping somebody can help me.
I'm currently having my house built hoping to be in October or worst case before Christmas.
I can def get fibre as i have a pole outside with one of them black boxes on it that has wire wrapped around it, the issue i have is that my Eircode is not recognised on any of the suppliers i try, eg Eir, Vodafone.

My future neighbours beside the new house have FTTH.
I'm currently in a rental and getting fibe broadband and want to stay with that provider as i'm happy with their service.

What do i need to do to get my eircode recognised on my provider's system?

    Thanks

There is supposed to be a mechanism to have newbuilds added and accommodated, but it's unknown what it is. Someone in another thread claims to have had success, you might to PM them for details on how they did it: https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=113898278&postcount=1603

Have you contacted your current provider to see what they can do for you, they will be able to talk to open-eir directly.

Was there any update or explanation from your provider about your gigabit issues?

Nothing yet. I sent a link to to the parts of the thread here where it was discussed but I don't think he's been online since (Martin)
