Almost every November shows cold at the end. In this case Id say Scotland will get a lot of snow and we will get the durge of sleet and wet hail and a nice 6c windchill. Not even a heavy frost as itl be too windy. Probably 6c day and 3c night.

I still foresee a very Mild December and a White Christmas. Itl get cold a couple of days so why not Christmas but the plus 120 FIs are showing mild air prevalent into early December

ECM also has the northerly, building a nice, strong mid Atlantic ridge. Now if we can get this to Greenland...

Yeah, will be posting this on the White Christmas thread but the CFS also shows a potent shot of cold in early December but then shows a gigantic high pressure system strecthing from North Africa, across to the Middle East up to Rockall and across to Scandanavia taking over from ca. 20 December with seriously mild charts for virtually 4 weeks thereafter.....

    Example, Christmas day....

In any snow event they show a band of milder air near the coast so they always show Cork City (and our other cities) as missing snow. In fact proximity to the coast was a prequisite for the streamers associated with the March 2018 event so it just shows there is little point in worrying about these low resolution snow maps (even if the snow they forecast generally ever came true in the first place!)

    Who done that map?

    Snow everywhere bar Longford.

They must have gone to Center Parks and hated it.

No, its just snow is an extra they charge for in Centreparc hence they left it off the map....

GFS is more serious in the mornings "No, none of that fun will be had here" ;)

The 6z GFS took us back to reality but now the 12z wants to get things going again, it is a bit early for the roller-coaster to be greased up!

On the model run, it looks like an area of high pressure building but nothing of note, wintry weather wise.

I missed all the fun and games from last nights very wintry run, of course that's now completely gone and were back to a relatively mild run.

Certainly not as cold as last nights run but not that mild either I would have thought. Still showing some cold weather at the end of the week and a bit milder after that if the ridge materializes. But as we have seen over the last few days huge chopping and changing going on.

Similar type run by the ECM 12Z as yesterdays showing some cold weather briefly around next weekend and the ridge building but not as well established on the latest run. Southerly winds look set to introduce milder air.

GFS similar but not showing as cold next weekend.

Interesting charts appearing again today... hopefully the models stick with this trend.

We don't quite manage to keep the Greeny high in situ on this run but the potential is there.

I'd like to see more solid mid Atlantic ridging a bit further north but the ECM is perfectly poised by 168.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 11,819 Mod ✭✭✭✭Meteorite58

The coldest chart yet to show up.....and from the ECM to boot!

    Will it be there tomorrow.

Main models showing a cold weekend into the early days of the following week. ECM leading the way as regards cold from about next Thurs to the following Weds. Seems to be a cross model trend now for the weekend being cold anyway. Thinking around next Sun /Mon /has the look of wintry precipitation as Blizzard7 said above.

I suppose dry and cold for a few days will be a welcome relief to many from the incessant rain. It looks like the weather might become more unsettled after that for a few days, then perhaps a second attempt at a mid atlantic ridge, which will probably topple over us as well. Lets hope the GFS is on to something with its strat' charts in order for us to get some proper snowy cold sometime in January. A potent cold spell during the heart of winter would be welcome by some of us.

Some nice cold charts still for the weekend . The ECM 12Z showing the ridge building quicker over Ireland than previous runs by Monday. Early days of next week could have some cold frosty nights and looks foggy. Seems like an age since we had a HP build over us.
