The vrt is on the vrt calculator but not vat and import duty. Its not really viable to bring a car from the UK anymore unless it’s from Northern Ireland as then you only pay vrt as long as it’s an original northern Irish car.

  • Registered Users Posts: 23,264 ✭✭✭✭mickdw

Take the uk price, convert to euro and add 33 percent for vat and duty.

Look up the vrt calculator for vrt and nox.

Nox is only a few euro on a 530e and the vrt is low also. Even so, it won't be viable unless you can get the car out of the UK without vat.

Dealers can do this and also specialist exporters will do it for you for a fee.

30k sterling becomes 35k euro. Add 33 percent becomes 46.5k, add say 3.5k vrt and the 30k sterling car is a 50k euro car plus transport and customs handler fees.

thanks for the responses here… all these new charges are crazy. I brought in a few cars myself 10 years ago and it was only vrt that had to be paid.

looks like I’ll be settling for a Irish reg car.. will probably be cheaper and much less hassle…. By the sounds of it!!

It’s good to have an idea of the uk prices as dealers can bring in the cars without the vat. Basically just the vrt, so you have an idea what they are bringing the cars in at when you see their markup.

How will knowing a dealers mark up help in any way?

Hi Guys, So two items for me this evening, Due to the mild weather my 530e charged to 32km range today at the office and mayde it 30km home 100% electric, bloody delighted as i have range to spare... Question though, I am on adaptive and Eco pro, i have noticed that the speed i can travel up to when on eco pro increases at certain parts of my journey.. the E speed blue ring on the speedo increases from 80km to 120 and then after a bit decreases again... i looked online and cannot find the reason so thought i may ask you fine experts.

Well in a VW, the lower the battery percentage gets the lower the top speed becomes, and the acceleration threshold for the engine to kick in becomes lower.

I’ve no idea why it would increase tho. Do the changes correlate with the speed limits or type of road you are driving on?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,702 ✭✭✭BrookieD

Thanks for the reply, the increase seems to only happen when i am entering the M50 from certain junctions. just as i enter the slipway the speed i can drive increase from the normal up to 140km then after about 1km it drops back to the normal speed range of 80/85km... I am sure there is a reason as to the why but i have no idea

If you set the car to auto-start in e-power mode only , the max "blue" speed is automatically set to ~120kms but in "auto" mode it's limited to 85/90kms.

Not definitively sure why the car flips between the two options sometimes in auto-mode but I suspect that it's down to torque loading/requirements on the vehicle.

I've noticed it do it on downhill sections of motorway where it will flip to 120 when in auto-mode, so if you are on a downhill on-ramp that might explain it.

Do you have navigation on? Doesn’t it use that to adapt the power for the location, extra power/speed on slip roads as you join a motorway etc.

As it happens i am using the navigation with Adaptive mode as i read online it uses the data to set the car up as needed based on conditions. Today it jump from 85km to 160km as a limit again downhill onto m50 however i was only going maybe 40 due to heavy traffic.

It probably has a max kW draw allowable in ev mode and then adjusts top speed allowable upwards until that max kW draw is reached.

So with a wind behind you on a downward slope, the ev speed limit could be a huge figure.

looking for some advice - I’ve my first Dublin-Galway return drive over the bank holiday in my 2022 touring and looking for how people normally approach a drive like this in their 530e?

    hybrid and forget about it?

    adaptive & navigation?

    battery save at 50%?

Sport until the first toll? 😂

im probably gonna go adaptive and navigation on the way their and then hybrid on the way back and see if there’s any difference.

only a granny charger out west but overnight is grand.

    Get in and drive.

Charge when you get home or if you have access to cheap charging at destination.

If you are in no hurry, Eco Pro and cruise control at whatever speed you are comfortable with.

If you are in a hurry, don’t worry about modes and just drive it.

Looks like the BMW Connected app was updated and has more stats to admire

Looking at getting a 2022/2023 530e touring. Joe Duffy have a good few for sale but none of them have adaptive cruise control. Can somebody point out how I would identify a 530e with adaptive cruise control as I don't want to waste my time ringing around or testing driving ones without. Surprised it's not standard on a 5-series BMW tbh as it was a small cost option on my 5 yr old VW Polo. It would really feel like a step back going back to regular cruise control.

From research it looks like it needs the "Driving Assistant Plus" package which seems to be a rare option (in Ireland at least). Was it an expensive option?

Edit - looks like it needs to be the 2nd or 3rd option in the below image

Yes, it's photo 2 or 3. The middle buttons for controlling distance between you and the car in front.

Rare enough option on the G30/G31, usually comes as part of the expensive driving assistant plus pack with blind spot monitoring, driver attention camera and 360 view cameras afaik. A UK import will be your best chance but many UK imports are fairly basic ex company cars too.

Mine has the ACC, blind spot monitoring but no 360 camera. I believe the camera and the HUD is the only 2 options I’m missing.

Can’t believe the original owner didn’t spec HUD at least considering they spent a fortune on B&W Sound system alone!

All the Joe Duffy ones are UK imports and don't have it. 😲 It's kind of a deal breaker for me tbh Having had adaptive cruise for the last 5 years, I couldn't imagine my next car not having it. In particular I wanted to move to a bigger car as I am doing more motorway miles now and wanted something big and comfy. Non-adaptive cruise control would actually make my drive more stressful. I nearly assumed a nearly new "executive" saloon would have it at this stage

yet a cheap Chinese Model 3 does as with many others, The legacies could learn a thing or 2 from the new kids on the block!

When I had my 530e I was shocked to know that the ability to fold down the back seats was a paid extra. Seriously. Not even a ski hatch!

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,380 ✭✭✭fletch

Yeah I am very tempted by a brand new BYD Seal AWD instead

  • Registered Users Posts: 143 ✭✭GPoint

Try a Japanese import maybe ?
Seen a few and most have ACC

Real pain that many cars are poverty spec

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,861 ✭✭✭User1998

A bog standard VW Golf from 2013 has adaptive cruise control. I hate how so many executive cars are missing it. Its always limited my options in what car I buy

Very good car. Take a test drive.

They do it to keep the base price down. Nuts really, but it's been going on for years.

    "But it's got no wheels"

    "Ah, now we talk extras"

    Probably 😂

All the Joe Duffy & BMW Ireland ones are pretty poor spec imo, you'd be better off looking at the better independents - Beshoffs, GT Motors etc. I ended up getting mine in Tralee to find the spec I was after.

As has been said above, this is lumped into an expensive pack which isn't that desirable so unless the original owner specced that feature on it's own it's a hard find.
